Yes ofc aoe healing will always have the biggest impact on mp. The issue is that TP restores itself too damn fast and runs out too quickly incase you need to spam healing.

If a equivalent to cure III costs, lets say, 500 tp, and a equivalent to medica costs 250 you can only cast it 2 cure III twice or cure III+2-3 medica.
Though on fights where you're not required to burst, you'll be able to dps and heal non stop due to how fast tp restores itself.

What if they made SAM an alternate choice to WAR as an off-tank and RDM an alternate choice to SCH and deleted Nocturnal Sect, altogether?

That way you'd get to choose between DRK and PLD for main tank, WAR and SAM for off tank, WHM and AST for main healer, and SCH and RDM for off healer?

Exactly, It can excel at non burst healing intensive fights and have skills like Invigorate to circumvent areas where high healing is needed, basically a divine seal but instead mass TP Gain or free TP cost. Combine it with Combos that create Auras or Debuffs on the enemy and it would be pretty fleshed out.

If you only need to do a Med2 + Med equiv and you're left with 250 TP, if you need more you can spend a CD to refresh your TP, or you if you dont you can let it regen naturally. Its the same as managing your CDs on any other healer, but in a different manner.

That's still too OP if we consider the other healers. If dancers were to only require TP all they have to do is to sit still in a corner for like 10 seconds, which isn't much considering the 2.5 gcd, to go back at full blast.
WHM can't do that, SCH can't do that and AST can't do that. If that ever happened their dps and healing would need to be sustained and not on burst which would make them a pretty weak healer mainly for savage where shit hits like a truck.

why not just do what should have been done with WAR and make SAM and RDM do double duty as either Tank/Healer respectively, as well as DPS? Treat it like SMN/SCH where they share the same 1-50 "class skills" and have 10 probably 15 by 4.0 "job skills" that vary based on which role you currently have equipped (determined by twin job crystals).

But then turn around and treat both sides of the Tank/DPS & Heal/DPS coin as being "SAM" or "RDM" by name. Hell, maybe even have their initial AF gear work for both roles so you automatically have two different roles geared for the price of one?

RDM deserves this most, and the game could use another caster, but that's not to say they couldn't do the same to SAM and give everyone the best of both worlds. they'd basically be making "4" jobs for the effort of at most probably 3 independent job concepts.

Because you run dangerously close into what make AST terrible in the beginning.

It's clear that if they were to ever make another job in the future that could "double up" on two big roles that it'll be subpar at both and they won't be taken in to any content because they'll be garbage until they fix it.

Technically speaking it SHOULD work, because it makes no difference whether or not you have a RDM healer/DPS, because it could only DO one role at a time.

Yet SE saw it as, "Well this class can do both, therefore it should be weaker," which makes no fucking sense, because it's not like AST could actually do both at the same time, which is what would've made it overpowered. It can only fulfill one role at a time.

But that still doesn't mean they wouldn't find another way to fuck it up. After the disaster that was AST in 3.0 - 3.2, I'd rather they not do that again.

Plus, the "job branching" idea gets dangerously close to that and you'd have the same problems with balancing that you have with SMN/SCH, where it becomes incredibly hard to fix because you have to worry too much about making one class too under/over powered.

In my honestly unpopular opinion, I think they should have just stuck with the seven jobs coming in from 1.x.

Sure that would make every party comp exactly the same with the exception of the fourth DPS slot, but balancing would be a hell of a lot easier, and each job could have a larger variety of skill sets.
