I know I've been posting this "meme" for the longest time now but, as some posters guessed, I'm a longtime poster on /xcg/, and I usually keep the cyclops pics to one post at most. After that, I usually mingle with the rest of the thread.

Referring to >>146261901 & >>146262234, I would love to learn how to mod, but, between juggling work, exercise, vidya (including xcom 2) and some other hobbies I have, modding isn't really something I have time to allocate to. Which is why I would love to commission a modder, provided I have a good lead

Way too addicted to Guild Wars 2 atm. Trying to kick the habit.

Trying to get into the Skyrim. The mods are sweeteass. But the oversimplification of the game is really losing on me - to put into perspective, Morrowind was a game I spent hours on. And it had a good amount of complexity, and mods that could change up gameplay.

As for all time favourite games.... well shit. I love a lotta games. Lets see what are the immediate ones I can think of:

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Fucking love this game. I think this is THE game that defines Firaxis. Sure, the Civilization games are great, but SMAC is what made their mark

Deus Ex: THE Deus Ex. Not that Adam Jensen weaboo stuff. Motherfucking JC Denton. Thats my shit right there. Fact: if you're not playing Xcom 2 with the JC Denton voicepack, youa re doing it wrong.

Half-Life: Whats said about Half-Life thats not been said before. The fact that people still play HL1, years after it came out, speaks about the longevity of the original game alone. Heck, I'm still playing Team Fortress Classic over TF2. And there's some pretty good mods - like The Hunger

Arcanum: One of the best RPGs I've played. Made by the same company who did

V:tm:B - Its like Dues Ex. But with vampires. Its a bity Valve fucked Troika over this game. But it was some sweet shit

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - if mdoern FPSs are too easy for you, STALKER really puts you on the edge. Its a pity not even FPSs are like STALKER

Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2: Aside from Morrowind, my other favorutie RPG. YTeah I also liked Icewind Dale 2 and Baldur's Gate, but NWN had more mods. And just felt more fun. Plus NWN 1 and 2 were sufficiently different from each other that both could be enjoyed for their respective merits

Skullgirls: Yeah I play fighters. Aside from other games. And I just like setting and characters of Skullgirls the most. I really hope, after Indivisible, they do a SKullgirls 2

King of Fighters 2002: The other fighter I play msot of the time when I'm relaxing. I'm waiting for Tekken 7, (which will be next year). Fucking love the KoF series, and KoF 2002 is pretty much the pinnacle. Also the easiest fighter to get into. Aside from Skullgirls, prettty much the best fighte ron Steam. Get it. GET IT NOW

Starcraft 2: Well, its the only major RTS atm. Actually its weak sauce, depsite its popularity much like

Disgaea: Yeah, I played it on PC. yeah, I was playing it while waiting for Xcom 2. Launch was buggy, but fixed the issues. One of my fave RPGs

I really like some of the races in Endless Legend. Especially the elves, which I think are some of the most original elf designs I've seen to date.

Endless Space was mediocre, but Endless Legend deserved its good reviews. Just wished I had more time to devote to it

On a side note - I think I'm the only guy whose not that hyped for Civ 6. Like, I get they have to make a new Civ once in a while. But Civ 6 is looking much the same like Civ 5. And sequelitis is gonna bog it down. Personally, I think Firaxis should take it easy with the sequels for Civ and try something else like buying the rights back to SMAC or doing an actual sequel to Xcom 1 that continues from that storyline

You're not the only one. NWN 2, much like NWN 1, is worth playing in full. And spending time kaing builds on. Hell, I think NWN 2 was the last game of tis kind - the last game to make use of 3.5, to try out complex character builds and prestige classes, the alst game where you could really make your own character, independent of mods. Everything these days is also streamlined and simplified, that a lot of character is gone from RPGs these days. Its sad.

Skyrim was sufficiently different from Oblivion, and Morrowind was sufficiently different from Oblivion, that each game could be played for their respective strengths. Hell, I still play Morowind once in a while, years after it first came out. Thats longevity.

Civilization 5 was sufficiently different from 4, graphic wise, and the same was 4 from 3. It really makes me sad that they're going into 6 so quickly. Hell, they should at the very least try something different. Like I dunno - maybe make a new 4x based off something else. Like Fantasy. I would play an actual Fantasy civ thats like Civilization and not Endless Legend. I know Firaxis can make it work.

Pro-tip: its best to wait for it when GOG has huge sales. Also, and for the record: Bethesda;s decision to re-release Fallout 1 & 2 on GOG, as well as releasing Morrowind on GOG, reaffirmed my faith in them. They're not perfect, but there are far worse publishers out there cough cough EA cough

Also, and the topic of recommended vidya.

If you like turn based strategy: Get Disgaea. Fucking get it. Disgaea makes me wish there was a turn-based squad based game like Xcom but in a fantasy setting. And I don't mean an RPG like Icewind Dale 2, I mean an actual, turn based, tactics game, but with fantasy elements.

But anyway. get Disgaea. Fucking get it. Its like watching elves play classic Xcom. And fi you can unlock the Earth levels, you can literally recreate the original Xcom squad, complete with guns.

Perfect Dark is an all-time favorite of mine. Great OST, cool cyberpunk theme, kickass collection of weapons with secondary modes, and missions that never get old.

One of the few games I've play where it feels like the developers thought of everything.

I don't know anything about the "menacing hull."
I can answer your question about mutant progroms though. The way the end of month report works in x-com (and pirateZ) is that it simply tallies your entire score into either a positive or negative number. The score is calculate primarily from doing missions. You get a positive score at the end of a mission and that contributes to the end score. Bad missions obviously contribute negative score.

Other things that generate negative score are when certain missions are successfully completed by another faction that directly hurts your operations in some way. A mission is considered successfully completed if their ship makes it to their destination without being shot down, and lands without being assaulted, or if its assaulted you fail and have to retreat.

Mutant Progroms are one of these missions. Ignoring them, or letting all the civilians getting killed in the battle generates the negative score.
Enemy hideouts/bases also generate a flat amount of negative score every month.
Thing is, if you run a bunch of successful missions and generates lots of positive score, that will end up overwhelming your negative giving you a good monthly report. Its still likely that the area where the Progrom happened will reduce funding, but as long as it doesn't happen multiple months in a row, its pretty negligible

tl;dr, no, as long as you have done well in other missions that month

I don't know, do you know what happens at ratman missions? Are they rampaging on people's territory or something?

Also, mutant progroms generate alot of negative score, I want to guess -500 to -700 (just a guesss) so you can't just do a few small successful missions and call it a day.

If i skip a mutant prorgom or have to bug out, I make sure to take on extra missions that month, more then I usually would.

Nope. If it feels too easy you'll just have to start up a new campaign. Just note that early game is usually the hardest part of an XCOM game, so if you are having flawless missions from the start, that doesn't mean things will get harder later.

How many times did you play through X1? I could see someone struggling if it was their first time through, but generally if your experienced, once you clear the early game your golden.

It might be a bit different on normal as well maybe, the difficulty gets inverted on higher difficulties. I only played normal once and that was a long time ago.

Huh, that is unusual, I'm kinda of used to just assuming people have played the campaign multiple times if they're here. If you ever go back make sure to give it a spin on Classic difficulty and give Long War a try as well.

Following up on the negative score generated from Mutant progroms, this pretty standard mission has 18 civilians. If they were all killed, that's -630 points. I think you also get a malus for not even trying/not showing up so I think -700 points if a pretty safe guess.

Negatives:

Afraid of Aliens - decreased aim against organic alien units

Afraid of Advent - like the above but against ADVENT

Afraid of Machines - like the above but against mechanical units

Hates Cities - randomized debuffs in City Center and Slums missions

Hates the Outdoors - randomized debuffs in Small Town, Wilderness, and Shanty missions

Hates FNGs - debuff to stats when in a squad with majority lower ranking soldiers

Rebellious Rookie - debuff to stats when on a squad with majority higher ranking soldiers

Fatalist - debuff to stats when injured

Gloryhog - debuff to stats in a squad with multiples of the same class

(EXTREME) Coward - will do a forced defensive move every time a pod reveals themselves (so this will probably proc only once if you have All Pods Active)

(EXTREME) Scared of Blood - gets a chance to faint for a turn (ie stunned for two AP) every time they get hurt

(EXTREME) Panicky Reloader - can waste an action point on reloading a weapon randomly, chance to do so scales to 50% per turn as a mission goes on

So I was thinking, wouldn't flying armor make the squadsight scouts in Long Dong really useful?

Perk wise they can get almost the exact same perks as the typical ITZ sniper, except they get a "free" perk at SGT between flush, battle scanners and aggression on top of the typical sniper kit. ITZ snipers might pick up lock and load instead of bring em on (I know I do), so scouts might actually outdamage them on single shots. Maybe a hit and run build might work out better, soar around the map picking up insanely long reach flanks for huge single damage shots every time, good synergy with the weapon at plasma tier.

They can move and shoot like a snapshot sniper, except marksman rifles don't have the penalty to aim that snapshot has, so you'll actually be free to move them a lot more.

This might even solve another conundrum I had. I really like gauss long rifles but the other tiers are better against things heat doesn't work on. Using gauss without lock and load is kind of hard, so the idea here would be to build marksman scouts for pulse and plasma tiers while keeping snipers around with gauss, which work almost just as well for most ITZ cleanup but also let you know you have something that can hit a disc, mectoid or sectopod with for huge amounts of damage.

Main con I see is items. You lose an item slot to a marksman scope and with actually having a reason to move in flight your fuel might be a concern, making you lose another item slot to pack extra.

Did anyone try something like this before? How does a scout compare to legit snipers?

Kinda. You lose points for killing them, but you lose less for capturing them alive, and then you can make them into slave or ransom them. I'd say ignore them until you get armor that can easily block their damage. Then you can just run in and stun everyone.

I have an all female squad that just came about from the RNG. I had a bunch of starting rookies as female, most of the available recruits were female, and then on a couple of missions my dudes got wounded, so I ended up with a female squad of two specialists, two infantry, two rangers, a grenadier, and a sharpshooter. i would say that rotating your roster is the smarter choice so that if one of them dies you wont be as screwed
i recommend bringing them to small ufos and also abductions if it wasn't a critical mission (like country at almost max panic or a really good reward) and bringing the best of the best for terror and council missions (late game council missions become kinda easy tho)

If i'm not mistaken what you're experiencing is the new openXCOM extended feature called statistical ammo conservation. I think the way it works is that each used magazine has a chance to be preserved at the end of a mission based on how many rounds remained.

You can turn this off in the options, and the game will return to the default openXCOM ammo behavior, which is to add all used magazines together at the end of a mission and then round down. This rewards using multiple copies of the same weapon in your crew since you'll only ever lose one incomplete magazine at most.

Or maybe you've run into a bug or something. Can't tell, but I'm pretty sure it's the ammo conservation.

I found it under the "Extended" options, but I really thought the original game rounded _up_ on your ammo, not down (i.e. if you hadn't used a full magazine, it would not disappear, and it wouldn't keep track of how many rounds you had left). Maybe I'm remembering wrong. Or maybe ammo was so plentiful in that game that I didn't notice.

Here it's kindof a pain in the ass because I can't buy ammo for the weapons I've looted on the black market, so losing one machine gun drum is a serious blow.

How much of a game changer is the alien kangz thing that came out some time ago? Do the new aliens make you rethink your strategies and are the new items interesting?

The alien rulers are tricky. On one hand you get gear that is absolutely broken good for fighting the rest of the aliens. But then you really need it to fight the rulers. Rulers can pretty much show up at any time and ruin your day. Items to consider against them are the frost grenade, also status effects like posion, acid, and fire. Also repeaters.

They react to every action you take, which is what makes them scary. This also means that tick damage applies everytime they react which dramatically increase their value. Repeaters are good for pretty obvious reasons, like executing a ruler with 50+ hp and armor who you normally have to fight at least twice to kill.

The concept is interesting, but it really throws the games balance even more out of whack. The armor you get from them is also extremely strong.

So yes, the new items are interesting, and just objectively strong. The armors make the lategame easier then it was before. Also you can decide when you want to do the mission that spawns rulers whenever you want. Personally I'm not sure what to make of it from a gameplay perspective, I look forward to some mods that tighten it up a bit from how it is now though.I would charactize as a challenge mode currently, something for some spice/variety, but it doesn't fit in with a vanilla experience seamlessly.

Flat damage reduction. Take a guy with 50 front armor and 30 back armor. Hit them for 40 damage in the front and they will take no damge. 40 damage in the back and they will take 10 damage to their health.

Overhaul mods are all a work in progress, though plenty of people have cobbled together a collection of mods and adjustments to make their own experience. The OP actually has a big list of mods that anons have used and that should be compatible together.
Final DLC hasn't even come out yet though, probably some time in July.

Yes, I'm just referring to the part immediately after you take down the broadcast tower. In fact, you'll notice the reports of ADVENT freaking and sometimes turning on each other or just surrendering in the dialogue of the final mission. It appears ADVENT hybrids are still sentient beings, so the fallout once they are no longer being controlled should be interesting. For reference, in X-COM Apocalypse, you can recruit sectoid-human hybrids as soldiers.

So ADVENT are just now out there by themselves, having never really thought for themselves before.

That's assuming they're not the victims of planned obsolescence. The Ethereals practice a horrifying amount of eugenics and population control measures on their subjects. It's clear they were never made to function without the psionic network constantly feeding them information. It wouldn't surprise me if the Ethereals engineered the ADVENT hybrids to die in a couple of years.

Certainly plausible, but when you consider the hybrids in apocalypse, (which Jake stated that he really enjoyed that game) I think them as faction in future games is much more likely.

Also, that seems more complex then necessary. ADVENT are still based off of humans, engineering the hybrids to the levels you describe doesn't actually benefit them in any manner. Just means they have to make more of them constantly, pretty inefficient, though I'm sure they have some sort of recycling process.

What happens to the alien's occupation forces is actually something I find pretty interesting. I think the some snippets from both games imply that they've been engineered to to be unable to reproduce naturally, but in the final scene there's advent troopers be mobbed after the final avatar is kill, implying everything advent hadn't just keeled over ded after you beat the game.

You just know there'd be at least some xenophiles insisting that the ayy's dindu nuffin and we should all hold hands and sing kumbaya.

I finished enforcer (six hours I'll never get back) and I'd like to get interceptor over with so I can enjoy the rest of UFO defense and then move on to TFTD or APOC.

Whenever I try to launch interceptor I get a "Unhandled Exception Process will continue and not exit" message.

Saying that a mod that adds a slightly better T2 pistol (say, +1 to the damage spread and -10% aim) is cheating is being stupid, whereas adding a T1 rifle with 9-11 damage and +35% aim is pretty clear.

If the mod's point is obviously to simply be flat better than what the game was designed around or if it is about completely negating core parts of the experience, you're cheating. That's fine, if you're into that, but at least have the honor to call it what it is. Cosmetics and sidegrades and *new* content aren't cheating, they're true modifications.

I have had this happen. Turn on debug mode with ctrl+D and see what's going on during the hidden movement. For me it was a dude walking to a position that made openxcom rapidly switch between two x coordinates, forever. I cheated and killed the guy, and then didn't run into the hidden movement bug again.

You have two options: ctrl+K kills all aliens but doesn't recover any loot, or use the debug inventory cheat - every time you open the inventory in debug mode, it resets your time units. Careful though as it does decrease their morale like a turn has passed every time you do so.

If you just want to play og x-com then the mileston is fine. Its also easy to download multiple versions of openxcom on your system. I currently have three seperate versions.

The mod pages for overhauls will usually tell you what version you need.

I tried that mod, and while at first, it seemed like it was exactly what I asked for, it doesn't work right. The problem is it doesn't really work. It just makes duplicates of every torso version in the game, modded or otherwise, so that where before I had maybe 30 or so torso selections, counting the vanilla and DLC ones, with the Armor variety mod, I have to slog my way through over 400, most of which are duplicates.

It's really annoying.

By the way for people who play PirateZ here when you get to the Super Shotgun, build it, use it, cherish it. It's as good as the name suggests. The accurate range is ridiculous, and the up close damage is pretty fantastic. Also has 3-round burst.

So Armor Variety makes it so you can wear any armor piece at any tier. It does not duplicate any armor pieces. The only thing you should see multiple copies of is civilian outfits since it picks up the outfits that civilians can wear and that hidden faceless can wear.

The problem is that most mods create a copy at every tier level. So the only way to prevent 7 copies of a torso from showing up is to go into the config files for that mod and disable every version aside from one (I usually choose Kevlar). This is actually what I do and it is a huge pain since any time you verify your cache it will revert all the mods back to normal.

Made it shorter, might make it a bit thinner too but i do want it to be pretty big, most people will be using it with big blocky armor anyway, so it should look more fitting then, probably.

The chain thingy physics asset thing still eludes me, maybe it just isn't possible to have something like that on a weapon because maybe the physics asset is only used when a soldier dies and he drops his spaghetti, i don't really know. If that is the case i'll just remove it though.

This was a one turn Watchtower mission. I set up my best shooters on the ramp and hit end turn. 4 enemies sniped during the enemy turn, no casualties.

I can't even imagine that there's anything that could be in them that could really challenge you because there's usually so much cover and long sightlines, unless they're populated by fuckers with really good weapons and armour lategame that you can't even really kill easily

Yes. Though techinically is going to be awhile until you get a working mind probe, but yeah, mostly not worth it. You could also look up stats on the PirateZ UFOpedia if you wanted too, though in some ways that kinda defeats the fun of trial and error the mod is definitely built-around.

Not that anon, but I'm a bit flustered that his attrition mode doesn't have a "begin once concealment has been lost" option. There are several people that asked for that in the steam workshop, but their comments were ignored.

How much progress have you made?

Guerilla Training School, then AWC. Then power and radio comms probably. For strategic/mission rewards try to focus on engineers, and then intel. You need more engineers for you base excavation which gives you building space, but also the supplies you were skipping out on.

In general the first item you want to build is a flashbang. Early game grenadiers can help carry your squad, but they aren't as strong later anymore, so don't too heavily. Some people don't use entire classes, but I would say a balanced squad with at least one of each squad is the best place to start.

The only thing that can end your campaign stategically is obviously the doom ticker, so once it gets close, you have to drop everything and just work towards getting to a facilty. You have to always be working towards the next facility.

Also, putting off story missions/objectives as long as possible is a generally good idea.
