guys, what does the verb "cheese" or "cheesing" actually mean?

In all my time in this general i've seen it used in several ways and I just now realized how weird it is.

the most common use of it seems to be "doing something cheaply" i.e.: if you fight the destroyer by building a sky platform where he can't get to you and just shoot down on him that's considered to be "cheesing" the destroyer fight.

any thoughts?

What is the most efficient base you've ever seen? I mean, one that had organized spots for all necessary storage, a garden, spots for every npc, space for every crafting station, etc, all in a layout that was as easy to navigate as possible.

I've always thought an ideal Hunger system for a game like that would be to have Hunger be something you can't go over, but food is REALLY good.

Like, food that fills 50% of your Hunger can only be eaten when you're hunger bar drops to 50%, but the effects of it are really fucking good. So food becomes less about buff stacking and more about choosing which bonuses you want, and higher tier less filling for the bonuses it grants. Bonuses would be fairly long lasting so that the buff from each food item can be almost permanently sustained.

Detrimental effects from low hunger are negligible in this system, if any. Use some sort of "space serum" excuse for that which can sustain but not satiate.

What does terraria general think of Otherworld?
While I don't particularly like the direction of the art syle, that's the easiest modded part of the game and I'm pretty excited to see more open ended RPG elements implemented.
particularly, the emphasis on tower defense style gameplay feels like a perfect fit. I was always kind of disappointed that goblin/pirate invasions were all terraria had, I love that kind of gameplay especially in a game that lets you build as much as terraria does.

Can you kite bosses other than destroyer with teleporters? Like fight at the end of the map then teleport to the healer to get your hp back then go back into the fight?

I haven't extensively tested it or anything, but I think it works differently for every boss because that's happened to me with the mirror as well.
Again though, I've done that on moon lord and he just seems to follow you back home.
I'm starting to think moon lord is an exception, but I can't be sure because he's the only boss that I've ever bothered to develop a special strategy for or anything.

Hey tg, this is probably old news to you guys but I've been replaying Terraria for the first time since 1.3 and it struck me how many awful design choices there are.

The early game is extremely painful to play until you get mobility enhancers, grapple and a double jump particularly.

There's so many different kinds of crap you're constantly fighting to keep your inventory uncluttered.

But inventory size is never a restricting factor when it comes to preparing for a boss fight or gathering resources.

The UI is absolutely terrible

The player has no kind of feedback for how much damage they give or take bar looking at the numbers.

There are so many creatures with hitboxes smaller than their art

Why are there pirates? Goblins? Aliens? Zero fucks given out creating a coherent setting

Completely disagree. I LOVE early game, far more than mid-late game. It makes finding stuff like enough gems for hooks and clouds in bottles that more rewarding.

This one i actually somewhat agree with. It's one of the many reasons i prefer early-mode. Sure, the whole game is over the top, but hardmode takes it a step too far for my taste. But going as far as to call it an awful design choice? Nah

I sacrifice all my accessory slots for maximum dps. Celestial shell, celestial stone, sun stone/moon stone are always my top 3 accessories, then destroyer emblem, class emblem, then a class damage accessory such as mechanical glove/yoyo box/sniper scope/celestial magnet/magic quiver. Sometimes I spend a slot on worm scarf.

Yeah. It hurts to say this after all the bullshit they've done, but it looks like they're finally trying to make it a good game. It's not going to be better than Terraria, but it might actually be worth playing. They're redoing quests, making planets where you can mine fuel from (instead of farming enemies), adding actual enemies instead of those shitty rainbow cartoon animals, and making the underground a bit more tolerable.

I just hope they add a better way to craft building materials than deconstructing pre-generated buildings. That and a way to actually customize your ship's layout would be tremendous improvements.

Why is the Brain of Confusion so fucking awful? How could any sane human being think that "sometimes when an enemy hits you, they have a chance of moving in a random direction, if they don't already resist confusion" is anywhere near as useful as "reduce ALL damage by 17%"? The Brain of Cthulhu isn't even any easier than the Eater of Worlds, I might even say it's more difficult.

They desperately need to work on the expert mode exclusive items to make them actually worth using.

Except the Worm Scarf is incredibly useful throughout the entire game, whereas the Brain of Confusion is literally worthless. Cursed Fire sucks, but it's not the worst thing in the world. You can still easily use it instead of using ichor, whereas not using the Worm Scarf makes expert mode way harder.

Have two "dye" slots per equipment. Strip all the strange plant dyes of their colors, reducing them to just a special effect such as metallic, particles or whatever. Ichor gives you +15 damage per hit (+10 in normal mode) while Cursed Flame is just pure ass, fucking Venom does the same Damage Over Time as Cursed Inferno and Venom Bullets do more damage and they have higher velocity and knockback.

Not very useful, but the King Slime is easy, so it's balanced in that way. King Slime is mostly about getting the slimy saddle anyways.
>Shield of Cthulhu
EXTREMELY good item. Probably too good, considering how easy the Eye of Cthulhu is? It's useful throughout the game all the way up until you can craft the Master Ninja Gear.

Obviously the worst accessory in the game and needs to be changed. Maybe if it confused all enemies within a 10 block radius of the player?
>Worm Scarf
Again, WAY too good considering how easy the boss is. Maybe change the accessory and give the "17% damage resistance" attribute to a harder boss later in the game.
>Skeleton Glove
Really shitty. It's just barely as good as the weapons you already find inside the dungeon. It should be an accessory.

Fair accessory, though it's not interesting in the slightest.

This is bullshit. Every other boss gets a unique drop, but the robots only drop 1/3rd of an item that's just a faster minecart.

How exactly do mobs scale to your gear in expert hardmode? I don't know about you but using advanced hardmode gear sure feels like I'm wrecking everyone, I'm calling meme on this one.

Idea: The brain no longer confuses enemies when you get hit. Instead, your attacks now apply statuses randomly like the Creepers do. In addition, you generate a cloud of creepers which increase your damage by some arbitrary amount, but fly to your target and are consumed when you attack.
