I think it's meant to be similar to real-life histories/religion. Over the centuries events are obscured and mixed up, with things happening centuries apart being blurred together and legends/myths taken as history over time, and vise versa. And also historical figures ending up being deified and seen as larger than life. So the truth of it may never be known.
But in terms of those questions, I have no fucking clue. Hopefully when/ifthey make DA4, we'll find out.
