ESA is really pushing the envelope now as to how innovative speedrun marathons are organised and ran. Here's how a pointer scan result works: It goes to the first location in memory, interprets as a pointer and jumps, jumps by the first offset, interprets as a pointer and jumps...

Because of the way data structures turn into assembly this is the kind of shit that is in a legitimate program. A lot of this is also garbage.

To get rid of the garbage restart the game, find your address in cheat engine again, reload your old pointer scan and go to rescan with the new address. The new scan will have only the commonalities between the two boots of the game. Repeat, restart your computer, open random shit, ship your pointers to a friend, everything you can do to pare down freak chance into actual pointer paths. Then take one of those paths and shit it into an ASL file.

Forgot to mention this is unnecessary unless your address is green in the cheat engine scan results, which means it's static and will be the same every boot. A pointer path made with this method is essentially a static way to arrive at the information you want every time, even though that information moves around like a scared koala.

There is no way to make an ASL script read from a file, is there?
Right now I'm thinking of writing an Autosplitter as a LUA script that writes the current time and when to split in a file and making a simple C program that reads these values so that I can then locate the values in that program's memory lol.

No, what I mean is I use Bizhawk's integrated LUA scripting, which can just read the game's memory adresses directly, and to write the info I need to a file on my PC and another independent program reads from that file and loads it into its memory and then I read from that program with Livesplit, because I'm too dumb to work with Bizhawk's adresses directly.
