The Game.Com was a gift from a relative that didn't really keep up with my parents or know much about electronics, probably an aunt or uncle. Well, there is SOME canon. Sonic 1, 2, 3&K and 4 all take place one after the other and introduce supporting characters that are still in the series. Sonic CD takes place either before Sonic 1 or after Sonic 3&K and introduces Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. Sonic Adventure introduces lore for the echidnas, Sonic Adventure 2 introduces Shadow, Heroes brings him back, and Shadow develops his character. The Sonic Rivals games introduce Eggman Nega and Silver (06 never happened) and Rush introduces Blaze. Unleashed is canon, because it's acknowledged by Generations as one of Eggman's defeats.

Sonic Advance can't take place after the Adventure games because the moon is still intact. How come Sonic Battle isn't listed if Sonic Advance 3 is? Why can't we just talk about all things Sonic that are at least licensed by SEGA which are the games, comics, and show? /sthg/ is like the only place on 4chan we can talk about this blue rat, his friends, and all the media he appears in without getting shat on by half the site. Well, I'm pretty sure I shouldn't bother writing up anything because I'm sure you'll deny it all anyway, but for the sake of posterity I'll throw something together. Maybe someone else will keep arguing with you, but after this I'll have made the only points I'm going to bother because in the end it's Sonic the Hedgehog and it's not the end of the world if some guy on the internet disagrees with me.

As for your one requirement, good luck finding anything that really fits your definition of a canon then, especially in video games. If you need a sequel to be referenced in a previous game for it to count, most iterations of anything are going to be thrown out when it comes to media franchises built by teams of multiple that change over many years.

Here are some examples of connections between Sonic games.

Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles are connected in telling the story of Eggman trying to build the Death Egg. This is shown both by the presence of the Death Egg on Angel Island, the animation of it landing on the island on Sonic & Knuckles title screen, and it's written in the manual.

Sonic CD is connected to Sonic Adventure via Amy's story having a flashback to Sonic saving her from Metal Sonic.

SA2 is connected to SA1 because of the Tails thing I already mentioned, as well as references to the Master Emerald shrine's appearance and Knuckles using the chant he learned from Tikal to use the Master Emerald to control the Chaos Emeralds.

SA2 through Shadow form a character arc of Shadow trying to get revenge, realizing his veangance plot was wrong, dying, getting amnesia, trying to find out his past and ultimately deciding it's his future actions that define him. I shouldn't have to lay out every connection between these games to get that point across.

Multiple game manuals and instances of character dialogue mention Sonic stopping Eggman's plans before. Common sense says the logical explanation is that previous games are instances of this happening.

Too bad he didn't show up in Unleashed, despite G.U.N. likely being involved in managing the crisis. Although people didn't seem to be freaking out too much about the world getting cracked open, but I guess when you've lived in Sonic's World™ long enough you get used to these kinds of things. And then after that we got Pontaff.

Actually, of any character, Knuckles really should've been involved in Unleashed's plot. It was the one game in a long time where his presence would have actually made sense and he could've contributed with his knowledge of ancient ruins and such. His absence is only made worse by the fact that before they came up with the Werehog they were initially planning on have Knux be playable.

So uhh which eggman battle themes were the best between lost world's, Generation's egg dragoon and color's nega wisp machine? They seem to be making Eggman a bit more of a threat in the recent games, He actually took out a gun and shot Sonic and Tails down in the lost world opening, then there's his fight with Sonic at the beginning of unleashed. Lost World was a weird game, Sonic killed the Deadly Six really easily even when they gained up on him in the finale he killed all of them and was barely tired or even injured and they were juiced up on his world's energy when they fought him,too.

Then there was Tails being robotized in one scene and immediately as soon as the camera was taken off him he was back to normal and barely any time passed between that scene. Also, Knuckles and Amy dying played seriously then they're fine without any mention. Then there's Eggman's implied death if he didn't have his jetpack and almost immediately after that scene Sonic sends him plummiting back to earth without the jetback and he's just fine cartoonishly buried in the ground as the stupid bots try to dig him out. I hope they don't write like that ever again for a sonic game. It was messy and stupid and schizo with it's mood.
