Alright, can we put the memes aside for a moment and all agree that, for what it set out to do, HoI4 is a success? It gave us a WWII grandstrat free from all the archaic bullshit of Darkest Hour, and also much easier to get into then HoI3. Can anyone here honestly say they enjoy wasting an hour to fix their OoB every time they start a game of HoI3? Not to mention that, rather than needing to tediously micromanage industry like in other HoI games, HoI4's industry is both streamlined as well as more intuitive than the previous games. Yeah, it's true that HoI4 leads to more "ahistorical" scenarios, but isn't that the point? Why even bother playing the game if the outcome is predetermined form the start? Moreover, from a pure gameplay perspective, giving the player more options, whether they be historical or ahistorical, is a total success. Sure, Mosley ruling Britain never could have happened in reality, but it's fun to have the ability to easily do so in video game form.

Overall, I feel that HoI4 is getting a lot of undeserved hate simply because it isn't a total copy of HoI3 with slightly better graphics. Of COURSE the game is different - HoI3 already exists, there would be no point to making the same game again! HoI4 may be different, but that's by design, not by some unforeseen flaw, and it should be celebrated for the changes it made, not hated on.

Started as Zhang Liao. Helped my lord Lu Bu conquer Cao Cao, Liu Bei and Yuan Shao's territories, becoming viceroy over all of Yuan Shao (Yuan Shang at that point) and Liu Bei's former land. I finally conquered the last of Yuan Shang's territory when Lu Bu died all of a sudden. Liu Bao, my former vassal, was named the heir and I was 'promoted' (as the game put it) to a landless vassal once again. I can either accept Liu Bao as heir or pack up my bags and wander the land.

I'm feeling rather lost right now. I thought I'd have the ability to refuse the successor as heir and say, turn my armies on him or something, I guess it's because his new capital is my former capital that I can't do that.

I was fighting Germany and he was pushing me so hard I had some battles which literally lasted 2 years. I barely had the troops to resist and I had been preparing since 36.

Another time I was trying to invade UK as Italy and I set up my fleet and airplanes in the English channel to begin my invasion. Not only did he send his fleet which had been nowhere to be found but he sent thousands of bombers to resist the invasion. I got brutalized.

That kind of reaction from the AI is exactly what I want to see. It was so overkill that I lost nearly half of my ships, hundreds of planes and all invading troops.

The AI is all kinds of broken, but it's not fundamentally broken I think. It does good things, just not enough of them yet. The air force deployment by AI is questionable too sometimes.

And their build order is whack.

So, in the last thread or two, I mentioned making a minor modification to CK2+ so that Nestorians had three extra holy sites in southern India, because of the Saint Thomas Christians. I then made a custom ruler in Maldives.

Haven't done much for about a century, just biding my time while I improve my little island's holdings, build a Temple and attempt to convert the heathens to Nestorianism.

But while I've been doing that, the rest of the world's gone mad. The Byzantine empire is almost full-Iconoclast, a Tribal Miaphysite ruler has taken over half of Egypt, including Alexandria, the Karen dynasty (as Zoroastrians) have conquered Persia, and Armenian Apostolic Christians are gaining serious ground.
