I think I jumped up and did a fistpump when I saw the Champion thing show up. This was disgustingly low-synergy apart from a lucky Lightning BSB I drew, not to mention Penelo's War Dance got in the way because it overwrites the RW Shout.

Needless to say, it's pretty clear they balance this shit around whoever blows hot loads of cash for BSBs just like they did with Bahamut SIN.

I mean, you needed to beat eight Shadow Creepers and lo and behold, Cloud's BSB has Whirl Slash and Fenrir Overdrive goes to town on them. Caius is weak to getting stunned and look what Lightning's BSB has.

Speaking of X, a question for experts, you know since Lord Zaeon (or somesuch) had passed away as a Fayth and couldn't be used as a Final Summoning, that means the Fayth can die/go inert. So why is it that no one ever hacked away at the Wall of the Fayth? You can clearly see that they're summoning something gigantic and people knew at the time what summoning was. Or is it that the colorful crusting they have works as a force field, so that wouldn't work and they have to expend themselves on their own?

Well yes, but that was just the grounding of the question. I was curious if there's a known stated reason in Ultimania or an interview (or maybe even in the game) on why swinging a pickaxe at the Wall wouldn't work. Would it shatter into a bunch of smaller rocks and the Fayth would just continue doing what they're doing? Would it reform? Or is it just plain impervious?

And yes I know it would just stop Dream Zanarkand, but it would be pretty easy to mix it up for Sin beforehand, since the Spirans don't know about it. So it baffles me why the Wall still exists, even if it's a moot point.

I had a theory regarding that.

Final Fantasy characters(at least the Nomura-designed ones) and anime characters in general tend to feature unrealistically slim proportions to make up for the ridiculously elaborate/layered clothing. Seeing as you can dress up Lightning in LR they probably figured the "safest" thing to do would be to make her extra skinny so as to provide an extra margin for the builkier/more extravagant outfits. The problem is that they somehow forgot about this and decided to create a bunch of skimpy outfits instead that make her look anorexic. If it'd been a higher budget game they probably would've had multiple models depending on the outfit, but as we all know LR wasn't exactly tops in production values.

The idea is that Sin destroys anything that gets close to Dream Zanarkand, and the church is there to warn people not to do that, and say Bobby the Space Whale is a holy creature and you're not allowed to make him mad.

Sin shouldn't have done ANYTHING beyond that. Be a nice, big, peaceful space whale lounging on beaches, and only get assmad when people go toward Dream Zanarkand.

Yu Yevon would never have been fucked out of ANY of his Sin shells in the first place cause there would have been no reason to attack him and his little summoning place was gonna be protected forever.

Another thing you don't seem to be aware of is that the world was literally reset to the stone age after the machina war. There were only a handful of airships left when Sin appeared and there weren't enough people with the wherewithal to pilot any of them.

Provably they will leave actual Zanarkand completely alone if the church tells them too, though, despite all that technology there to study. They just do. That is how that world works, and it demonstrates that if the church tells them No, they will abide by it.

Second, Sin will still assfuck anything and anyone that comes close to Dream Zanarkand.... but nothing else.

You go there, you die. You don't fuck with it? Have a happy life. So they can decide to question it if they have a fucking deathwish.

And I'm talking about this in the long term. Sin stops attacking places that develop technology (which he already didn't do with Bevelle, anyway) and they get to develop as much as they want. They're just stringently kept from fucking around with DZ, and Yu is all happy and summoning as much as he likes in his little corner.

But as has been already said, he is basically mindless instinct and makes a shitty villain for his lack of agency.

I suppose you have a point, but I still think that eventually peoples' curiosity would get the better of them and they'd try to figure out a way to get past Sin, either directly or through satellites or some shit. The truth behind DZ would probably be found out sooner or later.

More importantly, Sin is perfectly fine as a villain if you accept the nature of the story it's in. Sin is not supposed to be like Sephiroth, a guy you hate because of who he chooses to be, who he is as a person. Sin is more of a force of nature, a symbol for group mentality. The only real problem FFX has is that it's unapologetically Japanese. In Japan, the mainstream culture is basically a less extreme version of Yevon -- very hierarchical, extremely respectful of tradition/elders, overwhelmingly collectivist rather than individualist, etc. It works much better as a story when coming from a similar mindset. If you're already "redpilled" on the dangers of having an overly duty-bound, self-sacrificing culture then FFX's story and themes come across as much less poignant and much more preachy/melodramatic.

Executive summary:

The world of FFXIII is essentially a "timeloop." Civilization advances to a certain level, people start to build machines to make their lives more convenient, and eventually they all turn into fat slob automatons. The machines decide that the only way to preserve humanity is to destroy the world so that the survivors are forced to fend for themselves and become smart/capable again. By the events of the game this cycle has repeated itself twelve times. Lightning and co. are like fuck that and manage to stop the world from being destroyed the thirteenth time, but it's all really contrived and hamfisted so honestly I wouldn't recommend playing it.

Or in other words, its Mass Effect 3 if you've played that game.
