I don't know, it felt pretty genuine to me because he comes across as kind of lonely, and he even gives you that phone in Trespasser. But then again, he gets seduced by fucking Iron Bull so maybe Dorian just doesn't care who it is he's talking to as long as he gets attention.
I suppose the character might work as he's written if you romance him or use him extensively because the approval gains are basically praising him all the time, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth because I always used Solas as my mage didn't really interact with Dorian outside of Skyhold

The new expansion was pretty promising in terms of story but they really fucked it up by making you wait months in between each episode which was only like an hour long, if that. Plus forcing some cuck black guy onto your team you can't get rid of. Also their huge focus on story in the new expansion has made them completely abandon PvE and PvP development, but who cares since the PvE was always shit and they gave up on the PvP years ago anyways.
