Go back and look at the intro of Dark Souls 1. You see the Gwyn, Nito, The Pygmy and the Witch of Izalith as hollows. None of them were human but all were hollow, before getting Souls. The Dark Soul just so happens to be a different type of soul than the Lord Soul, which is the only difference between Human and God. The Abyss is corrupted Humanity, whereas Demons are the result of Corrupted Fire born from a Lord Soul, because they are different things.

Lighter, lower stamina consumption, lower str requirements and a much better WA.

Also the DSGA is overpowered relative to most other GAxes. It has among the highest base physical damages of the greataxes while also having almost 200 lightning damage. I imagine they just didn't put a terribly large amount of effort into balancing it since greataxes are gimmicky shit only used for hornet riposting anyways.

That Greatsword WA is seriously the best thing about the weapon class

It's one of the few hyperarmor attacks in the game that doesn't compromise your thrust defense. You trade into a UGS, that lovely 40% damage reduction reduces their damage to that of a straightsword, and you hit with their hyperarmor for a 900 damage leo counter.

It's honestly kind of silly when you can just WA on reaction to any ultraweapon attack to blow them up. Straightswords can do the same thing as well, since their WA has the same hyperarmor and damage reduction. It will always out-trade a charged R2 or WA of an ultra weapon.
