Axes are fine, the only real thing that hurt them was using actual % instead of true hit. They royally fuck over Ninjas since due to their mt and strength of axe users, most of them anyways, Ninjas are often one rounded by axes.

Swords need the Blade variant or something else to give them the edge.

Hell FE6 had good units like Perceval who could use them too, but there it didn't change the fact that they're statistically garbage; terrible accuracy and the additional Mt ended up not even really mattering. Like seriously, in FE6 an Armorslayer would ALWAYS have more accuracy than a Hammer, even on an opponent with Lances, because Hammers were just that terrible.
