Stage1 is installed into a purposefully corrupted FIRM0. We only have 6000-8000 bytes for it depending on the exact setup, with a9lh2 having more. Stage2 is installed onto your NAND in a normally-unused location. It can be up to 52KB or so, with the max size depending on the stage1 in use.

Stage1 is designed to do nothing other than loading stage2 from its fixed location in the NAND, which makes it really quite small (it's only about 1500 bytes). Stage2 is designed to load the real payload from the SD card, which involves being able to read FAT32 and all that shit, making it a lot more complex (and using up more space).

Stage2 can also handle screen init, but Luma3DS/BootCtr9/CtrBootManager9 can do it too, so using noscreeninit isn't a big loss.

Either way, no matter what you do, stage1 needs to be built against the FIRM & corrupted key that you use (SafeA9LHInstaller 1.0/2.0 differ in this) while stage1 needs to read stage2 from the same spot/with the same size (don't mix stage1 & stage2 payloads).

I have a question. I downgraded my DS to 9.2 a few months ago but I don't even remember what I should do to open the homebrew launcher. Is there an easy way for me to "restart" from the beggining? I'm assuming this is linked to the black screen issue at the end of step 4, where the solution is to insert the SD card after booting into the home menu. It should be correct, worst case scenario you'd have to restore a NAND backup. You're not bricking because of a bad inject. Remember that you need to inject one of the FBI inject files, not the original hs.app.

Alright mates, I need some help if you'd be so kind. I'm on 9.7 and have been following Plailect's guide. These are the steps I've taken so far

1. put the hb starter pack on the sd.
2. used browserhax to launch the homebrew launcher

The next step is to "Open the menuhax_manager application"

However, when I try to open "menuhax_manager v2.2" I get pic related. When I press start I'm booted back to the homebrew launcher screen. Any ideas? Has this been seen before?
