bumping the thread with some engineering 101

Emitters do not work if there is no power in the grid, APCS do not put power into the grid, they take power from the grid and use it to power lights atmos and machines but not emitters

At round start engineering has power thanks to this specific SMES, once that SMES runs out, emitters will not work, at which point you must wrench down the pacman to a wire knot in order to get the SMES to fire

Alternatively, you can wire a solar, and wire engineering to the grid (fastest way is to lay wires through the maintenance door next to the burn chamber), and the solars can power the emitters

important note, because the engineering APC is only powered by engines, if you only wire the solars, engineering will eventually run out of power if you do not wire it to the grid

A 7 dev lets you annihilate comms and the spare boards. even the old 3 devs were perfectly fine for either killing sec on the move or denying them their armory. 7 devs are just that much more effective. every second or so, that mob will slowly heal a tiny bit of all damage types. It's like having tricord in your system, except it also heals brain and clone damage.
however it doesn't heal internal organs (you'll see why later)
when emagged, the gun will do the opposite, and deal you a bit of all damage types at once, every second.
If the target's heart has an uber device, he will be healed regardless of whether the medigun is emagged or not, and at double rate.
If you heal someone with a uber heart, the medigun will get 1% ubercharge per tick.
At 100% click the gun to trigger the ubercharge.
You can uber mobs with no uber heart, but it'll only last 2-3 seconds, and damage their heart.
Regular medigun ubercharge lasts 5-6 seconds, during which you don't take damage (you don't heal faster while in ubercharge though)
Emagged medigun ubercharge rolls a dice:
on a mob without uber heart, you have 80% chance to get a 15 second uber, but you'll gib at the end.
or a 20% to get a 8-9 seconds uber, but then your heart will take a lot of damage (akin to getting defib'd)
on a mob with a uber heart, the probabilities are exchanged, and you don't take heart damage.
you cannot click yourself to heal yourself.

Literally all combat is who stuns who first. Assistants armed with a stun prod and cable cuffs are more intimidating than engineers in a RIGsuit with flamethrowers. He'll just stun you, cuff you, strip you and set you on fire with your own flamethrower.

The only way they can "balance" this is by giving the traitors so many weapons that you'd think the game is Counter Strike in Space. Nuke Ops in particular get so much heavy weaponry that can kill you so fast while also stunning you with the first shot that stealth is simply not a viable option anymore, seeing how they're balanced around it. And yet they are still so unrobust, their statistics report that they still lose most engagements anyway.
This is what you get when your combat system is just "who can permanently disable the other guy with the least amount of clicks".

The only server I've ever seen trying something different was Hatestation, that heavily reduced the duration of stuns for almost everything except the Stunbaton (they said it's because Officers can't catch criminals otherwise, so I guess that's fair).

You think such a small change wouldn't do much for combat, but it does. I've seen more variety in weapons used in a single round than over in /tg/ over an entire week. Actual guns are used, actual firefights are had and fights take much longer to happen with several blows traded between people. Even traitors that want to kill someone, either have to put actual effort into it or come up with sneaky plans to kill people. And this makes them so much more fun, with intense fights or the craftiest plans you'll ever seen.

Ever heard that story about the clown that set off first a LSD grenade in the bar and afterwards a "everyone dies now" greande in the bar, thinking they were both LSD? All part of the chemists plan because he didn't want to engage his target in a fight. Happened in Hatestation. On /tg/, it would be CH injections only.

Courtroom update coming through. Added a bunch of new fancy stuff and redrew the Courtroom area

Only problem is that you can't see the whole area properly from the spectator seats. Thus I rigged a camera that you can see and HEAR through

You can watch it through the TV monitors, and I added a bunch around the station for convenience. Also if you're interested in the audience, you can actually hear and see them from the camera too, so props for physically showing up at the trial

Did you know? Stamina doesn't work as it's intended in /tg/.
Everytime your stamina damage goes over 100, it runs "weaken(5)" on you and resets stamina to 100. 5 ticks on the ground is not enough to do anything, and reapplying stamina damage does not extend the time you spend on the ground further than 5 seconds, making it useless to arrest people.

However the slow does work as intended and annoys people, so it's a feature that doesn't work for what it was made for but works to annoy people. FUN!

In other news, coderbus is trying to change lockboxes and guns again. What was initially proposed as a (very reasonable and probably necessary) nerf to the cost of assault rifles so that you can't print thousands of them has now turned into "let's nerf all ballistic weapons, reduce their damage, and remove their stun." This includes the C-20r, by the way.

Also the "let's police lockboxes way harder and/or make them impossible to open" issue has been opened yet again, with such stunning propositions as, "make it so that you can only print them on code red," "security should be alerted when lockboxes are opened," and "you should only be able to open them with the proper ID or an emag and nothing else."

These changes mean that that we'll be seeing more formerly-useful-now-useless items in the near future and a security force that's even stronger than ever. Remember that you have the power to speak your mind and put a stop to these changes.

I want to try sec but I'm not sure what I should be using in equipment.
From what I have read, don't wear the silly beret, carry two tasers, carry two cuffs, always wear the glasses and full suit, and stun batton on you at all times.
Is there anything else I should know, like where is the best place for the sps device and should I carry a green radio tuned to sec that is always on?

I always carry spare cuffs in my internals box and I constantly find myself in situations where I have to use them. It can be as simple as another officer dragging your prisoner to brig and running into another arrest on the way to get new cuffs.
