This is something that I've had to cope with. The first problem is that is it even worth it eventually. Easiest way is to imitate others: just listen to lot of people (if you don't have social contacts just visit chat rooms/ watch television and find out hottest topics) and you can pretty much find different patterns. Essentially you have to become a very good actor.
The difficult part is when you realize that it's essentially all big lie and you are never actually meant to fit in. It's much more satisfying to do what you are actually capable of doing. Your first step should be to actually consider if the goal you are working towards is actually worth all the effort.

My dad wasand still isa hypocrite, on both big and small things.

Okay, dramatics aside, I invited a friend (one of my only very close friends) out so we can spend some time together. All this week she was excited about it until suddenly... the plan's off. An incredibly vague excuse and never directly answering my questions. We talked back and forth between text until she abruptly ended the conversation and went to sleep.
I was upset, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She was probably telling the truth, but I thought about things. How many times have we talked over the phone? Zero. How many times has she initiated a conversation with me via text? Next to none, I always start the conversation. I don't know your feelings, I don't know if you have anything invested in this girl as a 'girl', it sounds like you do but if it's your only friend then that sort of behavior is understandable for that. The question is, how is she seeing it?
