apprentices notice the book contains prophecy of war and something about a traitor

they start to recruit keyblade wielders to gather the light and "save" it from the war

also they kind of turn against each other because of the stuff about the traitor

the book/pages/whatever are like the journal in coded so stuff written in it can be simulated/conjured

wielders start to gather light fragments by traveling through worlds summoned from the book

for some reason they have to go through the book; due to the "structure of the world" it's not possible to gather all the light just by going through the normal world

eventually the wielders start to succumb to darkness

also the tension amongst the apprentices/foretellers starts to mount

The Guardians of Light are really the stand ins for the Princesses of Heart. Xehanort has pretty much set it up to where if they try any funny business he'll just go after the Princesses directly and get his ideal ratio against his Darknesses and presumably in the process hurt them and more people. So he's pretty much forcing their hands. Xehanort's main goal is to simulate the clash to bring forth the X-blade and unlock Kingdom Hearts so if they can minimize the potential damage and take him out, that would be the ideal option.

I get the same sense, but I'd clarify what you said since you made it sound a bit ridiculous -- basically people think that as long as there is a reason for something, no matter how stupid or thematically/tonally inconsistent it is, it's somehow justified.

It's actually a very pervasive pattern in fiction these days -- a lot of works in the past were not terribly accurate or even always internally consistent, but the theming was generally there. A lot of modern stories scrape by on rather bland or even inconsistent theming so long as the causal relationships are there.

I just finished replaying the ending of DDD and I still find Yen Sid giving the pass to solely Riku as kind of bullshit. I get Sora doesn't give a shit about the title, but he was still able to hold out until almost the very end against Xehanort's mind fuckery. I kind of see it as a parallel to what happened between Aqua and Terra only without the animosity. Also Lea summoning his keyblade was kind of cool. At the very least though even if Sora isn't a keyblade master in KH3 he's on the level of one.

0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- really should be available to download by itself. I don't want to pay $60 for that, a game I already have on 3DS and an hour long movie that I'm just going to watch on YouTube. Maybe I can rent it for a decent price when it comes out. You'd be naive to think that being the case. Episode Duscae still has yet to be available anywhere outside of the Day One edition of Type 0, and the only demo that has been made available to people who didn't get that release of Type 0 is Platinum Demo (which is just a glorified tech showcase with some mechanical improvements, while Duscae was more of the real deal).

I was referring to the availability of the real demo for FFXV. The point I was making was that releasing something small like Episode Duscae or A Fragmentary Passage (I wouldn't be surprised if the two were actually comparable in length and content) separately after it has more or less been bundled with something else is just not something Square does. Not only that, but if the rumors of KH not being allowed for digital distribution due to legal reasons is true, it's highly unlikely they'd give 0.2 it's own special retail release on it's own.
