Atlus USA does the actual localizing. They would have known there was no way Persona 5 was going to be released in 2015 way before the delay was annoucned.

I would like dual audio. Even though if it came with both options I would almost certainly play dubbed first because that's just how I am with video games. But Japanese voices add replay value. I have played both P3 and P4 again with JP voices and I enjoyed comparing the two different performances and thinking about how it made the characters seem a little different.

So on the whole I am pro-dual audio but sometimes the endless bitching for it gets on my nerves. In the same way as waifuposting gets on my nerves too, though I partake in both discussions occasionally.

Have you considered the possibility that there is something in between "not knowing anything" and "100% fluent in japanese?" From the translated trailers we already know the important plot points, the in game symbols can tell you what element the attacks are, if you've played any other persona game you can play it just fine combat-wise. If you accept every side quest in the school you'll probably complete some of them just by accidentally collecting the thing the students want.

The main thing you might miss are the dialogue options when choosing, and I'd wager S. Link guides will be up by the time anyone who imports get their game. Let's say those guides are in japanese too, you can match the in game dates with the guide and just pick whatever option seems to be getting the S. Link points (or happy character portraits and a "ding" noise).

You'll miss alot but it's not like people exist in a vacuum. With the internet and a bit of common sense you can get pretty far I'd wager, maybe all the way to the bad ending but still. I don't see why anyone who can afford it shouldn't import, might be a fun experience.
