By far the best weapon in the game that aren't adminspawn are the assault rifles. They are functionally the same as the nuke op SMGs. 20 brute damage per hit. 80 damage on burst fire if you manage to land all 4 hits

the tator revolver and the mateba can debrain in 2 hits. Revolver is I think 70 and matemba is 60. They can blow a head off your target if you shoot them point blank I believe

Don't fall for the shotgun meme. Lethal combat shotguns do 60 damage but don't knockdown and need pumping. regular shotties do 40 and they both have a 5 shell capacity if you chamber a slug.

in most situations. the AR is the BEST weapon because of it's versatility. it can do a lot of damage with burst fire which is great on targets that can't be knocked down (xenos, mechs, turrets, hostile mobs, mutated people)

and single fire is great for slippery enemies like wizards and vamps because of not only the knockdown, but also the high potential for bleeding/internal bleeding. Combine that with a huge ease of reloading and it's really the best. It's only downside is being a ballistic weapon and thus easier to dodge

I was working on pixel movement for a while, but it's on hold until I can get some conceptual stuff nailed down, and even then a lot of people don't seem to want it
There are a lot of things in SS13 that rely on tilebased movement and I'm not sure how they should be addressed

I BELIEVE there's a BYOND library out there for pixel visibility, but I'm sure it's slow as fuck, and it requires pixel movement anyway

Seems like it's pretty much like ours but with the arm blades, a dumbed down emag, the vampire shriek with the serial numbers filed off, and some other stuff that would only work in a heavy-RP server to begin with. Plus, unlike our lings they can re-pick their powers instead of gaining more evolution points (unless they absorb another ling, and on this server there's an unwritten rule that lings stick together if they want to survive).

It would be better to port individual powers and/or make some of our own that wouldn't completely overlap with vampires.

I take it you mean headcrab transformation. I don't think it's possible to control multiple mobs at once like that in BYOND, but I could be wrong.

So modifying regenerative stasis so it can hurt people who try to touch your body? Interesting, even if it's a huge giveaway to anyone who survives it. Allowing changelings to use stings while in regenerative stasis might have a similar effect, I guess.

I'm not sure that transforming needs to be nerfed like that, it's rarely used as it is despite being the changeling's main gimmick.

That could solve the problem of regenerative stasis being useless if people know you're a ling, though in practice I think that might just make people use the crematorium as the favored method of ling disposal rather than decapitation or gibbing. I think the rapid regeneration power also covers that to an extent, but it's expensive and rarely used.

Sometimes you need to use a game mechanic more than once, if you are going to design a game. Not every interaction and trait can have unique mechanics.

Use a screwdriver on a headset. The chip pops out. It can hold up to 2. Repeat on the headsets you want.

The golden ticket is the Captains headset that has one chip for all channels. But all heads headsets are valuable since they have command freq. The HoP moreso since it has Command + Supply + Security.

A good way to get these (non command/sec) headsets is to just ask. Most people don't give a fuck and if they were willing to give you anything they'd give you a headset. If you can't locate one of the three dual frequency headsets then try the Morgue. Many jobs have access to it and since its hallway adjacent on all maps, you could just ask the AI to open either the hallway or the maint door for sneaky entry. Granted this will make the AI think you are a changeling but why the fuck not unless you are. Then just hack the door. The morgue in any decent med-high pop round will be a treasure trove of headsets. In lowpop where this isn't viable just hack into departments since less people will be nearby doors and steal a whole locker.

The primary alternative to this is to acquire a fuckload of station bounced radios or intercoms. Everyone around you will be able to hear the radios but that may or may not be a problem to you.

Alternative two: If you are a mechanic or otherwise have telecomms access you can have script all radio messages to repeat on a custom channel (like 148.1 or 149.3 or whatever you want) giving yourself a self built all channel headset by tuning your headset to the custom channel and letting the script copy-reroute all messages to your channel.

The limb removal test could work, but then you have the caveat that if you do it to someone who isn't a ling, you're bound to get in trouble, both IC and possibly with the admins unless you can convince them you had good reason to assume the innocent victim was a ling. Plus, I have to wonder if the limbs themselves might be used to metagame somehow -since you'd need to run a check to keep them from attacking the changeling they came from, if that ling tries to assume a new identity people might instead see if the limbs try and attack him or not. First, this is a server that hates the RP which would make such a thematic changeling round impossible. Why else would people have been relying on monkeymen and braindead players as a source of genomes for so long? Even introducing changeling detection tests could have the equivalent effect of dragging everyone to the chapel in a vampire round, even if it's as drastic as limb removal.

Second, this "team" could easily expand to the point where they could just end up brute-forcing when they outnumber the station, since nowhere here are there limits set on how many lings there can be in total, nor does any ling have anything to lose by making new lings. With revs and cultists this is fine since the former doesn't have anything to rely on but numbers and the latter needs time to get all of its toys set up and working. But when each individual so converted is a difficult-to-kill being with built-in chloral injectors that it can use while stunned, you have a situation that is quite literally unwinnable for the crew short of shit like singuloosing or bombing the station. You know, the things that get people banned when they're not antagonists.

In effect, you're trying to make a mode where they were all supposed to play solo (and I feel would actually be better as a solo mode- there was only one Thing at any given time, it just shapeshifted each time it was killed; not like that's possible since most lings are exposed or killed before they even get one genome) into a team mode without ever thinking of how that might play out ingame.

Finally, what instakill buttons are you talking about? All of a ling's abilities need time to kill someone except for horror form, and since the monkeyman exploit isn't around that's barely affordable in most if not all situations.

As a counterpoint to all this, allow me to put forth one of my own suggestions. Noting that they have no ranged abilities, I would like to propose that either the extend range effect actually makes stings into projectiles or a bio-gun that would function similar to an ebow, but use chemicals for every shot and not irradiate its targets. Thus removing the issue that a ling has to be right next to someone to sting them, making even "silent" stings obvious.

Alternately, allow a headcrab ability or other ways for lings to regenerate that actually give them a chance to revive before being gibbed or what have you.

The coders think so, the people actually playing the game right now think so- hell, it even takes out one of the interesting mechanics where lings can betray one another, and in fact is even further away from the movie than the current one because THERE WAS ONLY ONE THING THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE. It never split, it never turned corpses into new things, it just transformed.

But let me go over what would have to change to make that mode a reality.

1. More than the bare minimum of RPing. Even standing too close to someone for too long gets people suspicious now, and since everyone knows how every antag works nobody will ever listen to you if you try to lure them anywhere. Which I presume is why the parasting and the like exist in the first place.

2. The ability to deconvert lings. Imagine if there was no way to deconvert revolutionaries- that would be the same thing as these new changelings, even if they had no powers at all. A conversion mode ought to have a way to deconvert.

3. Massively reduced powers for individual lings. I'm talking no stings, regeneration that can be used only a limited number of times in total or maybe only once, and not much more killing ability than an ordinary human. Which all would take away from the main reasons a person might want to be a changeling in the first place.

And it certainly won't be anything close to the Thing as you want so dearly, because shit that works in a horror movie doesn't translate well to an online game where the victims are supposed to be able to have a fighting chance too.

Lings should actually be monstrous flesh things that actually kill/maim people actively. Nexis' horror form didn't fulfill this and changeling is still a shitty mode because of it.

Lings as they stand right now are just shitty body snatchers (or not even body snatchers because nobody bothers assuming identities in the first place) with built in parapens and an oh shit revive button. That's all they are. There's nothing dynamic or exciting about that. They bring nothing to the table and don't cause any chaos or actual disruption unless the player goes out of their way to act like a garden variety shitter. If you get killed by one, oh well. Log out and play a different video game for a couple hours. It's not even worth observing 90% of the time because the mode encourages and facilitates cowardly play instead of antagonization. There's no practical way of defending yourself against one and no means of determining whether or not somebody is actually a changeling unless they're extremely sloppy and leave husks all over the station or get caught in the act and lasered to death by someone with weapons.

It's a poorly designed and counter-intuitive game mode and should either be scrapped or completely refactored. It's a net drag on the game and players' experience with it.
