Bait him to the doors of the cathedral, then use beast roar to push him into a corner, then spam r1 until you run out of stamina, hit beast roar when you're out of stamina to knock him down again in order to recharge

The amount of endurance you want is pretty weapon dependent to be honest. Anywhere between base and 20 is fine, with bigger weapons requiring more End. Judge for yourself: level it until you're comfortable with the amount of stamina you have.

Unless you're running a strength build, you really never need more than base endurance. More can be nice, depending on your choice of weapon, but endurance is a luxury stat more than anything. Some weapons like to have more, like the Burial Blade or the Beast Claw, but you'll never need any more than 20, and that's at the far end of the spectrum.

Gold with the effect around it are root chalices, silver with the effect is sinister root chalices. Root chalices can be made cursed or rotted or foetid or any combination of the three depending on the particular depth, whereas sinister can only be made sinister (spawning a chime maiden).

Searching a standard chalice allows you to recreate it for no cost, which is useful for early game Arc builds (to get two decent fire radials straight after BSB) and if there's a certain material you want to farm sometimes standards are better than roots for it (for example in Lower Loran Layer 1 there's a chest with two Ritual Blood (5)'s, and you can create it, rush to the chest, delete it, then create it again to respawn the RB5 at no cost).

I'm not sure what kind of enlightenment you need. Gems are used to increase damage. Some have secondary and tertiary effects. Some have curses. The best ones are found in depth 5 FRC root dungeons. The OP has links for specific information you might be interested in.

As for gems, I'd recommend grinding the Winter Lanterns in Fishing Hamlet for the best physical gems barring Chalice stuff. Pretty easy to do with frenzy resistant gear.

BoM and Rakuyo would compliment the cane best. Burial Blade and Church Pick are fine weapons, but their best assets are the reach and crowd control capabilities which the cane already has, whereas BoM and Rakuyo thrive on getting in tight and shredding shit up, which you can do with the cane but nowhere near as well.

That being said, BB is a lot heavier than the cane which makes it better for staggering larger enemies/bosses. In the end they're all Skl weapons anyway so pick whichever you like most, upgrade 'em, then change 'em around whenever you feel like it. By the time you can get BB or Rakuyo the game will have shit out enough chunks for it.

I'm just wondering because my HMLS (Lost version) is feeling pretty weak atm. I just got it though honestly and I'm only BL45, with a few phys +9% gems and the 9% nourishing gem from under Iosefka's clinic. The untricked R2 stab is really the only attack with some "oomph" and the tricked version is what mostly feels shitty. I'm thinking it will fill out more with some decent gems and my goal stats. Go 50 Strength for a better physical HMS but poor beams, 50 Arc for the other way around. 25 strength with 50 Arc is what I run and it does decent damage on the physical side, the beams hit really hard too. If you don't have a problem with going higher, adding 25 skill is good for the physical damage and helps visceral damage. I don't have any webms to show at the moment though sorry

I will say atm that any attack where the beam and the slash hit at the same time totally destroys most nerds.

Either way I'm still going to go 25 Str / 12 Skl / 50 Arc - I like the idea of being able to use the arcane tools with some decent power behind them. Auger has developed a loving relationship for me and I'm going to be sad not using it on other, non Arc oriented, builds.

Yeah it'll be better for the whole moveset to go 25/50 Str/Arc but some people really like the one-handed moveset as it resembles the Claymore in the previous titles so they go 50/25 to make it hit harder. Only thing that'll really lack going 50/25 is the beams and not being able to use Tools as effectively as 50 Arc but the two-handed moves isn't totally gimped since it's still physical/arcane split.

DS3 is okay, I've put about 250 hours into it. It has Bloodborne hitboxes and is faster than DS2. There are some retarded design choices that I feel cock it up (you can only carry 99 arrows at a time and only hold another 99 or so in your storage box), and fast weapons do just as much damage as slow weapons, but other than that its pretty fun.
