Been playing for 11 hours with a 5 hour sleep break and this is the most fun I've had in fucking ages, and I've only declared war once to annex Ireland. There's quite a few things I don't like, like the fact that the map isn't solid, some civil war events are bugged so Poland keeps having civil wars every single year but overall I think this could be Vicky II tier if Paradox tries to actually fix it and doesn't pander to reddit.

Still not as good as Darkest Hour though.

Fix fascism in British dominions. They shouldn't get rid of the union jack from their flags. The main change should be adding the lightning flash to the small Union jacks on the dominion flags. Canadian/Australian/South African fascism was just an extension of British fascism. Bring it back to Armies and up, the worst part of HoI3 was having to move corps HQs.

Hourly reminder HOI4 has only 483 unique minister portraits, compared to 17,524 in Darkest Hour, and 17,698 in HOI3, and this doesn't even take into account identical men wearing different suits; so the actual title is probably even lower.

I can't get them out and sometimes they randomly manage to attack from neutral territory for whatever reason. They've honestly covered my entire front with Russia with troops. Can anyone tell me what exactly is plan value? What does it do? Also, when I declare war on a country and give my commander the order to execute it, he always gets those negative modifiers. Plan value was +80% before I executed it, and it didn't have shit like "Division still preparing" or "Some divisions not in position"

so I pretty much spent all day playing as Italy, and here is my two cents

1)ai is too defensive and builds shitty divisions
2) the naval system is an interesting concept, enjoyed playing with submarines and carriers, but disliked how long it took to build ship; to rival Britain you have to basically put your entire industry into naval ports and even then a single shitty battle (or if a port strike takes you unawares) can effectively decimate your entirenavy and take you out of the game

3)handling aircraft is very finicky and take a lot of time to move, deploy, missions state and produce them. Equally it's pretty shitty when you have 500 fighters in your main port region and they cant find and fight the 200 port bombers coming to wreck your fleet. Tried out strategic bombing but felt it was more a multiplayer system

4)the industry is a bit mixed, you sepdn a lot of time building a metric ton of civilian factories if you are naval incline but when the world war hits repairing exisiting factores take so long that you don't build any more industry and simply steal others. Infrastructure and supply might as well not be there as supply does very little to affect you army and you can walk through the sahara desert with a 30 division stack without worrying too much

5) division of territory congresses rarely occur because of the german events that effectively allow them full conquest of territory

6) late game teching up is a massive chore (1941 onwards) as you don't really need to because of the braindead ai, and the supply needed to tech up , replace and upgrade all your units just chokes your industry

8) equally, the fact technology trees are so linear means that you aren't committed to one style of play=same game everytime

summary

it will probably be good with human opponents, but altogether the ai really lets the game down, and some of the controls and management systems are downright tedious to use. I rate it a 6/10 needs more work

At a treaty the AI will use all it's points in the first few turns and then never do anything else, thus allowing you to skip 60 turns and annexing everything.

Reich in German means Realm, not Empire. Directly translated German Reich is German Realm. Wiemar Germany was still officially called 'Deutsches Reich'. Alright, I've worked out the unclear aspect of 'neutrality'. It refers to the ideology at game start. Some countries have Democratic ideology, some have Communist ideology, etc. This is quite silly because Poland was democratic but does not have Democratic ideology.

So 'neutrality' = Non-Aligned. USA is Democratic. France is Democratic. If both were to become Non-Aligned, they would turn into the CSA and a monarchist nation respectively.

It all makes sense now.

Here's a look at the diplomatic view, red generally just means I have a casus belli on them, I'm at war with Mainz.

I think at this stage in the game my plans are to just lay low with my empire for awhile, fight off and maybe pick the French blister a little.

In terms of my next targets it's either Ireland or Scotland, who I get free "temporary" casus belli against until 1821.
