Robin gives Lucina the future she deserves and she gives him a clarity of purpose he's been lacking because of his amnesia. It won't increase the likelihood of Aether, it just checks it first. It "rolls" for the least likely to activate skills first and works its way up. So if Aether fails, it will try Sol. I like Sol enough I wouldn't call it a waste, but YMMV. Lethality I believe has the lowest activation rate, so it rolls for it before anything.
