Not true at all, I just look for opportunities to attack where and when I can. When someone pulls out the parry item I punish parry whiffs acting like I'm going to R1. If they catch on to me not running R1'ing I'll actually hit them with a running R1. I mean, broadsword is short as fuck, I have to get close and pick my moments. The 1HR2 is also really good for catching rolls.

But no, this is hardly a turtle build. It's a use-a-shield-to-get-in-close-enough-to-attack build. It's just that obviously people are going to parry R1 spam, is that what you want me to do?

I think I fucked up? I went to archdragon peak as soon as I got the gesture because I was thrilled by it. Problem is I am extremely underlevelled (65) and I get beaten to Andromeda if there are more than 2 enemies at once.
tl;dr I killed the plunging attack wyvern, killed the drakeblood guy and I panickly rang the bell as soon as I found it.

Again, this is an objective downgrade from DaS1. In DaS1, you could roll away while locked on, an if you did a rolling attack at the end of that roll it would be aimed at your target. In DaS2, the attack aims in the direction you rolled.

This isn't a "feature". It doesn't help you in any way. It's just bad game design.

Could someone explain the appeal of the dark sword to me? I've never used it before so now that I'm trying out all of the weapons with my quality build, I decided to give it a shot. SL120 duels. And... it just seems really shitty. The "phantom range" isn't as long as I thought it would be, and mostly I just keep getting outranged by everything, while at the same time can't really deal with hyper armor all that effectively. Just like... any kind of spear or glaive or ultra weapon etc just destroys me since either I trade and get rekt or get outranged. Just doesn't seem that great, at least at high level. Am I missing something or should I go back to my other me(me)ta weapons?

Just booted up the game to double check and you're wrong.

There are 2 problems here, rolls face you in the direction you are moving, even while locked on, and you can't pivot more than ~60 degrees.
