if you're playing something like soraka/janna, you're literally at the mercy of your adc. you have no initiative of your own, and you rely on your adc to go and smartly do small trades while you heal/shield them.

if you're playing a poke support like zyra or a hook support like blitz, you don't have to care what your adc does. just fuck their shit up and make them low and scared and have to recall. if you get them in a good position and your adc wants to go in and finish the kill, great. if not then they recall and you push 2 waves and buy with an xp advantage, and that's fine too.

past laning phase, buy a banner of command and set up waves. shit gives you free towers.

as a support, what really rustles my jimmies are xp difference and slot issues. i would like the sightstone items to give catch up xp, and i'd like a separate slot for pinks. and then i'd be happy. i'd also like the eye/red ward items to recharge (like yellow trinkets do).

but to really fix support, you should just kill it with fire. reconfigure jungle for double jungler/roamer by changing how smite/jungle items work and discouraging non-smiters from taking camps (like making it a lot harder to do camps without smite and giving less benefit).

There's literally no fixing it. It's a self-perpetuating perception by the community that has little to no bearing on the actual game. Supports have never been richer, never been this important to the success of the team, and had as deep a pool of picks including tanks, utility mages, and carries. The problem doesn't lie with the game, but rather the people who play it. It's the same reason why it's so hard to get a Medic in TF2, or someone to play a support class in Overwatch, or what have you.

Serious question. why is rengar allowed to exist in the game when his kit is so loaded and he pays nothing for it?
Like two examples I can give you who are similar to him are shaco and kha'zix and neither of them deals nearly as much damage as him without needing to build a buttload of damage items and sacrifice their safety but rengar gets to build tanky and passively gets damage/more tankiness from his ability while being manaless cancer.

ezreal is picked because he builds armor and can lane at 1000 range if needed so he doesn't care what you're putting against him since he only interacts with his opponent if he wants to
everybody else can't deal with these 2 tumors at all, so they stay unpicked
