Remember kids: This is the kind of mentally insane people running the PCSX2 project. They think they are making a difference, but the reality doesn't show that.
There is no point in making a significantly slower VU compiler, if it doesn't do what its suppose to do. It looks like the code for SuperVU was too filled with Spaghetti for cottonvibes to fix it(for the 3-4 games he plays), so he literally made a fork, and his mental illnes made him disguise his claims.

PCSX2 in a nutshell:

>Code gets accepted
>Finish those 10-20 PS2 games that is wanted to be played

Most likely he played Katamari, Ace combat and Okami, and maybe Prince Caspain. So he did a small edit to "fix" those games. And since he managed to become a part of the hierarchy, it was merged, and made standard.
It also do shit like increasing the input delay in SOTC, the performance cost is also rather big. Its basically a plaster, when what VU and all the components its connected to, needed proper documentation into a full rewrite to even get it working properly.

Performances maybe:

< [Unknown]> we're getting much better texture upload speeds with Vulkan
< [Unknown]> but as far as blending... it's not that different a problem, really
< [Unknown]> buffer storage etc. is definitely cleaner
< [Unknown]> for example, we have code to upload stencil data (using 8 passes, 1 per bit)
< [Unknown]> vulkan can just upload buffer data directly to stencil

PCSX-R/epsxe over clocking is true CPU over clocking. It can cause issues to the games but has big gains.

Simias's "Overclocking" is not OC at all, but rather removing bottlenecks. It produces a modest FPS boost, and removes many slowdowns, but not as much as true OC. But the main benefit is that it has, as far as anyone can tell, no drawbacks.
>>
>>144585308

Pretty much, worst it can do is make a game too demanding to run at full speed all the time, G-police might be the best example of that (any smoke effect with OC on makes the fps go from 300 to 90-50.

Nobody bothered to correctly do shadows way back in the day because they were really system intensive, nobody knew how to do them properly, and PCSX2 was designed with a "We gotta get FFX and FFXII running ASAP" mentality, so most people just used a "disable all shadows" hack and just ignored the huge, glaring problem

Now we're at a point where the only way to get good shadows is to basically rewrite everything from scratch.

I started emulating Wild Arms 3 on PCSX2 1.2.1 and it worked fine until I fucked up ingame and decided to quit and load back a previous save (not a save state, I'm new to emulating and need to get used to doing that). Square had a huge following back then, it was one of the top devs. Maybe something like Rockstar or Naughty Dog is these days. You could buy a console just for a Square game.

Then they fucked up by being largely incompetent and became mostly irrelevant. Die hard fanboys think FFXV will bring back the golden age. I'm not holding by breath.

Maybe they never completely recovered from the movie. Or maybe they just didn't succeed in adapting to modern consoles. FFX was good but not as groundbreaking FFVII had been on the PSX. FFXII had a pretty mixed reception. FFXIII was a complete trainwreck (if you disagree you're objectively wrong) and instead of moving to something new they kept releasing sequels and spin-offs.

It's pretty hard to recognize the Squaresoft that made Chrono Trigger, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve and Xenogears in the modern Squeenix. It's a shadow of its former self, doomed to make HD re-release and kingdom hearts sequels. They'll probably soon follow Konami and become pachinko makers first and foremost I'd wager.
>>
>>144687485
>Die hard fanboys think FFXV will bring back the golden age.

It's an open world game. It will play EXACTLy like every other Open World game ever and bore me to tears just like every other Open World game ever.

>Maybe they never completely recovered from the movie.

They didn't. It financially ruined them, and Enix had to bail their asses out.

>Or maybe they just didn't succeed in adapting to modern consoles.

That's another. J-rpgs had combat that was very much an abstraction and based on tabletop games. The combat didn't really improve when it totally should. As such they got boring and didn't appeal to most people. They should have completely gotten rid of these battles past the SNES era. But they could never quite figure out how to get a party of people, controllable in real time.

Then the budgets. AAA development balooned. I hear that most AAA snes games only cost a few million each. Compare that to the 10 year development cycle of FFXV. There's no way that thing is ever going to make a profit. FF7 remake is likely them re-using the engine and assets to make a profit on the game. Notice how it's split up content now to maximize profits. You can't make daring, quirky weird little games on modern AAA budgets anymore.
>>
What's the latest word on the SMT games in PCSX2? Last time I checked, hardware rendering messed up shadows and software rendering had slowdown during spell animations even on high-end machines

Has it been improved on either end?
>>
>>144688243
>It financially ruined them, and Enix had to bail their asses out.
Not entirely. Sony helped recoup most of the loss. The merger issue was more Enix wanting to merge with Square, not the other way around. The head at the time, Suzuki, thought it was a bad move, but Wada thought otherwise. Square changed heads and let Wada do his thing.

Dev cost increases destroyed the JRPG genre. There was little Square or any other dev could do. Not only that but games with the amount of play time and content available in the genre became a long term development process and not just something you could put out in a year or a year and a half. This increased their risk immensely and yet their sales could not really get any higher after FF7.
>>
>>144691137

Why can't they just make games aimed at selling 1-3 million copies? that has alwyas been the "sweet spot" for the best quality games. Pretty much all the Souls games aim for this level of sales.
>>
>>144693821
That's still not enough for a standard full-fledged JRPG. You aim for that and you get abortions like Star Ocean 5 or FF13-2

>Allowing overclocking of the main SNES CPU (as opposed to coprocessors) in bsnes would require major changes to the CPU and PPU. If you want to make games run with fewer/no lag frames, you have to increase the number of CPU cycles per video frame; in other words, run the CPU faster while still running the PPU at normal speed. And bsnes is completely full of assumptions that the CPU and PPU run at exactly the same speed as each other.

That's mainly what I was thinking about when I was talking about "incompetence". I don't think any FF past VIII has had a straightforward dev cycle (maybe X?). It's been development hell after development hell. It's like they don't know how to make video game anymore in the modern age.

>>144691137

And yet Square should have been one of the few JRPG devs who could have managed to compete in the world of modern AAA games given how popular they were. They could justify sinking a shitload of money in FF games given how much they sold back then.

But then they decided to make a crappy movie for some reason. And not even a fun "Pixar-like" movie either, but rather something that aimed at photo-realism and replacing real life actors.

Oh and they wanted the 3D models of the movie to appear in other movies in different roles in order to create virtual movie stars.

Drugs killed Squaresoft.

They got completely enamored with CGI movies that they lost focus. Notice how FF8 and FF9 have too many of them, and they often serve little to no purpose. They thought they could pioneer this. But they also just straight up forgot to make an interesting movie.

If you're gonna use plugin hell for your PS1 needs might wanna give PCSXR-PGXP a try, it's almost identical to ePSXe but you get a couple nice things on top like perspective correct texture mapping or a GTE hack that is much more effective.

That is absolutely the cause. Mednafen needs very specific BIOS files, but luckily, they're all on our wiki. You could try renaming your BIOS file to scph5501.bin, but you're better off getting the real scph5501.bin

It's a meme with almost no validity. THe only possible game that might be worth playing on Dolphin is Pokemon Snap (assuming the performance isn't bad) and maybe Mario tennis. >>144757518
>Now THIS is misinformation brought you by someone who has no idea how N64 emulation works
What am I wrong about?
>>
>>144757587
AngryLion's needs a NASA supercluster to run Super Mario 64 at full speed. I've personally tested both an FX-8350 overclocked to 4.4GHz, and an i5-6600k stock, and neither had any chance of hitting 60VI/s. These are not garbage tier netbook CPU's, they are flagship CPU's from both AMD and Intel.

Meanwhile, many devs, Simias and LuigiBlood included, who both post here, say that the Vulkan renderer is a huge step up from AngryLion's in terms of performance, and is basically going to get rid of every bottleneck available.

Seriously, saying we don't need the Vulkan renderer because we have AngryLion's is like saying we don't need a hardware renderer for Mednafen because we already have ePSXe. We need the hardware renderer because ePSXe is shit. We need the Vulkan renderer because AngryLion's is unusable.
>>
>>144661226
>>ever doubting daeken
>>
>>144757948
>and neither had any chance of hitting 60VI/s
What kind of numbers did you get?
>>
>>144758483
42~ VI/s for both in the castle courtyard area and inside the castle. Since Intel has far superior single core performance compared to AMD CPU's, I feel like it might have easily hit 60 VI/s for both if it wasn't being bottlenecked by the super unoptimized interpreter known as cxd4. But since nobody wants to write a dynarec that's portable off Windows or actually try to optimize AngryLion's, we'll never know.
>>
>>144757948
Most people I've encountered, whine about angrylion being low res, after contradicting themselves about how inaccurate N64 emulation is.

I do admit that some games are slower than I remember, like Mario Tennis. But some VC games should already be full speed with Angrylion's.

>AngryLion's needs a NASA supercluster to run Super Mario 64 at full speed.
4ghz should be able to run SM64, but yeah that's not ideal.

>Seriously, saying we don't need the Vulkan renderer because we have AngryLion's is like saying we don't need a hardware renderer for Mednafen because we already have ePSXe.
I don't think it's "not needed" but rather that Angrylion's is already fine for some games.

>>144757427
>Not at playable speeds though.
Some games like Kirby 64 are. I even tried Pokemon Puzzle League and the only time I drop fps is in certain menus (hardly an issue for that game).
>>
>>144758770
>I feel like it might have easily hit 60 VI/s for both if it wasn't being bottlenecked by the super unoptimized interpreter known as cxd4. But since nobody wants to write a dynarec that's portable off Windows
I had a feeling you were using cxd4's. Yeah that would slow down the performance. M64p's x64 dynarec is also slower than other emulators. Ziggy apparently ported PJ64 1.4's dynarec to Linux. If that could be fixed up (shouldn't be too hard I imagine), then the performance would improve.

>or actually try to optimize AngryLion's, we'll never know.
If certain devs collaborated, this could actually happen. Are the Frankenmupen devs actually interested in optimizing it?
>>
>>144759582
>Are the Frankenmupen devs actually interested in optimizing it?
Maister's LLE Vulkan plug-in is basically AngryLion's running on the GPU instead of a CPU, so I guess you can technically say that they are.

Why play the worst version of Fatal Frame 2? Even if you don't have an Xbox/360 to experience the Director's Cut version, there was a remake that runs on the FF4 engine for the Wii that was released in Europe, and even has an undub available for it.
>>
>>144778192
Yeah it's fucking brutal. The app itself is surprisingly functional but weird bugs will pop up from time to time that make me want to give up. For instance in Iron Storm, if I ever Save and Quit, my main HQ building will literally disappear off the map. Gone. The following turn I'm met with a Game Over screen and everything. Fucking weird man.

I have a 360 and tried to play the Director's Cut version first because of the lewd outfits, but I coulnd't get it to run at all. I tried a lot of things but it always just displayed the old xbox logo and then froze.
I was trying to run a .xbe file on a console with jtag and not an original disc.

I could probably run the remake on Dolphin but wouldn't I need a wiimote? It seems like it would be shit to try to play on a keyboard or a normal gamepad.

GLideN64 originally used integer values for the depth buffer, but he ran into a snag and changed to floats, which broke Pokemon Snap (and likely some other games.) The Body Harvest issue is far more complex. Body Harvest relies on coverage emulation, and the only way to do that would be to render the necessary data in partial software mode. Not impossible - don't forget that Glide64's depth emulation is software-based - but complicated.

You're right, it's not impossible, but the chances of it being fixed in GLideN64 is very slim. Glide64's software depth buffer code is far too imprecise.

There's very few shaders available at all for Vulkan right now because the shader format is really new.

Though this slang-shader format that uses glslang and SPIRV-Cross sounds like it's supposed to be an eventual replacement for both the Cg and GLSL formats since it will support both GL and Vulkan.

I did get playable speeds with angrylion for some games. Rarely, but mostly I go over 30 VI/s at the very least which is pretty good for what it does.

However, let me say one thing about the "Vulkan renderer": it is compute shader based, and could work on OpenGL 4.3 (or anyone who has compute shader support). Vulkan may be more optimized overall, but do not forget OpenGL, which could still gain a lot of speed from it.
Honestly, once this comes out and is ported to other emulators: I ditch all the other plugins and only use this one. I don't mind the low res, at least I'm sure it's emulated right.

Also, about emulating N64 games on Dolphin: it is not a meme. It is a genuine solution along with playing on the actual Virtual Console on real hardware (for exemple, Donkey Kong 64 on Wii U). Even Rare Replay has a better N64 emulator for Conker and Jet Force Gemini.

Ok, I'll take your word on that. Have fun with frame skip in VC for Super Smash Bros :) .
>>
If anyone has Metroid Other M, could you post your md5 checksum?

I've tried about four different ones now and they're all shit dumps.

But anon this game is a shit dump.

Just like the game itself. How appropriate.

Other M is a good game. It's like a cross between Prime and Super.
>>
>>144887065
That's for Ridge Racer V on the PS2.

In that it apes the story of Super for the worse and features a heavily gimped first person mode. Hardly what I'd call good.
>>
>>144887334

Yeah, it's the same douche that's been trolling all day Here is your checksum: 8D37117E2059B6B9BB4932DFF58516AE
>>
>>144887385

No, actually I completely pulled that shit from my asshole. I've never even played the three Metroid games I randomly named.

Kill yourself my man.
>>
>>144887979
That doesn't match the redumps, but I haven't come across that particular one. Out of curiosity, where'd you grab it?

Maybe I'm just being autistic about this, but it's weird that there are so many different versions floating around.
>>
>>144888421
Getting redump Wii isos is pretty hard as far as I know. There's no readily available set anywhere public and scrubbing/compressing Wii isos irreversibly modifies them so they will no longer match redump (though they should still work no problem).
>>
>>144889815
Yeah, it's really annoying. I've had alright luck with several other games, but this one seems to be more trouble than it's probably worth.

I'm going to try running a couple wbfs versions through the backup manager and see what it shits out then I'm just going to give up.
>>
>>144874596
yabause is not a recommended emulator for saturn. see wiki. saturn emulation is a mess like n64. the best you could do is use at least the most compatible emulator.
>>
>>144851620
Bumpan for maybe a helpful response.

>>144885653

you're either a) a troll or b) a shity n64 emulator shill e.g. pj64 or that other dreadful one used in RA
>>
>>144889815
why do you want exact redumps? that's stupid, just download a regular one.

Did Microsoft remove the Directx9 download or something? It says the page isn't available. Even searching for it on their site doesn't work.

Same reason developers aim for accurate emulators. You want to play the game as it was originally released. You don't want some compressed garbage hacked together by some norwegian pirates.

What's the best pokemans game to emulate released after sapphire? I want something comfy to play in bed. Don't really know how far up the releases we have reliable, stable emus.

than buy the fucking game disc and rip it if you are so autistic about compression.

Isn't that just Gold with prettier graphics, though?

I kind of want some pokeymans i haven't seen before, althought I've heard the designs kind of hit the fan after gen 2.

>You don't want some compressed garbage hacked together by some norwegian pirates.
You're the asshole always thinking that SP is Danish, aren't you? In distance it's closer this time, but don't confuse us with our multicultural piracy-loving neighbour country, and consider doing some basic reading up on geography because you're embarrassingly bad at it.
>>

I'll be running it on my laptop in bed, which has nowhere near the cpu i'd need to emu 3ds. I think I'll settle for Platinum or White V2, will have to do some reading.
