I'm playing Nocturne for the first time and I just beat matador, but could someone explain why there are now mobs of 5+ enemies that are more difficult to dispatch of than that boss? I'm losing mp and quickly, I don't have near enough chakra drops to compensate either. At the same time, the woman in black wants me to find a save point and go to the labyrinth of amala.

Never played an SMT game before. I read the starter's guide in the OP, but I was wondering; would it be worth my time to play all the main series games starting from the beginning in release order? Have the older games aged well or are their systems outdated?

I disagree w/ the starter's guide recommending DDS before Nocturne. Fusion is really one of the hallmarks of the series and playing a 50 hour game without it feels wrong, as great as DDS is.

Nocturne, P3FES, or Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei (MT1 and MT2 packaged together) since you seem keen on the older games.

You can try winning one at the Junk Shop. I forgot if you need to spend 500 or 1000 Macca to get a Lucky Ticket, but what you want to do is get 9 Lucky Tickets, walk around until it's about to get Full Kagutsuchi, save, and get the 10th Lucky Ticket on Full Kagutsuchi. The shopkeeper Manikin will let you pick one of the three treasure boxes, and one of them (the middle one, iirc) has a random Incense. If you'll get the Incense you don't want you can always reload your save file.

Is there anyone trying to gather up phones with the MegaTen cell phone games on them now that they're no longer being sold? Is there any way they could get the game files off of them? I've been playing Nocturne for the first time and just got to Asakusa. I was wondering if it would be better to fuse my Sarasvati into a Kushinada or if I should wait until I can fuse it into a different demon.
The stats that Kushinada has are fine, but themoveset she lears is lacklustre while being weak to death spells is a big red flag.

Sarasvati is god tier so far, but I could see that dropping off as the game progresses.

Remember you can always use the compendium. You can have both Sarasvati and Kushinada if you'd like.

I personally always like having a Mana Refill demon or two in my stock with healing skills so I can freely heal throughout the game, so make sure you keep that.

Guys I'm currently playing through SJ and I have a question. Are Primes really worth it? I'm currently running a Prime team and it's working so far, but I'd like to know if it will fuck me over later

If the team you're working with is working fine for you, there's no need to change it. If any demons are beginning to lag, fuse them into better demons that fulfill your/the dungeon's requirements. You decide the viability of your team or any demons that you fuse or recruit. Kept the same demon for 3 sectors and they're still incredibly helpful? Keep it, or fuse it if you want a change. Is the demon lagging after half a sector? Keep it if you want, but it would be far better if you fused it.

I assume wherever you can buy premade cosplays from, like ebay. If he wanted it to be higher quality, and not something that looks cheap and bad, he would've had to either shell out more money for a higher quality premade (not sure if they would just sell the cape alone), pay someone to make the cape for him, or make it himself. I believe capes are somewhat easy to make if you at least have basic sewing and pattern making skills.

I'm pretty sure the reason why you think his post is dumb is you having an emotional reaction to the idea of genocide. Keep in mind though that these games aren't real life, that anon surely isn't saying you should consider genocide ever in real life. Look at the other alternatives the games give you, they're even worse considering the body count.

But from a onsequentialist standpoint the genocide can very well be desirable and even is a good solution (or the best) because if you compare all the suffering and deaths the Chaos and Neutral ending lead to (since in those demons are still a threat and everyone has to fight for their survival) with (the although at that moment huge amount of) people sacrificied in the Law ending for if not everlasting then at least very long lasting peace, the better action should be obvious (unless you aren't purely consequentialist of course, if you have other values to consider than the maximum amount of happiness of the maximum amount of people, the other endings might be better)
Paradise for everyone getting born in that world versus people dying and being born into a Hell or Earth in a state of war.

I went Persona 3 -> Persona 4 -> Nocturne -> Strange Journey (which I'm playing right now). There's an anon in this thread who started with the very first Megami Tensei though, and seems to be enjoying it, so starting at the absolute beginning and going through the series from there to see how it's evolved could be interesting. Depends on your patience with old and somewhat archaic games I guess - if you go that route, definitely get the Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei version (a bundled version of MT I and II) from the tips and tricks pastebin.

I don't think it being a game means that your beliefs should be set aside for another. I don't believe in tallying up the potential happiness of people in real life, so I don't in video games either. Anon who just started the series with Megami Tensei I here. I am finding it to be a fantastic game, it's pretty confusing and difficult since I've never played an SMT game in my life before and the systems are unfamiliar, but I'm making steady progress. I just got the ability to fly around a city. I think the decision for a starting point mainly lies with your own tastes and preferences. Starter's Guide in the OP is useful for advice.

For me personally I enjoy starting a game series from its beginning and watching as the series develops and evolves with each new entry. I just got done making a list of the mainline SMT games along with some of the side series games and the entire Persona series with all the games put into chronological order. 24 games long and I'm on game 1.
