DRK is a lot better than PLD as MT if you're actually familiar with the class and the fight, and even when it isn't better than PLD, it's a lot more fun.

The WHMs would have to be chosen by the Padjal though. Black Mages are usually in secret and would not step foot in the shroud most likely since their aura can be detected. If they use black magic in the shroud, they can just explain it away somehow to people who do not know lore. Omnimage is bullshit even then because this person knew nothing.

It basically reduces the damage a target deals by 10%, and it works against both physical and magical attacks. It is basically a combo finisher you use for mitigating heavy hits (i.e. tank busters, cleaves, raid damage), and provides a minor amount of self-healing.

The guides that say it doesn't matter have a stronger emphasis on pushing DPS. While pushing DPS is fine and all, sometimes you have to play it safe. Storm's Path can not only ease the outgoing damage of the enemy, it can also provide some respite for your healers to keep the party healthy and perhaps assist with DPS.

PLD has a slight mitigation advantage in fights with frequent, well-telegraphed, physical tankbusters (ie: things you can reliably block with Sheltron), and can help the party more in cases where the party is dying to infrequent, heavy raid-wide damage (ie: If everybody sucks and you're dying to something like Sacred Cross or Ultimate End in Thordan).
