So, I wanted to try Miracles out but then I remembered that I traded the Soul of the Lords for the Firelink Greatsword...
Do any of the other Miracles do decent damage? I know that (apparently) they do the least damage overall when compared to other spells, but how low are we talking?

I am mostly interested because Crystal Chime turned out to be better than I expected, and I want to take advantage of the fact that it can cast both Sorceries and Miracles.

It's a little arbitrary, I think.

Most of the boss souls that are worth huge amounts of souls are because they have extremely specialized items that don't fit on most builds. Deacons, for example, are worth 20k because both of its items are super specialized int/fth hybrid ones that no other build can really use. Both of the demon's soul items are str/pyro and the enemy itself is an optional encounter you can easily skip by running by, which is why its soul is worth so much.

ODK is a weird exception because it's rewards are a high-req pyro spell and another str/pyro weapon, and it's a completely optional boss that doesn't offer any reward except its soul, yet its soul is practically worthless. I assume it's probably a case like the Stray Demon. Stray Demon's soul is worth fuck all because it can transpose Havel's ring, and they didn't want to give the player any reason to eat the soul when it makes one of the most important build-enabling rings you can get (as well as the earliest a pure pyro can get a non-fire damage spell for clearing the demon ruins). I assume they probably intended for Chaos Bed Vestiges to be the ultimate pyro spell like it was in DaS2, and gated it behind the ODK assuming that the spell itself would have a value on-par with something like havel's ring.

I'm sure the spell will probably get buffed at some point when they actually bother to sit down and start properly balancing magic, since it's basically the only reason to ever kill that boss.

Raw Corvian Greatdagger is underrated as fuck. I think it's a must have for casters who don't have a better fast option or who want to avoid bestoc shittery

It's amazing. If you get the hang of it, you can effectively hamper aggressive approaches with straight/surved swords or katanas and whatnot because of the first 2HR1 being a thrusting jab. Try and work your spells and if they get in your face, dagger spam them into submission.

Hey guys, I'm currently making a video on the concept of why or why not the Souls games should be taken seriously as a fighting game. I would love to just simply read your input on the matter, as I want to get a good feel for what the community thinks.

Corvian GKnife is among the best weapons in the game for any elementally-focused build. Among the best buff candidates thanks to its fast, long-reach moveset and negligible physical stat dependancy and extremely light/low stamina cost.

Its biggest flaw is that its 1H moveset is trash and it pretty much has to be 2H to fight effectively, which prevents you from using magic and makes it extremely obvious when you want to cast something. Unfortunately, the 2H dependency makes it more of a buff-build's weapon than a caster build's weapon, but that does make it a servicable backup weapon to have alongside a Dragonslayer's Axe.

Is it just me or are ultra greatswords and greatswords really bad in DS3? It feels like every boss needs to be roll attacked into, and if you attack any other way you get blown up. Especially Soul of Cinder and Lorian/Lothric. Which is not something I see if I watch streams of people playing with small swords.

It's not a fighting game.
A couple of the basic reasons: rpg elements (eg. stats, builds, etc.) are a fundamental aspect of the game's design and balance and these inherently create an uneven playing field. Enforcing a common build for the sake of fair competition would just be cutting out a central; mechanic to the game (eg. smashfags with their final destination faggotry)

There's no offline play, which makes it impossible for serious competition. No competitive fighting game takes online matches seriously, even when delay is sub-10ms. No fight in DaS games is anything less than 50ms (which would be an absolute joke in any fighting game) and there's no way to circumvent netplay whatsoever, so the random and uncontrollable factor of latency and netcode will always play a major factor in the outcome of any fight

And the game's combat system is too mechanically simple to really create an interesting competitive environment or a high skill-ceiling necessary for worthwhile competition. There's no execution, no real pressure or mixup, no tight links or interesting combos or other mechanics. All the game has is some very rudimentary grounded 3d footsies, two(or in some cases three) attack buttons and a parry.

Comparing it to a fighting game is an apples & oranges kind of thing. It just isn't one, and it's silly to try and treat it like one.

I know, but on other bosses the NPCs I bring in usually get completely raped so I just get stuck with the health buff they give the boss. On Dancer or Vordt I remember Sword Master dying almost immediately.

I've brought 3 npcs into Pontiff and it's kind of hard to keep them alive too. It was just kind of surprising how much of a help he was in that fight.

It STILL costs less FP than vestiges. It only does slightly less damage on a direct hit, but will do more damage thanks to the secondary lava effect and has a larger AoE as well as more range and a better cast animation.

Vestiges is virtually useless in pvp due to its lack of an AoE and terrible manual-aim control. It both casts and flies too slowly to be used the way you would have used forbidden sun in DaS2. In pve, Chaos Orb will always deal more damage, faster at a higher FP efficiency thanks to the lava damage. It can also be manually aimed to throw much farther, while vestiges has a limited trajectory and hardcapped range.

Estus wasn't instant in DaS2. I went back to finish OIK DLC a few days ago, and I couldn't get used to the difference in recovery speed: it generally takes 3-5 seconds.
Roll spam was bad in DaS2, but it's somehow worse in DaS3, and that's before taking the Blood ring into account.
Metafaggotry will always be shit, so that's not a real complaint.

Go play Ds1 and see how fast the estus chug is, it's insane that it's as fast as it currently is and the best you can do to punish it is maybe land one attack before they roll spam away since you know rolls don't have any fucking recovery time on them

And DaS3's is just as bad, except they can drink and roll away immediately, so you can't punish it. The universal two-hit stun means that, even if you do hit them, they're free. Same with buffing: about an hour ago, I saw a guy get hit as he started buffing, and he rolled away with the buff having gone through. It's literally fucking instant.
