It's possible but the thing is is that literally every game can be won with smart drafting

So it's not so much that the game is unwinnable it's that the guy blew a chance to grab a better hero and make the match a million times easier

I was stuck in bronze for a while, until I went on a big winstreak that was pretty much completley centered around smart drafting. Comp is a HUGE part of HoTS.

Easy: LiMing. Throw damage at them from behind your team and watch the snowball roll. Problem: If your team can't do anything then you'll spend the game running away.

Hard: Kael. He's a more extreme LiMing. You have to know what fights you can win and skills take slightly more thought. He can't get out of a bad situation as easy, but he can delete almost anyone.

If you have a friend to play with: Diablo. You can grab and bump and be a huge asshole to deal with while your friend kills who ever you grabbed and trapped. Great combo options with Apoc. His downside is that as a solo tank he can get focused down sort of easily.

I have a certain talent build I go with 99% of the time but there's fun to be had with several of his talents, especially vorpal blade.

So, as a casual HotS gamer, I have a question. How well does this game do currently? Is it doing well, or is it hanging by it's threads? Judging by the updates, it seems to be doing okay, but wherever I go, nobody seems to play it. I started to play it because my real life mates were into it, but they all gave up like two or three months after starting. So, realistically, does this game have a way to stay alive as some other MOBA-s, or will Blizzard abandon it, if it does not prove profitable?

I can see why people like and disliek it. For me, the greatest factor for liking it is the heroes, both for nostalgic reasons and for originality reasons (things like Vikings, Cho'gath and the like are very unique) and the various battlegrounds. The reasons for disliking it would be that it is kind of dull. There are no real surprises, no specially differing tactics or some such.

the main reason hots isn't as successful as lol or dota2 is the very same reason that kills every mmorpg released after wow.
there's a many years long leadership in the genre, people have invested too much (both time and cash) in these games and is just too used to their mechanisms to even try something else.
ad when they do they can complain because "X is too different so what's the point" (example: hots' lack of items) or " X is the same shit as Y, a game i've played for years, so why should I switch to it?" (example: it still has minions, lanes and a core to kill).

hots will never ever be as successful as lol, deal with it.
but it doesn't make it a bad game. I personally hate lol (i'm not dumping 40-60 minutes into a game that probably will be full of shitters/tryhards throwing shit at each other) and, on the paper, I won't like dota2 either.
hots is fast, somewhat intense, has a lot of chars that bring out the good old nostalgia (well, if I try to remove my "modern blizzard" and "fucking metzen ruins everything" hate) and the shared exp, the true mixed blessing of this game.
