I genuinely can't tell because I only really play BLM and can't see what other classes are doing. I just did antitower today and I think the DRG never used his blue dragon thing and it felt like we were going on forever.

I mean you don't really need to be the best at your class or play them at their maximum potential, but if you're going expert roulette at least understand what abilities you got on your way to 60. The only exception that I know of is freeze for BLMs which genuinely has no reason outside of pvp to exist, even though I wish it did. Right? Please tell me if there's some use for it outside of one boss fight, I kind of want to use it.

Please educate your fellow players if they suck at a class you know how to play, because eventually I might end up in a party with them.

You'll likely feel like a shitter, but do a few dungeons without going into cleric stance until you get the basics. Once you're comfortable just healing, pop into CS every now and then when the tank is on high health and go back once he's low.
From there you'll learn to optimize and after like ten dungeons total you'll be better than the DF average.

The learning curve on WHM is significantly simpler, but if you've already levelled as SCH might as well stick with it.

Simple and easy aren't the same thing.

Leaving regen on the tank, going on CS, casting aero and spamming stone with real straight forwards cooldowns is simpler than managing the pet, aetherflow stacks, multiple performance improving cooldowns and learning about proper shield use while damage involves three separate DoTs from an early level.
It's easier to leave all 90% of the healing for the fairy, sure, but it sure as shit aint simpler.

As far as DPS goes Bard and Ninja are probably your best bet, but have you looked into healer jobs? SCH and AST are pretty great if you want to keep everyone safe and also improve their performance.
I myself like healing for almost the same reasons you like Paladin, and after fucking about with every DPS job and feeling no real connection to any of them I decided to try PLD and fucking loved it. They play completely differently but the feeling of doing your job well has a similar flavour.

I spent my early THM levels casting sleep on everything before attacking the tank's main target until I learned my job was to aoe all day. I even had fire II out of my crossbar once because I figured the damage was worse, and then met a BLM at dusk vigil many months later who still did this. To someone out there, *I* was the shitter once. The difference is that some are never given a reason to get better because content to level 60 is kinda piss-easy that you can get away with it.

SCH is pretty easy to learn but some people love to put it on a pedestal of hardness that doesn't exist. It's true that WHM is pretty straightforward but SCH isn't any different.

While the pet is indeed harder to manage since you have to literally move twice, fey wind (and caress sometimes) aren't "multiple performance improving cooldowns", aether stacks are as easy to manage as sos and LA, SCH isn't the only class with 3+ dots to manage and precasting is something every healer should know.

Compared to SMN which i almost need a piano to play, SCH is a joke.

No, stacks are just a ton easier on SCH than SMN. On SCH you're dealing with Aetherflow and Aethertrail, and you want the timing to overlap, but you have to know when a break in the fight is going to come so you don't lose your AT stacks. It's nowhere near rocket science but you do have to think about it until it becomes second-nature.

On SCH it's as simple as "Do I need a stack for Lustrate/Indom -> Should I use a stack on Bane -> Burn any remaining stacks on Energy Drain when Aetherflow has <5-10s left on cooldown".
