Does Mushi have slowdown or is my framerate dropping?

Also, what is the difference between different Mushihimesamas? What order does it makes the most sense to play them in?
>>
>>143669342
Yes it does

Play mushihimetama first
>>
>>143669342
Yes, Mushi has slowdown. All Cave games (aside from Dangun Feveron, to my knowledge) have slowdown when the screen gets filled; the slowdown is one of their main gimmicks alongside relatively complex scoring systems.

Generally, 1.5 will be a bit easier to play unless you're playing 1.5 MAX. The Arrange mode is very similar to normal maniac, but you start out much stronger than you can get in normal, you can switch between M, W, and S as you wish, and it has (an easier version of) the true last boss from normal ultra. In arrange, you will also autobomb if you are hit with bombs in stock, but the autobomb will use all of your bombs.

Fuck Cave for making games that only superplayers can play.
>>
I heard DOJWL has bigger hitboxes than DOJBL, is this true?
>>
>>143735620
I played it. Of the three twinstick/roguelites I've played extensively it's easily the worst, for the simple reason that the random number generation can truly screw you over and make the game not only harder than it should be, but also the worst kind of hard: the absolutely boring kind. In Isaac, you're guaranteed at least 1 item before you reach a boss, and most characters can hold their own until the snowball effect carries the run through to the end. In Nuclear Throne, you are guaranteed to find 2-3 weapons you fight a boss, and your character has a unique ability to boot. In Gungeon, you're not guaranteed shit until after the first boss, the only character that starts with anything actually noteworthy is a secret character, and if you don't find something decent by the 3rd or 4th floor, most enemies will soak up what you throw at them thus making each room a slog.

>>143736579
Mate, calling me a superplayer is an insult to everyone that's even slightly better than me, probably even including yourself.

>>143736941
The hitboxes didn't feel much bigger when I played around with it, but I don't have nearly the time in WL as I do in BL.

>Fuck Cave for making games that only superplayers can play.
I wouldn't say they make games only superplayers can play, but they make games where you need to be a superplayer to get a remotely decent score.

I personally dislike this, because if I play a game I always try to play for score, but if I know I will end up with a pathetic score anyway, or just have to practice until infinity, then it makes not wanting to play the game anymore.
>>
>>143738786
Plus, scoring mechanics, even though they are mostly optional, are a huge part of the gameplay of a game, and when the scoring mechanics are so unintuitive and difficult that only superplayers can somewhat handle them, then the whole gameplay feels wrong, because you just constantly have the feeling as if you make everything false.

Survival run? Remember these areas and consider to use planned bomb on your route. You can do it anon!
>>
>>143739056
>>143738786
Agree. In a lot of shmups, it seems that there's either:
First 1cc score
or
near WR superplayer score
Few people seem to care about anything inbetween. Or in some chaining stg, you really can't get anything inbetween due to the scoring system. It's nice to be able to add on low-medium level scoring to your route without having to go full autism in a game.

You could just play only one game and focus on scoring that forever, but playing some other games occasionally to take a break is nice.
>>
>>143749715
Even though my scoring is still pathetic compared to top-players, I wouldn't call it a survival run. However, stage 3 is just the hardest stage I ever had to play through in a game. Even battel gaergga is just a cakewalk compared it... It's pretty ridiculous imo. The game just throws as much shit as possible at you.
>>
>>143749917
>Or in some chaining stg, you really can't get anything inbetween due to the scoring system
You can in many games, but what I dislike are games like Ketsui for example, where getting maximum score is just almost impossible.

You just constantly feel as if you do everything wrong because you hardly can max out your score the whole time, except your are a complete pro perhaps
>>
>>143750651
>Ketsui for example, where getting maximum score is just almost impossible.
Explain please.
>>
>>143751427
Well, in Ketsui it is really difficult to constantly point-blank the enemies to get a 5 multiplier for your chain. Especially from stage 3 onwards it just becomes ridiculously difficult to do this mostly. So you just always end up getting 3s or 4s and it just feel stupid. You just constantly feel as if you play the whole game wrong, although you are not even that bad.

The skill ceiling in many games is just so high, that "normal" players hardly can really enjoy the game anymore, imo.
>>
>>143751684
Also, not even to mention getting the Ura loop which is just ridiculously difficult. I like hard games, but shit like this is already too difficult imo.
>>
>>143751684
>Especially from stage 3 onwards it just becomes ridiculously difficult to do this mostly. So you just always end up getting 3s or 4s and it just feel stupid. You just constantly feel as if you play the whole game wrong, although you are not even that bad.

That's bullshit though Ketsui is all about routing and stage 3 and 4 are not that hard at all to develop profitable routing alot of which comes from knowing when to switch shots and constantly remembering whats coming next. At WR level the real difficulties of Ketsui are surviving with as much resources possible when you clear and learning/executing the empty lock trick. Remeber you are only needing to point blank at sporadic times to begin chains and not constantly to maintain them so you shouldn't be point blanking everything by a long shot.. Just in case you are mad cunt kraut I can almost 2-all the game before you have a rage wank about telling you what to do and not knowing what im on about etc.
>>
>>143752082
Yes, I know, on 4chan everyone is a pro at everything, but normal players like me, just find games like this too hard. Not everyone can be a pro like you.

Also, one of the difficult things in Ketsui is also to actualy keep your chain alive, and not just instead using the spread shot the whole time. That's also what I mean by difficult scoring mechanic. The scoring mechanics in Cave games have such high skill ceilings, that playing the games feel more wrong than right to me. Except you are a superplayer perhaps.
>>
>>143752082
>I can almost 2-all the game
Wow, you are sooo hardcore, respect!!!
>>
>>143752929
More poor comprehension from team sperg. I didn't say it was a great feat or even imply it i'm just saying to get that far into the game requires some knowledge of it and as kraut demands that before he drops a rage bomb it is essential to clarify. Feel free to keep being an insecure nerdling who is competitive over video games as an adult though, it's pretty funny you little bitch made super faggot.
>>
>>143752345

Not really, it only loops once and you meet TLB of the end of every 2nd loop. Hard rank basically drops you into 3rd loop.
There's also some secret that are accessible after defeting TLB and picking "continue".
>>
How do you go about 1ccing a game? Do you beat the game first with infinite credits in order to get a feel of the game first before learning how to 1cc or do you go straight to 1cc and playing the game over and over again until your first victory is a 1cc?
Also, what controller does everyone use?

So far, It looks like you need to reconsider your way of practicing IMO. Are you scoring or just going for the 1cc?
>>
>>143755616
Natural talent is a factor, but even for ridiculous players they first had to try hard for a long time in one or more games and usually play STGs for years prior to get there. Mentality, motivation, efficient practice methods, and such are also important.
>>
>>143760568
I just start playing it as if im going for the 1cc, at first just play and see how far you can get on a single credit and do that for a whilst until really big walls appear then maybe use credit feeding or utilize save states. The main thing is always play conciously what i mean is try to be aware of everything and memorise things and think about possible ways to go about each section. Eventually you can build a run and away you go.
>>

Credit feed a few times to get a feel for the length of the game and learn the basics, then drill the early stages, then credit feed a few more times, then drill the later stages, then credit feed a few more times, then drill what still gives me trouble. From there, make attempts at 1cc while still occasionally practicing stuff that gives you trouble, or that you don't see much of in your runs.

I use a stick, but it isn't mandatory for playing shmups, so you can use a keyboard, gamepad etc., as long as you feel comfortable with it.

1A. I'd say maybe 3 or 4. I've been better in the past but I've lost most of my skill for STGs aside from Deathsmiles.

1B. 6 or 7. I can react but I don't always react in the best ways...

1C. 5 or 6. Alright I guess. Not that good.

1D. I'd say about a 5. I can't bring myself to give any especially good ratings for playing ability.

1E. Dedicated, 4. Patient, 7.

2A. Since 2010 about.
2B. Deathsmiles. I like the aesthetics, I know the scoring system inside and out, and have fun with it. And Casper is my waifu.
2C. Generally, survival. Very rarely do I find a game to dedicate myself to doing scoring-oriented.
2D. EoSD Extra stage 327 million points with MarisaA, and Deathsmiles non-canyon 277 million points with Casper. The few times I've wound up playing for score. Also Touhou Lunatic clears of Lotus Land Story, Mystic Square and Mountain of Faith.
2E. Not every day, but when I do play, I usually wind up doing so for two or three hours.
2F. Break 300m with Casper in Deathsmiles, and one of the following: Learn to score with a different character in Deathsmiles, learn to do Canyon stage with Casper, or play a different game to some reasonable ability.
2G. My Deathsmiles PB has improved from 241m to 277m, which is quite a jump considering I had the 241m PB since 2014 prior to this year.

3A. Not particularly. I watch streams sometimes.
3B. No.
3C. Watching streams can be fun sometimes, but I don't often watch runs on Youtube or anything.
3D. It's cool. Streaming is fun.
3E. Not really.
3F. Not sure. Can't really say.

2A: knew about them as a kid, going for 1ccs in 2009, semi-serious and score goals since 2013
2B: I like a lot of games, not sure
2C: Scoring. but survival challenges can be fun for a change
2D: shit ancient scores in hellsinker, recently progress in games nobody plays(battle traverse, finalboss). Nothing great, I'm an idiot & don't focus on a game for more than a few months. No very difficult 1CCs
2E: 1-3 hours if I play that day.
2F: Progress in StellaVanity or some other game that's difficult enough to be out of comfort zone.
2G: 1 point on skill scale. Played a lot & got better pattern reading. Fully accustomed to stick helps execution.

3A: Yes
3B: shumpsfarm, twitter, watching streams
3C: Honestly dont watch replays often unless I'm currently interested in the game. But I appreciate high level play of most STG
3D: Glad it exists. Streaming adds a bigger sense of community & it can be more entertaining than replays
3E: not really but if I had to choose maybe ben.shinobi. western player who has WRs in a variety of games

I'm a newb but whatever let's do this shit

>Part 1 (Answer on a scale from 1 to 10. You may expand upon your answers):
>A) How good do you consider yourself as a STG/Touhou player?
3
>B) How good are your reflexes and reactions?
6
>C) How good is your bullet reading ability?
0, maybe 1 when the bullets are purple enough
>D) How good are you at controlling your movements?
4 most of the time, literal 9 when I'm focused enough and there's no delay
>E) How dedicated and patient are you as a player?
0, a single death usually ruins my mood and I get frustrated way too easily

>Part 2 (Answer freely):
>A) How long have you played STG's, or Touhou?
About 10 months (?), but not frequently
>B) Do you have a favorite game? Which is it? Why?
If I have to name one it would be the Gradius games, they have the best atmosphere and the music makes me wanna explore space.
>C) Do you prefer survival or scoring oriented play?
Survival. Scoring is fine too but it triggers my OCD really hard and it quickly becomes unfun.
>D) What are your greatest achievements? Why?
I beat Mushihimesama on Original. It's good enough, right?
>E) Give a rough assumption, how much do you play per day.
1 hour when I actually play but there has been weeks where I did not play at all.
>F) What are your goals for the rest of this year?
Get good and have fun
>G) How much have you improved during the past year?
Learned the basics so a lot.

>Part 3 (Answer freely):
>A) Do you keep track of what other people do with the games?
Nope
>B) Do you visit any STG or Touhou related communities other than /vg/? If so, which?
Nope but it could be fun
>C) Do you enjoy watching replays or videos of STG's and Touhou?
I like watching superplays or informative replays such as STGweekly.
>D) What do you think of livestreaming as entertainment and the STGrillz site?
People do what they like
>E) Do you have an idol? Why?
No
>F) Do you wish the Western Touhou/STG players discussed more with each other?
I wouldn't care

Part 2 (Answer freely):
A) About 4 months, only been trying to get good for just over 1 month though.
B) PCB because it's the first I cared about trying to get decent at. Will probably find another favourite STG as I get better/play more games
C) I'm still at the point where I have to play for survival however I find myself trying to score all the time so I feel I'd enjoy it once I get there.
D) PCB hard 1cc I guess
E) 1-2 hours
F) Currently trying to get good at RefRain, so more of that.
G) Infinitely I suppose, since I had never played a shmup until early this year.

Part 3 (Answer freely):
A) No
B) No
C) Yes, it's how I got into the genre
D) Fun
E) No

E) 2-3 hours i think
F) Just keep clearing games, the relatively hard ones i'm aiming so far are some Raiden games, Batrider advanced and Thunder Dragon II.
G) I've improved decently, i remember Psikyo games being kinda unforgiving even to 1-all months ago, but revisiting some of the easier ones i 1-all'd in 1 or 2 days.

1A: 4
1B: 3
1C: 5
1D: 4
1E: 3

2A: Less than a year
2B: Apparently Double Spoiler because that's what I play on most days, but I don't see myself as a true player of that game.
2C: Whatever's fun. Ideally I'd play for score everywhere but I don't have quick wits or a high enough intelligence either way, so usually I go for something I can understand, such as survival play...
2D: On a global scale none, and who cares about small personal deeds?
2E: 1-2 hours lately...
2F: Finish up what I want to do in DS, then absolutely whatever, possibly even quit shmups, though I'll likely always play them in some capacity--it's fun if you aren't being suicidal in the sense that Gus applies to this word.
2G: I think I have steadily improved but I'm not sure how much of that is getting used to the new hand and how near the ceiling is (must be close, feels like all I can build up is mostly accuracy, some reading skills as well). I am a slow learner who can only learn in small steps and usually can't find out anything good on his own. The positive outlook would be that I can keep learning in very small increments all the way up to godhood, but does that really work like that? I have observed many players being stuck.

3A: Seldom, only if we have something of a connection, or they tend to give a good show
3B: /vg/ is the 'comfiest'. I can go to irc, farm, other threads and forums, but I usually don't really care...
3C: They are exceptional for research purposes and can also be pretty good as entertainment but otherwise live streams are more fun
3D: The best
3E: Prom as always
3F: No comment
>>
>>143849084
he spent an eternity making it

maybe in 50 years he'll have made half as many games as cave
>>
>>143849091
how'd you get a new hand?
>>
>>143849475
It was always there, I just wasn't using it. Skills do NOT transfer between hands, maybe only slightly, but it's partially a hindrance because fingers are reversed yet the brain does not understand.
>>
>>143849589
Oh, and the hands, I think, will always feel kind of different. With my left I am barely aware of pressing the keys and more aware of movement, while with the right I am mostly aware of pressing the keys, and the movement that happens I perceive as the direct result of the intermediate action of pressing the keys.

The downside is that technical aspects like precise and specific tapping are harder to do with the left hand (because I need to focus on what I'm not focusing), and the right hand seems to require extra training for executing abstract maneuvers through coming to 'understand' key presses.

Also I feel that with the right hand, the pressure in my head (brain) is more evenly distributed, whereas with the left it's all in the left hemisphere.

So I caved and ordered a stick just yesterday; I want to see how it plays out.
>>
>>143849084
>How did Clover-TAC even manage to make a game like Crimzon Clover?
>I mean the guy isn't even a game developer
The evidence suggests otherwise, you don't have to go anywhere to learn to program if you are determined enough and with his play experience etc he was always going to be able to design levels fairly well so there you go.

Yooo, this is why playing Double Spoiler is such a struggle. Suppose this scene is easy as shit. It is. You only have to dodge slow and sparse lasers.

But now for my consistency. The first picture was practically stellar. Maximal value for the multipliers, maximal Risk Bonus, I just don't see it getting much higher than that, it's really good enough for me.

But I can't just do it again... I can't fasten my mind onto the motions, I actually can't remember them anymore immediatelly after I've done them. Man, it's ugly to look at. If I didn't have this peculiarity with my brain, Double Spoiler would be over in a cinch. (as far as my current goals go, though I might just set them higher instead to have some fun)

Still fucking love this game though.
>>
>>143989309

>>

>>
>>143996981
Fuck off, /jp/.
>>
>>143999662
It's even funnier when people describe Ikaruga as a methodical masterpiece because of its puzzle elements.
>>
>>144000924
Well it is more methodical than more twitch based shooters for example.
>>
>>144001293
There's no such thing as a twitch-based shmup.

Every shmup requires memorizing all the possibilities, which eliminates twitch.
>>
>>144001574
There are shmups which require more twitch reflexes, and some which require less. Same goes for the memorization.
Cave shooters for example are often very twitch based and offer mostly a lot of possibilies to find solutions, while "memorizers" like R-Type or Ikaruga offer less solutions and therefor are more about memorization and execution than twitch. Cave also has more RnG which is another factor for twitch.
>>
>>144001937
Depends on the Cave shooter. Dodonpachi is extremely methodical, even moreso than R-Type, while something like Dangun Feveron is more twitchy.
>>
>>144002602
Dodonpachi also only becomes methodical when playing for score. You mostly have a shitton of possibilities there to find routes without chaining, while in games like Ikaruga or R-type you often only have a single solution.
>>
>>144002742
You can not play Ikaruga for score, too, and it's not very methodical that way. There's some level structures you have to learn, but not to the degree of R-Type.
>>
>>144003346
It's still more methodical than Cave and a lot of other shooters though.
Not to mention when playing on hard mode, where you basically have to memorize every enemy encounter from stage 3 onwards to survive each one of them.
>>
>>144000808
I too can't stand /jp/'s faggotry to an extent but those posts are absolutely welcome imo.

The extra lives are basically a cruel joke the devs play on the player, right? You have to no-miss the whole game or you're fucked?
>>
>>144012039
>You have to no-miss the whole game or you're fucked?
There is a checkpoint in the middle of stage 7 which is impossible to recover from my experience, but other than that everything is recoverable.

Usualy you just need to site bits to kill the end boss, but there is also a way to kill him by letting him time-out while dodging the blue balls with enough speed-ups. But this is really difficult, so yes, no-missing is the easier way. At least after stage 4 you should do it, since that's the stage where you still can get enough bits.

"Hi! I'm DKA, a Chinese STG player. DKA is short for DKARUGA, or "Dark Ikaruga". When I was young wanted to use Ikaruga as my internet username, because it was an impressive game, but it had already been taken, so I added the 'D' for 'Dark' to represent the game's colour changing system. Later I joined China's largest STG group, and decided I needed a signature similar to some Japanese super STG players (like SWY, TAC or ISO) so I finally settled on DKA.

I am not good at dodging bullets, so something like Touhou is hard for me. Instead I consider scoring strategy over survival or a 1 coin clear, meaning I'm used to restarting games over and over again. Stage 1 of Crimzon Clover World Ignition is definitely a good example of a game where I perform many restarts to try to achieve an optimum stage 1 score, as well as Zone P of DBACEX with the Second Silver Hawk. Additionally I really enjoy STG music, particularly Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga, DBACEX and Raiden V. I hope one day I can form a small band to play this type of game music.

Already proven bullshit.

Thanks, stick in lap works best.

My verdict on playing Touhou with a Sanwa JLF: Don't do it.

The deadzone is pretty bad. Even if I flick the joystick from side to side with as much speed as I can exert, there is a NOTICEABLE split second of the character standing still as the deadzone is engaged. I'm sure my execution can otherwise be improved, but this deadzone thing is irredeemable.

I guess you can play Crimzon Clover with it though, and pretty much anything Clover-TAC has mastered because he uses a Sanwa. But, Touhou is just harder.

Yes, good grazing takes a lot skill. Some supergrazes require precise movement and timing. Others may rely on good reading ability if there are RNG elements. You've claimed that Touhou scoring is both boring and takes no skill, but I'd say that good grazing is both entertaining to watch and requires a lot of skill to pull off.

Sounds like you're generalizing. I don't want to cherry-pick examples, but any WR level replay of 6, 7, or 8 will be replete with impressive grazing. How you can find all of that boring is beyond me. Especially 7 where you're required to graze unfocused.

2hufags are unique because they almost never venture outside that one series

Hell I've seen a lunatic player get bodied by mushi original of all things, because of the fact that you have to actually kill the enemies to eliminate them as threats, they don't just shoot once then fuck off like generic 2hu fairies.

Einhander is good.

KanColle creators don't allow fangames because they know any decent fangame would be better than their main game. So highly unlikely.

No although I'm not a fan of touhou outside of maybe PCB which i enjoyed a bit but in terms of score i've never played one that way and never had much interest either. They have there place though and that's fine, the fans however are definitely not my scene.

>>
>>144151042
that is because touhou learn the player horrible habits that are fatal when you play other shmups. Look at the tiny sprites, the millions of ressources. Touhou is the last thing a shmup player should play, it isn't a bad series i still enjoy playing these games but the level design is verry inconsistent the best level i played were on IN and UFO . It's a shame ZUN doesn't know how to make fun dynamic and challenging levels in twenty years of experience

>>144151042
You're talking shit out of your mouth. Touhou players play a variety of shmups just fine. Sure the secondaries don't really venture outside of it but to be fair no one cares about them within the player community either. There are also some real players who don't venture outside of the series but guess what, preferences exist, and Touhou is unique enough to warrant developing a specific preference for it. Similar examples can be found within CAVE fans, sometimes actually with forays into Touhou but otherwise preferring CAVE. Basically fuck off.
>>
>>144189920
Yes, Cavefags are very similar to touhoufags. They also often play nothing but Cave.
>>
touhou is harder
>>
is it impossible to discuss something earnestly on this board? like how about earnestly talking about the merits or faults of a specific game?

of course someone who only plays touhou might find other styles of shmups difficult at first. it goes the other way around too. if you're not used to touhou, you're going to suck at it, badly.
>>
>>144190029
