typically it's better to pick out a nice hat with an okay effect than it is to get a good effect on a shitty hat
I usually try to go for hats I'd wear even they didn't have an unusual effect on them, then to get a low-tier but noticeable effect with it.

Any effect not in Regret or Fecal is worth wearing, but really it depends on the hat as to whether or not you look plebtastic.
You mostly want to stay away from robo-hats, but a couple of them work well in sets. If your unusual and the rest of your gear mesh you're already ahead of the game. If the hat you buy is paintable it's easier to colormatch it into a set.

No, L&W LnL wasn't acceptable. 125 damage pills was unacceptable when you already had to land directs to deal damage, and the increased projectile speed made it EASIER to do that. You lost one form of area control (rollers) and gained a much more broken type (turn corner and get gibbed). DH rockets don't even instakill without rampup, and even then most rocket damage came from splash anyways, making the tradeoff much more considerable.
That's not to say the DH isn't incredibly gay either, but the LnL was unacceptable.

Figured out the proper sox settings:

Turns out that SoX is fucking broken and outputs unsigned integer encoding in little-endian when you tell it signed-integer and big-endian. It's still broken since it clips like mad, so I ended up converting to the proper format with ffmpeg first and then running the output through sox afterwards.
End result:

You mean salaries, and that's only after they are scouted to a team after having spent an untold number of years practicing with only the dream of the small chance at getting into a team.
And plenty of sports clubs around the country have people playing without money for only the sake of playing. These guys are the ones who get scouted to play in national / international tier competitions.
Your problem is doing something for the money, not for the prospect of gitting gud.
When you get into a sport (or an "e-sport"), you do it because you love the game and think you can be one of the very best at your skill level or better. Not because it pays the bills. Only the best and lucky ones get to pay the bills with sports. Otherwise they're some welfare check NEET running around on the field 12 hours a day.
