Just started, this is my first Total War game, but god damn I love warhammer not to have got it.

Was going to do first play through as Dwarves on normal, VC on hard, then Empire or Orcs on Legend.

Are there any notable differences between the Lords, or is it mostly just a choice of "This guy is a melee badass, this guy is a supportive badass, this guy is a badass with a pointy hat"?

And any general advice? Still getting used to just the movement. Not used to having to move each unit individually to get the best out of them.

It's good. Make the fights last long enough to be enjoyable, but they don't drag on like in Radious. The only negative change, imo, is to zombies. They're just too fucking slow in this mod. Otherwise, yeah, would recommend.

Well, my Empire campaign is done.

I really could probably get one of the victory conditions but it would essentially be me sending Panzergruppe Feuerbach(Retaining the name in remembrance, Vampire Cunts assassinated him) everywhere to clean up rebels and the last of the vamps. In other words, really unexciting and boring.

So what did I learn from this campaign? Steam tanks are overpowered as fuck and all you need to win the game.

Playing WHTW is making me want to go back and play one of the earlier games instead. I miss things like family trees and wish they had included them even if they were just for comedic effect in the case of orcs and the "X's Chosen" for the Chaos or something. It's part of why I really like the Dwarfs, the grudges give me something tangible for roleplaying and hunting down those who wrong me. It's hard for me to care about things like that if I'm playing VC or Chaos because their units are expendable.

Unit balance issues aside, Magic is actually broken garbage right now, and some spells don't even work right.

Fate of Bjuna for example will cast ON THE CATAPULTS and not on the crews. Like, some of it is actually retarded.

Spend all those winds and.... you watch your spell do 5% damage to some pieces of wood instead of kill the people. Nice.

I don't want to make him a solid spell caster since he's not Kemmler, but it just feels like his combat skills are shitty after the joy of playing Archaon.

Spirit leech or whatever is OP and literally 2-shot the enemy hero on Ultra Unit size, but there's no direct way to change its damage or anything so I dunno where to go with him.

Is investing in battle skills worth it? I have yet to play a hero who I've gone with a red skill tree.

It's pathetic honestly because the Greatsword stats even after the Anti-Infantry bonus is calculated are WAY worse.

Greatswords have armor piercing so it makes you think that's why they win, but they inconsistently 1v1/almost 1v1 Chosen Greatweapons too.

I think the thing I like most about this game is that the early game doesn't feel like your military is nothing but a bunch of peasants with sharp sticks and a wooden board for a shield.

Even the spearmen actually look nice. Obviously this is due to everything being based off of a tabletop model, but it goes to show you that CA needs to hire a better character designer. The units feel interesting, even if they are technically just a bunch of spearmen.

Do I need to move my agents inside of enemy provinces to give them corruption or do I need to actually target their buildings?

And to be honest, let's remember how weird E:TW's map got. I would like to see more than just the five factions we have - especially fucking Lizardmen vs. Skaven fights - but you run into limitations pretty quickly.

First of which is that what is happening in Lustria isn't really relevant to the Empire; and honestly the Empire has enough problems with Chaos. European style colonialism would be absurd, especially if the Aztecs are the descendants of fucking Old Ones.

All that said, I would like to see some sort of interplay between the separate campaigns, and some additions to the existing campaigns as well.

For example, let's say the next expansion is revolves around elves, just as a hypothetical. The "Old World" map gets a Wood Elf faction, and a bunch of new quests and diplomacy options in the vein of the European powers in Fall of the Samurai. Maybe a trading outpost or two.

And the elf oriented campaign gets a bunch of empire shit, potentially even "go help the empire" shit.

And when Skaven come around, those fuckers need to be everywhere. Possibly as a late-game menace for the dwarves, haunting the underway.

Every named character (Lords, LLs, and heroes) you have in a province adds to its vampiric corruption growth. Don't even have to deploy heroes, they just have to be in it.

I played as aggressive as my economy would allow and expanded into Ork territory to cripple them. Worked great until turn 17 when suddenly Ork armies started appearing from fucking thin-air all over the place and took every settlement back from me. This shit cannot be done unless you get insanely lucky and another AI faction attacks the Orks. But as it stands the Orks have a massive fucking hatred for the PC so they almost exclusively attack the PC.

It's also fucking insane that the Orks will ally rapidly while all the Dwarf AI are blindingly retarded and will decline nearly any agreement.

I'm going to pull numbers out of my ass because I don't know them for sure and im at work, but he means artillery does a flat amount and that's shit.

For example. Unit size small, 60 dorfs. 20 dorfs in front throw charges, each charge does... 35 damage. Unit size total health is only like 2400. This does 600 damage, destroys 1/4th of the unit. Good shit.

Unit size ultra. 100 dorfs. 20 dorfs throw charges, each do 35 damage. Unit size health is now 6500. 600 damage is now only 1/10th of the unit's health, you probably only killed like 10 dudes.

This is the same deal with magic. Fireball does like 350 damage, 500 double cast.

Arcahon on Ultra has 7500 hp, Arcahon on small has like 2500 hp with the same amount of skills/wargear/upgrade. Fireball damage is still 350/500.

On turn 24 of a Legendary campaign. Formed a non-aggression pact with Middenheim and then consolidated Reikland. Saw that one of Bastonne's towns across the way was in ruins so I went to claim it. Fought off a Bordeaux army that claimed it first, then Parraton warred me. Now they're both wiped out, thanks to several lucky battles in which I had fortunate placement of ally/enemy reinforcements.

Everyone hates me due to Great Power -20 relation. Estalia has blobbed to the South and hates me. Middenheim and Marienburg hate me. The other Brettonia factions hate me. The only people that don't are the dwarves.

I can only afford one army still. Should I continue smashing the remaining Brettonia factions? I feel like the hammer is going to fall on me any turn.

Chaos - Some Monstrous units pretty good, infantry underpowered, magic garbage except for buffs/debuffs

Dwarves - Ranged units don't do as much damage as you would expect, some artillery is decent, Hammerers and Iron Breakers are good, satchel charges actually suck, Gyrocopters garbage

VC - Generally garbage units, Vampire Lords very weak even though stats don't indicate it, magic sucks but they have one or two non-stat spells that actually work, Fate of Bjuna cast on artillery casts on the artillery pieces not the crew so it blows at that, all monsters really weak in comparison but the Terrorgeist is okay if cheesing but still dies easy

Empire - Demigryphs will beat anything 1v1 including monstrous units even without halberds, Demigryphs don't care about spear bonuses at all and will wreck/pull out of spears without any issue, Greatswords will 1v1 any infantry without issue even though they seemingly have worse stats, only having an issue with GW Chosen where they randomly either win or lose barely, Witch Hunters get to cast the equivalent of a Lore of Death spell for free, easily the best faction by far

Greenskins - Most units are actually okay ironically because you'd think a lot of their units would be shit, Savage Orc variants are just better versions which is also kind of counter-intuitive, Spider Riders are pretty good, Arachnarok is pretty good, honestly I feel like they're the most balanced faction

It helps me with muh roleplay, which is something I think this game needs because campaigns inevitably turn into snowballing into an unstoppable force or autoresolving 90% of fights. Having more RPG elements and strategy options helps to give you something more to do, especially in older games where you may be fighting a faction with almost the exact same units as you.

So I just started my first campaign as the VC's on Hard and by turn 20 I had East and West Sylvania.

I enjoy the units they use and Varghulfs are so much fun, but it feels like it's hard to make money because the income buildings seem to be kind of shit unless you can trade but nobody liked me because I'm a spooky vampire.

It also felt like I spent a lot of turns doing nothing, while waiting to corrupt neighboring cities.

Its an easy seige actually. They usually have a stack + garrison so you can seige with one 20/20 army. They will sally out to attack you but the map you fight on is a giant hill in your favour. Then you can just autoresolve the seige and take it next turn. Just bring like 5 crossbowmen and a wizowd

They are for when you just need a melee unit, there is no point in paying the extra upkeep for a shielded spear man. Most of my kills come from my crossbows, cavalry, franz and sometimes swordsmen in long battles. Like, the magic is cool and the Wyvern that you get is dank as fuck but with magic being really fucky when using larger unit sizes, I think that Azhag would just be a flat out worse combat unit compared to the absolute monster that is THE ONE TRUE GIT.

Vampire counts have varghulfs, which like to toss around infantry like ragdolls.

But that's like the only good unit the counts have, apart from the terrorgheist but those don't have the infantry smashing effect.

Everything else is pretty ass, and varghulfs come at the price of needing to be babysat by a lord.

Sigvald is the weakest of the three. Archaeon is an amazing fighter who can also use magic. Kholek is a 900 foot tall dragon ogre horse man who will kill 50 people with one attack and call lightning bolts down on people.

With the Chaos you have no buildings. Your armies are their own settlements. You go into Encamp stance and it lets you make buildings and units. When you defeat a settlement you can sack it for cash money, or raze it to grow your Horde. Growing your horde basically gives you food for a population surplus to upgrade your buildings.

If you attack specific tribes you can also awaken them which makes them fight for you but they're generally shit. I believe that awakening four of them gets you Sigvald though.

After playing 2 Dwarf campaigns I can say pretty categorically that Dwarf units as a whole are fairly below average. There are a few exceptions, but most of the 'cool' ones are pure gimmick and awful.

Iron Drakes and Gyros are both pretty shit in all flavors. They're cool to use but the damage is awful.

Longbeards, Quarrelers, Thunderers are all solidly average for early game. They'll be your entire force composition sans arty for like 80 turns, so I hope you like them.

You have decent Artillery, but artillery on the whole is kind of suck right now so it's not that big of a deal. You can make it work but it's not going to be optimal. The best thing to be said about Dwarf artillery is that if you make it in Mount Gunbad with the unique building it comes out at 6exp. Empire still does arty better than you however.

The LLs suck. Thorgrim is mid tier melee with a passable faction bonus, Ungrim is mid-high tier melee (but can't compare with the real top tier LLs) with a total garbage faction bonus because Slayers are shite and melt faster than ice cream in the Badlands.

The main saving grace of the Dwarf lineup is the Ironbreaker, which is a fantastic GOAT unit for frontlining. Hammerers are alright but too slow to be much use for flanking, so you're better off with more Ironbreakers. They are the greatest motherfuckers that ever fucked mothers.

Legitimately atrocious. It uses Lords/Heroes and monsters to soak all of the potential damage, and seeing as VC monsters all suck, you randomly lose heroes and Vargulfs and Mannfred will have 1hp every single time

Any advice for starting as greenskins? I just bought today and wanted to start with orcs, went Azhag for funsies.

I understand growth is key to starting out for any faction but how do you guys manage to not get tech locked?

Getting to the tinker workshop while on very hard is almost impossible.

I think I shot myself in the foot by not making wolf riders and stuff and trying to make a $$ building instead.

Now I am behind in land, tech and growth and the Bloody spears, and my natural enemy at the start own a lot of stuff.

Trouble is, when I look north, red fangs eat me but when I look south the dwarves (who are regionally strong) come a knocking.

The dogs are way worse. They're small enough that they can run through your melee formations and attack your crossbowmen, which keeps your crossbowmen from killing the marauders and horsemen for you. And the dogs are pretty good fighters too. Every battle there's a unit of the poison ones with over 100 kills. And Chaos never brings less than 5 units of them so you'll never have enough guys to keep them from outflanking you.

Observation and testing. Armor and weapon damage are 95% of what decides the outcome of a fight.

You can go slam Greatswords Into a Chosen with a friend right now and even though the Chosen has WAY higher stats it'll get shit on pretty easily. The anti infantry buff only adds 10 weapon damage, it's not giving them huge attack or defense bonuses so they aren't even close to the Chosen in attack or defense, but the deal the damage just the same.

You'd think the Chosen could stave off a lot of their hits since they're much more elite troops, but that doesn't actually matter in this game.

It's very strange.

I cant help myself auto resolving end game, i have an army that will destroy anything and the balance is always like 90%.

I do most sieges and land battles, but after a while it gets tedious fighting a 6 man garrison with your full banner of chosen and shagoths.

I spent first 100 turns fighting every battle, now it just feel like it takes forever. And i lose like 20 men a battle.

Even when i sieged altdorf i lost 86 men, and i am playing on hard.

Im having trouble justifying archers. All my battle reports will rarely show em breaking double figures. Only the odd dwarf kiting maneuver ever proves their worth.

Battles go way too quickly for them to make a consistent difference. Especially if they are taking up a slot of a more effective unit.

Rats are an offshoot of beastmen and subsequently have their own chaos god, the elven pantheon had their god of war ruin everything for everyone and let chaos in in the first place, also dark elves have slaaneshi cults in all but name and I think high elves have them to it's just they're much better about purging them out when they find them, while the dark elves have a queen, that up until ET retconned it, worshiped slaanesh. Goblins fall under the purview of orcs, lizards were the first race created by the old ones and so are fully aware of the chaos gods, plus the slann stamp out any worship of anything other than the old ones, Sotek being the exception that proves the rule it seems, ogres though incomplete, were one of the last races to be created by the so were halflings the old ones in a last ditch effort to create the perfect race for fighting chaos, they fucked up and made the hungry hungry hippos we know and love today.

Right now I'm slowly reclaiming Kislevian lands while one of my armies keeps eye on Archaon that's sitting alone locked on the verge of Greenskin controlled mountains (they're too busy rebuilding and fighting dorfs to deal with him), to far to get him without much attrition but with no resources to do any damage.

Considering how I did not even invest in diplomatic research bonuses and all alliances were anyway proposed to me I fully suspect to be crowned Emperor anytime now.
