They all have some nice stuff. Bright wizards are somewha weaker because damage spells are currenly UP when playing at large or ultra unit sizes.

Celestials and Light wiards both have some great buffs and hexes though, though Light wizards need to get a fair few levels before they really get good. Then they're crazy however - Pha's protection, timewarp, makign units unbreakable and snaring enemy units are all really good when you use them well. Nothing funnier than stopping a big cavalry charge dead in its tracks right before it hits your lines by throwing Net of Amtyok on the lead unit.

Holy shit Kholek does a lot of damage, well thats all the major combat lords, Only Kholek Suneater and Mannfred on an undead dragon manage to beat Grimgor. Archaon did by far the least damage of all the lords

Longbeards, quarrelers, and your choice of a couple arty are all I used in my campaign.

Many of the units have charge resistance, so check that. I know longbeards do. Bring 8 or so quarrelers and you will wreck most of the cav you face. 90% of the time the cav comes around your flank, so park 4 or so on each side, angled sideways compared to your front-line, with some infantry support. Cav will have a tough time hurting your infantry enough before dying.

Then your quarrelers can wreck whatever monstrous units have arrived.

I've found that the best way to play VC is to go very carefully and basically turtle for the first 50 turns or so, only attacking when you've got a weak, isolated target. Messing with the various minor Orc factions gives you some decent reputation with the Empire and Dwarfs, and you can usually get a NAP and maybe a trade deal with them eventually. After that keep turtling when Chaos decides to pop up, usually they'll go after the empire and won't bother you too much, so just ignore them even if they enter your land. Don't attack them unless they're really weak, and only fight defensive siege battles if you can help it. Empire and Chaos will cripple the fuck out of eachother and Chaos will leave many ruins behind, so once the war starts winding down (you may have to actually kill the last few Chaos guys yourself if Empire doesn't do it) you can peacefully colonise all the ruins and get ridiculous income, before thurning taht income into a real war machine and start wrecking some serious shit.

Empire, Chaos and VC

VC might take it since their units tar pit really well, and their cav is top teir. It also means you can field more cav since your infantry is cheap.

Empire cav is expensive, and you focus on crossbows more.

Chaos is the same, cav is expensive and so are your standard units.

I think what puts empire over the top is the outriders and pistoliers in addition to having great access to standard shock cavalry.

I think Brets could be competitive for that especially when the DLC comes in, when combined with mass peasant bows.

That card seems to be considerably worse than my 760. For reference, I can play on a mix of medium/high with no AA, large unit sizes (which seem to be the new normal unit size), and optional shit like ssao turned off.

Anon was asking in the last thread about spears without shields. Reason for not using shields was because they found out the hard way that they do fuck all against orks and beastmen most of the time. If I recall at blackfire pass the border princes of the time were the only ones to manage to hold the line the whole time because they used their spears like Pike's, finally getting pushed back when they gutted a troll and one of them hit a vein spraying it's acidic blood over their line. It's why many elite units ditched them in favor of either long range weapons or heavy crushing weapons that didn't require precise blows due to the tremendous strength if their opponents. It takes awhile to bleed to death where as no amount of willpower would make shattered bones and torn muscles move and its easy for multiple people to pin a giant in place with pikes and slice it up with short swords.

Also, I'm really disappointed about the lack of minor settlement maps. Those were some of my favorite battles in Attila, and Warhammer solved the tedium problem by making them almost always easy to autoresolve as long as you have a proper army of your own. If I go up against an Ork army I just deploy towards the very back of the field in a corner, set up ranks of ranged units and artillery. They can't flank since you're against the bounds of the map which forces the fuckers to basically charge at you and get shot to shit.

Yes it's a scrub way to beat the AI but I'm fucking sick of the Orks on my very hard campaign. If they're going to shit 3 stacks out every two turns, I'm going to play like a scrub.

It basically means not having access to the core factions of the other expansions/base game. There will only ever be one big, ever-increasing map with all factions on it.

So you'll be able to conquer the Empire/Altdorf as Tomb Keks but unless you bought the base game you can't play as Empire in the Grand Campaign or multiplayer or skirmish.

No, they're all about secrecy and biding their time until they have the strength and numbers to overwhelm the surface.

If they want to do Skaven, they'd probably have to create an underground campaign map, where Skaven would compete with Dwarfs and Goblins. They'd only try to take the surface later on.

I played a lot of Blood Bowl, and Dwarves are literally the "no fun allowed" race. They're too slow to really be good, but they just grab the ball, huddle together in an invincible wall, and slowly trundle down the field hoping to make it to the end before halftime.

Do it. There's no missile units that are so dangerous as to warrant the reliance. Maybe Dorfs but they are more a concern of armor than ranged missiles. I'd only think shields would be essential vs high elves or wood elves and even then ehh.

Greatswords are just plain solid infantry against any kind of enemy infantry. And you can use arty, a halberdier or two as SWAT teams behind the lines, or demi griffs to deal with monstrous units

I've spent turn after turn hunting down these fucking remnants in the Chaos Wastes, my unit replenishment is ass, more than one army and my funds wane, only my LL is a decent commander, and the Empire somehow keeps affording 5 army expeditions into the Chaos Wastes which set me back like 10 turns.

Then when it comes to fighting I find myself either getting murdered basic frontline units our outflanked because all my units are so fucking slow. What are my strengths besides Giants?

Adding that I think there's no dancing around the fact that it'll be a weaker shitty faction and playing it will be about the challenge of mitigating that. Them being playable would be an option rather than an emphasis - I'd be more interested in them being the local auxilia for a chaos player. I haven't done chaos yet but I understand you can't replenish unless you are back in Norsca or the chaos wastes or encamped?

Them having a distraction makes a world of difference.

First campaign and they were still at war with me when Chaos came. Refused to give up.

Second campaign and after I smashed their shit in early as an ally of Stirland and made peace (Then annexxed Stirland) they were busy having to fight the greenskins and have even made a non aggression pact with me when Chaos came.

You could also try and make peace with them after really bloodding their nose.

I can't even figure out how to fucking counter this. The economy builds so fucking slow and only allows for (at max) two full stacks in the early game turns 1-70, yet the fucking AI can spawn new stacks out its fucking arse that are impossible to counter since the AI will just shit out another stack the instant you destroy one.
Fuck this game on the higher difficulty settings. It takes away any actual strategy and reduces the playthrough to "I hope they don't swarm this turn" which is essentially boiling down a successful VH run to nothing but luck that the fucking AI doesn't decide to gave a hate-boner for the PC on that given turn.

I have literally watched Ork stacks ignore multiple enemy settlements just to run over to my land, for no reason other than "FUCK U ORKS HORDE LOL". Also stop calling a fucking WAAAGH! every 9 turns. Fuck, Yes I'm mad. This shit is impossible unless you get lucky or the other AI decides to fucking attack something every now and again.

I had the samue issue, I was at turn 200 and had only 1 army that i could barely manage to keep paid and my second army was 20 marauders because the growth is so shit.

If youre inside a zone with high chaos corruption it reinforces you really fast.

I think the only thing you can do is spec your Lord into Horde growth and get growth going early on, max the mainbuilding first and rush for the normal chaos warriors.

I've tried to take Marlenburg twice, both times I won but with barely any survivors and the bar was almost fully in the AI's favor.

The big orc charge directly into my line and is squaring off with King Ungrim while my own reinforcements bring up the rear, intended to slam into the back of Grimgor and Azhag's forces.

My dwarves were stockier than I'd thought, and held out well against the numerically superior greenskin force. While Azhag's men are broken by my reinforcements, my runepriest and Ungrim overcome Grimgor in personal combat, but only barely.

All of my other slayers bravely threw their lives away flanking the tougher orcs, breaking them in exchange for their lives.

I don't think they're bugged, comparing them to black knights they have 0 armour compared to 110 and 64 health each compared to 108. I don't know how armour reduces damage so I can't do the maths but I assume that the 75% damage reduction from ethereal works pretty much as effectively as the black knights' armour does, so you're left with a unit with nearly half as much health and the same defences.

Though obviously that ethereal bonus counts for a lot more against enemies with high armour penetration, so I wouldn't say hexwraiths are entirely useless without actually running numbers.

Princesses in Medieval 1 were great. Ninja's in Shogun 1 and 2 are basically mandatory for the game. Diplomats in Empire were probably the most well designed part of the strategic game.

Agents are great in their capacity to effect provinces and join the lord in battle, but the assassination game is very poorly done, if you want someone assassinated, force them in a battle and kill them with your lord or hero

Inherited this tactic from here when I asked for a sound strategy for Rome 2 and it works greatly for me in the Imperial campaign. Artillery, let it be crossbow men or mortars will rain fire down the enemy, making them rush to our position. They will get busy with the pike men while my swordsmen will flank them from its sides. And lastly, my cavalry will take care off any of their artillery units.

I do my best to avoid more then 20 unit battles.

Ctrl + G creates a formation group of your selected units, and selecting that group will let you move them and attack in formation. Note that TWW is the most chaotic Total Wat to date. No pun intended, the battles are literally mechanically chaotic.

I took the entire north and south mountains in the first few turns. I played super aggressively with the intention to cripple the Orks as early as I could. Things went pretty well until they just started shitting stacks out of thin-fucking-air. The AI in this game ignores any sense of economy and will walk around with triple or quadruple the amount of stacks they are economically capable of having...not to mention the 6-7 agent acts each turn which are successful 90% of the damn time.

I'm putting it down to bad luck and nothing more. In my VC VH campaign the Orks weren't even half as aggressive.

The problem with doing these things is though, it's great that it applies to multiplayer battles but in the campaign you get 1: Wargear, and 2: you can actually level up the character stat skills.

Besides paying for mounts I'm pretty sure all the heroes are baseline stats in character battles, which in the case of Archaon means he misses out on like 37% hp, 40% weapon damage, like 30 charge bonus, 30 armor and all this other shit which is what makes him an unstoppable slaughter machine in the campaign.

I know Grimgor can grab basically those exact same skills in a campaign setting, but it's kinda like comparing apples to sausage then you're trying to find what cooks better in a toaster.

Thanks for doing this though, that tells me that Kholek is the better choice for any MP battles I do. Kholek + a Fire Sorc seems better than just taking Archaon.

4 Demigryphs every single time that WILL NOT DIE TO BEING SURROUNDED BY SPEARS. What kind of fucked up Total War game has a Cavalry unit that will kill all of your Cav and half of the 3 spear units that are fighting with them at the same time? They pissed me off already, but watching them kill 3 of my Cav while being surrounded by spears made me give the fuck up on this shit game

I'm fucking done, the balance is so busted that it just isn't fun anymore, and it's only been a few days.

Greatswords being bullshit cost effective and shitting on any unit they touch including 50% more expensive Chosen units, Demigryphs having no counter and easily being worth 4000, Witch Hunters just cycling Accuse on any Hero or Lord that steps close to the battle, etc. etc. etc.

I've never actually seen such obvious negligence for game balance. This shit should have been instantly noticeable with even a small amount of playing. The first thing they should have noticed is "wow those Demigryphs are strong we should try out some counters in custom battle". "Oh they kill everything without even getting hurt"

Because Fireball is literally the only worthwhile spell in this game. It's like 7 mana for a double invocation which does like 500 damage in a line that also explodes. It's OP against heroes, single unit cards, and bunched up unit cards.

5 mana for default cast. Still does like 350 damage. Also is fire, meaning more damage against all regenerating monsters. Also more damage against like entire VC army.

Nigga that was just as unbalanced. Ikko Ikki's archers having like 50 range over literally every other archer along with more morale made them the go-to favorite of the cucks who played it and wanted to win.

If it wasn't Ikko-Ikki it was Chosokabe, because even though the single player INSANE buffs didn't apply the faction buffs still did.

Only like 5 factions got played and it was because they had the most OP shit.

God forbid even talking about Fall of the Shiturai MP campaign.

Fleshed out, not necesarily balanced. There were op strategies of course. especially in the clan conquest thing where veterancy carried over. But it had all those snazzy features which tend to get people playing.

Objectively the best. I still play it occasionally and I play a good bit of Medieval 2, too. Multiplayer.

This game needs a balance pass not just for multiplayer, but to make single player a better experience. I get it that some people like rolling over the planet with Demigryphs, but it isn't even fun playing against the AI when they have broken units. Knowing that my full army of Chaos Warriors is actually shit makes it not fun. Knowing that my Chosen actually will get shit on by Greatswords and plastered across the ground by AI Demigryphs isn't fun. Knowing that my 4 Black Knights with Barding will die to 2 AI Demigryphs without Halberds isn't fun. Knowing that my 3 Giants will get fucked by 2 non-halberd AI Demigryphs isn't fun.

The game needs work.

Does anyone else have a problem where their game starts to run really bad in high turn count? Im at turn 250ish with VC and it is getting so slow and laggy. Experiencing sound glitches and stuff and all that, pressing tab takes like 8 seconds or so. When I start a new campaign all of this goes away. It seems to almost be a memory leak or something because everything runs worse until a restart.
