Is there a good way of splitting up your fleet?

I want to remove all of a specific type of Corvettes.
Afaik, I have to scroll down, click it, see the list scroll to the top, then scroll down and click the next one.

I like the game, but the controls for it are just infuriating.

I thought civ5 was kinda clunky compared to earlier civ games.
Playing MoM on dos is smooth compared to this.

Make a race riot planet.
Maybe a tomb world if it doesn't have any wasteland to study.

Resettle pops you don't want over to that planet and hope that they die from the riots.

Or a bleak planet with a biome they don't like.
Oh, gene mod them so they don't like it then move them over there.

>>143509047
It sucks ass. In the vanilla game you could go for big planets to be a economic powerhouse, or go wide and thin for research. Now there's no reason to ever not just pile up planets as tall as possible, and anything that isn't 25-size is just plain garbage.

All Paradox did was dumb down the game because so many casuals were getting mad at being punished for uncontrolled pop-spam. Next they'll remove sectors too.
>>
>>143510104
It is heavy nerf for early research and expand but for middle and late game you got slight buff in speed because pop penalties are lower. Anyway everyone is affected by this so relative speed is the same.

Vette swarms are still effective against the AI since you can get more raw DPS out of them, the vettes just die easier now. Had a war with 2 alien powers that, on the surface, had better tech and more fleet power that me, beat my destroyers silly but I had enough vettes to out gun them, plus vettes are so cheap to build that I was able to pump them out much faster than they could, so that's also a solution to the Tall v. Wide issue, if you go wide you should just concentrate on fielding larger forces of cheaper vessels instead of a few powerful ships . Though in your case you might still be fucked since the AI is more likely to use PD now.
>>
>>143509060
>Damn the game looks pretty playable now. How is the new Sector AI?
Still retarded, but markedly less so, they actually respect the "redevelop" and "respect resources" buttons now, though they still have no idea what to do with all robot pops, though they are apparently more likely to place slave pops on appropriate tiles, they just won't make more slaves.
>>
Just got Stellaris, and I'm slightly overwhelmed. I'm playing as the Commonwealth of Man, and I want to turn half of the AI into my vassals and conquer the other half. Any tips? Things I should focus on during the early game (tile, ships, edicts, and such)? Is researching supposed to take a shitload of time?
>>
>>143510632
I'm not including the pop penalty, so if we include it and those 10 planets have 5 pops each (if they are over 10) that's 150% increase research cost.
>>
>>143510632
Earlier you can grab planets for picking recourse by space stations without much penalty. You can fill planets with one robot or start building labs as pops grow. Now you are instantly hit by 10% penalty for each planet.

> so that's also a solution to the Tall v. Wide issue, if you go wide you should just concentrate on fielding larger forces of cheaper vessels instead of a few powerful ships .
Ehhh, how so? You fleet resources are piled in one pool. It is not like developed planet could build battleship faster.

>everyone is affected by this so relative speed is the same.

>Ehhh, how so? You fleet resources are piled in one pool. It is not like developed planet could build battleship faster.
Wider empire has more access to minerals/energy than a smaller one, and Naval Capacity is based on pops and station both of which you have more of if you're wide. So you can just out produce and overwhelm a smaller more technologically advance empire, as long as you aren't really really far behind on tech, there should be no reason you shouldn't be able to beat a small tech based nation. In the example I gave I was running vettes with coilguns, deflectors, and tier 2 sensors and thrusters, one empire was running gauss guns, anitmatter missles, shields, and tier 3 everything else, and the other was running gamma lasers, armored torps, shields, and tier 3 everything else, in the initial fights their fleets had a 1-1.5k power advantage. Difference was my empire was about twice as big as each of theirs, so after the first fight when most of my DD got taken out, I just pumped out corvettes till I ground them down.

I just want to have a engineering bay + crew quarters starport on a frontier world, along with it having some extra firepower and defenses, is that too much to ask? It'd be even better if I could desig weapon/defensive modules for the starport.
The synchronized defenses module is just meh.

While I'm on this tangent, having starports be able to construct more than one ship at a time would be really fucking great.
Like, give us 5 modules; generic shipyards, and specialized corvette/destroyer/cruiser/battleship shipyards; each additional yard can construct an additional ship at once, but specialized yards get +25% production for their type, and -25% for everything else.

Likewise, put in something along the lines of a docking bay, that allows for quicker repairs/refits, along with having ships get repaired/refitted one at a time; something like 8 corvettes at a time, 4 destroyers, 2 cruisers, or 1 battleship at a time per dock would be neat.

TL;DR: Allow for highly specialized production starports, along with high specialized repair/refit starports, in addition to just making them a useful defensive measure (even more so than free-space fortresses)

>>143518694
Yeah, but it's utter shit with how weak starbases currently are; +25% isn't going to do much when they can already be taken down by a small picket fleet of fleet mass 20.

I really like this idea, but I think you'd have to limit the numbers of specialized starports you could build, maybe tie it to pops and capital building level, that way you could make them really powerful and make your home/core worlds more important.

>>143519597
The point is to let the startport itself be an extremely tough structure, anon, simply to provide a last (and extremely powerful) line of defense against smaller fleets, and making assaulting a properly fortified world even that much more difficult.

>Frankly, with the mineral investment of making starports that big in the first place, I don't think you need to limit it directly.
Resources are very rarely an issue once you hit the mid game, it's not uncommon to hit the cap on both energy and minerals with significant inflow on both, so making them expensive isn't really much of a deterrent. I think you'd have to hard cap it and/or make it a huge constant drain on resources or you'd run into the EU4/Vicky 2 problem of having forts fucking everywhere, making advancing into enemy territory tedious.

I've been trying III thrusters for some corvettes and IV for others.

Not really sure how the AI controls the ships in the battle though.

Thinking of just making things simpler and go Sentient AI, 1 point defense, rest torpedo on interceptor/striker core and then shields and max everything.

How do I leverage army strength?

>very strong
>fanatic militarist
>materialist
>despotic hegemony
I have these almost double strength super soldiers.

Will they always be useless without some overwhelming navy? I feel like armies are nearly irrelevant.
>>
>>143527726
You'll nearly always need boots on the ground unless you can blockade each and every one of their worlds, but those boots don't mean shit if you can't get them into orbit.

That being said, the ability to launch hardened drop pods from 100 range units away, outside of defensive measures, towards a planet for sneaky insertions would be pretty damn cool.
>>
>>143527726
If you position your jumps right you can sneak your armies in while the enemy fleet is fighting your own. Set one fleet to bombard the planet, have a second one in the system and set to aggressive so that it intercepts the enemy fleet and have your transports jump from the direction closest to the actual planet to maximize their chance of making it.
>>
>>143521548
ARE there bigger torpedoes?

I have the rank III ones, but I've had those for ages and no updates have appeared.
>>
>>143527726
An easier way than Very Strong is to find Earthbound presentients and uplifting them with Strong.

Both have +40% Army Damage.

Sadly there's no way to get Very Strong on presentients afaik. Maybe some Super gene events shenanigans.

Why Materialist btw?

I'm Materialist, but I got lucky with psionics and the psi warrior army attachment is the best I've seen.
Gene soldiers have a very high morale damage so works well for them.

Since you're militarist you can add the virtual arena planetary unique for extra army damage.

Maybe resilient, but not sure how that one works. If standing army with resilient adds to garrisson strength, or if the pops add to garrisson strength.
>>
>>143528106
Those are the bigger ones.
Been using those myself for 100 years.

Only recently started getting point defense and I plan to get some energy weapons to use as an alternative.
Hopefully energy torpedoes.

I did a Commonwealth of Meme run first just to get the purging out of my system. What time do galactic threats arrive? I have no Fallen Empires on this map to mess with and there is no point in having more fleets since I'm currently the biggest and baddest.
I've just been sitting back and researching, with spare energy going into terraforming and spare minerals into sectors.

There should be more dangerous technologies that just cause internal distress. If genetic enhancements alone causes new breeds of subhumans that xenophobes hate, you'd think psionics would flip there shit, Council of Nikaea-style

Out of your direct control maybe, but if you're delegating shit then you should be able to delegate shit in an intelligent manner and remove officers that have failed you.
You're already delegating things anyway, you're ordering constructions and stuff but the actual details of designing the buildings, getting materials and such are left to the chief architect. If the player doesn't get tired of telling people to build buildings, then Imperatrix Aetea Aevrea Maxima shouldn't either.

Don't want to deal with changing ethos ? Try :
>spiritualism
>collectivism
>theocratic oligarchy

with pop that have
>communal
>conformist

you'll have higher happiness and lower chances of ethics divergence. And you pick up the Ministry of Benevolence in the midgame, further reducing ethics divergence. I've been playing this for a week and have an empire of 400 some happy, loyal cultists who've never broken away from the mold, ever.
Just purge the xenos to remove any possible seed of dissent and you're good.
>>
So anyone know the loot from destroying Nomad ships? Or if they message you to stop?

>>
How do you deal with primitives you've infiltrated and annexed into your empire? These fuckers are really angry xenophobes who hate my guts. I could purge them but they're strong and agrarian, meaning they'd make excellent farmers for my arctic worlds. Should I just enslave them? I've never used slavery before and I'm not sure there's any real benefit to it since it makes them super unhappy.
>>
>>143535337

They legitimately won't ever be happy, if your own people are xenophobes and won't give a damn about the genocide it's best to just kill them. It may be helpful to only purge them one at a time if you aren't suffering happiness problems, this way they keep working the tile and you only have one idle tile.

They become part of your empire.
You will generally get a faction that demands 'make us independent again', all their pops will be unhappy for ten years or so, and they'll blow up their own buildings sometimes before they stop being unhappy.

If you're xenophile and democratic, just wait, you will simply culturally enrich them to be part of your empire.

Or just enslave/purge them and terraform their planets into something you want.

Why does the Parajew want me to sign up for an account on their forums so badly?

Sure, I buy their games all the time but we just aren't made for each other.

I'm an angry contrarian, If I somehow became active on their forums they'd hate me and I'd probably end up banned so I'm not even going to bother. So why do they keep trying to convince me to sign up for their account? If I was a pleasant and agreeable person who had something to add to their forums and wanted someone like minded to talk to I'd already have an account.

As it stands though I want to play my space game where I play a genocidal empire that purges all other life from the galaxy with extreme prejudice and their game lets me do that. How do people with big mods fucking do it?

I made this little mod that changed it so energy weapons were almost entirely blocked by shields (90-ish % minimum depending on the weapon, save disruptors which still get a bonus but now they have a penalty to armor) and kinetic weapons went right through shields but had less range and damage and are weak against armor, while explosive weapons have long ranges like energy weapons pass right through shields and are effective against armor but much slower reload rates since there was no way it seems to limit their ammo, ideally I wanted missiles and torpedoes to be limited and require returning to port to resupply after the fleets compliment and means to manufacture more has been exhausted, I also buffed all the point defense weapons making them more effective against missile swarms, so loading out a battleship with point defense is actually an effective way to prevent missiles. Also I changed it so each tier of weapons tech is more significant, range accuracy and reload all improve as tech improves and damage is more significant, and with that came the need to make shields and armor upgrades more significant ect ect.

Anyway, balancing out this mod took a few days and I got it to a place where I like it and the mod only covers like a handful of files, a few files here to change tech costs, a few files here to manage components, the big spreadsheet with all the weapons is like totally changed, but every fucking patch I have to go back and edit fucking everything again.

Like I can't just copy over my edits because something else in those files might have changed so I have to open up the new version of the file, my edited version of the file and change everything line by line and it's kinda a pain, we're only like 4 updates into this game and I'm already getting sick of doing it again and again and this is a tiny mod only for me. How the fuck do big massive mods that actually add or modify the game substantially do it?

The game just got released, so the patch frequency is high. The longer the game is out, the less often things will get patched. Also, big mods have enough of a fanbase that the players are willing to wait for the modders to have updated and will play with an older version until then.(At least, that's my experience of people playing MEIOU and Taxes in EU4)

I've been toying with the idea of making a CIV5 mod that makes a set of key tweaks to make the end-game distinct, and more chaotic.
The big 2 current late-game mods seem to just add more content, lengthening the same gameplay.

It will focus around nukes and them permanently changing the game.

Gameplay changes;
Fallout can not be removed
Fallout damages by 5 every turn
Jungle and forest regrows on to non-fallout tiles

New buildings;

Artificial Uranium Fabricator (National wonder that can be built in capital)
* Requires a Research lab in every city
* Provides 6 Uranium
* Holds 2 Scientists
* +4 Production from scientists

Hovercraft Project (National Wonder)
* All armored military units move twice as fast in Fallout

Changed Things
*Nuclear Shelter changed into Underground Agriculture (Provides 10 Food/turn instead of protection)

Nuclear Missile
*Only costs 1 Uranium (Instead of 1)
*Range is 36 (Instead of 12)

Any ideas?

Glassing the planet would be the fun part
It could actually be fun to make certain units and buildings only viable if the world is glassed, so the game slowly transitions

It could be done, but it would be a lot of waiting in big games.

I think it should make it so the city doesn't get obliterated even if it gets nuked at 1 point.
But no -75% reduced pop damage.
So you can nuke it down to pop 1, but the building protects the city from getting completely destroyed and it can recover thanks to the food.

Compared to aliens I think we'd be be similar enough to have the same traits, but I've been thinking how it could be fun to have a multispecies start on Sol III with the different phenotypes counting as different races.

Shame there are no subspecies that would work perfectly for that.

If just 3 and the standard habitability you could make them have different preferred habitat.
Mongoloid: Continental
Caucasoid: Ocean
Mongoloid: Tropical
But they all have the same traits.

For a four split I think I'd go with
European, Middle Eastern, Asian, African
Five I'd have Indian and East Asian

Maybe you could get away with giving them things like arid and arctic preference if they just count contintental earth as their homeplanet and get 100% habitability there anyway.

So where in the hell does the game get this number? I've been poking around in 00_war_demand_types.txt to figure out how the game calculates warscore costs, and quite clearly it's doing some sort of percentage-based division. Specifically, it's doing this:

scaled_modifier = {
scope = parameter:country
div = 0.05
calc = planets_in_country
}

This is for vassalisation, so warscore base cost is 40. Now, when I set this to 0.00 it seems to be as if it's dividing by 1 (one wonders if that implies that 0.00 is considered 100%), and in other words the warscore cost does not change. The target has 7 planets, so I'd assume it was doing this to figure out warscore cost and then calculate percentage reduction:

40*(1-0.05)^7

But it isn't, so where the hell is the game getting -26% from? Is there anyone here more familiar with Clausewitz/Paradox maths that can explain?

Try going the other way. Add a planet to the empire and then check the updated warscore cost.

Actually if 20 planets is the baseline I'm retarded I know where that 0.05 comes in.
The idea that it's 20 simply comes from the fact that 20-7=13, 13*2=26, hence -26 cost.
1/0.05=20, baseline for cost 40.

I haven't bothered to go beta yet, so I can't really test it, but I have another idea.
I guess it might be related to the development of the planets in the empire, which already factors in the cede calculations.

Does Stellaris AI break or are there some other weird effects that playing a game really, really, really long time can do?

I'm just asking because I'd love to play this same match for ages and just see where it goes because so much shit has happened so far and I'd like as much to happen in the future.

I think I have a full-on civil war brewing and haven't even tried invading a single world yet let alone fought an offensive war. It worries me that the AI and the game just starts breaking like in Civ V if you play really far out.

>>143563860

>So, unless you confused the two empires, the one with more planets costs LESS than the other to vassalize?

It's because I commented out a part which was only distracting me from getting to the root of the issue I'm wondering about. In vanilla 1.1 there's also a section of scaled_modifier that takes all the planets of the target empire and multiplies it by 10, and it also multiplies all pops in the entire empire by 0.5, adding it all up in the end.

So you get this weird calculation + planets*10 + pops*0.5 for the total warscore. You can't actually vassalise large empires easily.

That part is commented out, though. There's no reason for that part of the script to even exist as it simply doesn't work.
The first part is retarded as it would make vassalizing empires with more than six planets impossible. The latter is commented out since it's already included in cede_planet calculation, which I assume figures in the new vassal calculation.

Everything on that pastebin that is commented out is my doing because I was trying to figure out where this number came from.

>The first part is retarded as it would make vassalizing empires with more than six planets impossible.

That is indeed the case. There needs to be a relative size of empire modifier in here to make it far more logical. In vanilla, that 7 planet empire I showed initially costs 107 warscore to vassalise.

>I'll download the beta and try to figure it out.

This game is going to be a fucking pain in the ass in the summer because I'm going to become self-employed and work from home and I have to resist this fucking thing all day long because this god damn thing is the best game ever. I'm not even kidding. This game is seriously the best 4X game I have ever played. It has everything I ever wanted and it managed to make research, discovery and exploration actually exciting. This game has me excited unlike any other since Civ III. This is the kind of game you can play for years and even after you forget about it, there will come a time when you are reminded of it and you'll reinstall it. I'm still playing Settlers 2 occasionally and this is the kind of game that will last as long as that game has for me.

I couldn't choose between Civ III and Civ IV to be honest, but the reason why I said Civ III instead of Civ IV is because I waited to play it until just before Civ IV came out because I never got to play it before that and played the absolute shit out of the demo as a kid. Shogun Total War might be the only game that comes anywhere near the same excitement I had and I never even owned Shogun. I just got to play it at a friend's house and it was the shit. I still remember the excitement I had back in the day and I got all that back with this game.

I like the kind of sandboxy 4X games that let me do shit or even just watch shit happen and then do shit about the shit happening even if it doesn't involve me. Endless legends doesn't feel like it has a living world that evolves that you could just leave to play on its own for 2000 turns and it would write a history of its own.

The problem with Europa is that is isn't actually habitable for us afaik. For one magnet storms are shit and electronics will probably fail absolutely randomly due to interacting with Jupiter's thundergod tier magnetic field. Then there's the whole 'no sun when we pass behind daddy' thing which would throw off the schedules and biorhythms of everything ever. Then there's Europa being pretty small with barely any atmosphere, etc.

>What is really pissing me off is the lack of actual orbiting around suns.

You REALLY don't want to open that can of worms. Not only is the solar system scale completely off, but all the orbits are perfectly circular and not even slightly elliptical, nor do they have any inclination whatsoever. If you add orbiting planets to the solar systems, and because the timescale is so large (several hundred years for a game), you should probably add stars orbiting the galactic center as well, which not only would fuck up borders completely as the most distant stars orbit far slower than those close to the galactic core, but it would be a huge drain on resources (which orbiting planets are too). Further adding to that, if you're introducing orbits in the solar systems for planets, then what the fuck are the ships doing? They fly right across the solar system with no care whatsoever about the gravity of various bodies.

Let's not even get into the complete lack of any sort of planet classification except which climate you can expect to find on them. No gravity, no atmospheric composition, no atmospheric pressure...

Yeah, sorry, I didn't realize you commented out those sections and thought the dev team left them in as they usually do.
So, my theory about factoring planet development was bullshit, it really does count only the number of planets owned, and it doesn't care about relative empire size.
I did notice that 20 still figures in, it's the point where you get exact 50% reduction in war cost.
As for what the actual function is, I have no idea. As a general idea, after a dozen planets or so it tends to increase the reduction by 1% per planet. Jumping from 72 to 73 only gives another 0.3%, so large empires really are unvassalizable.

That's cool.

I wonder how different the light of stars affects habitability.

Like the sky is blue because most of the blue light from the sun refracts there, then plants reflect green light and absorb the rest. Absorbing the green light as well if I understood it correctly would result in black plants and it which was probably too warm so reflecting green won out.

I wonder if that could be taken into account for habitability someway.
If the star is like our sun, we need a similar atmosphere for perfect habitability.
If it is a red sun, we may need a different atmosphere for perfect habitability, or we just get a -2.5%

Still invaluable information. It's quite a bit more complicated than I originally suspected, indeed. Thanks for testing, because I don't have a game where I can at the moment. I guess it's not actually calculating warscore directly from the involved variables (40, planets and 0.05), and there's some hidden variables that we can't see. Maybe I should ask on the forums, though I doubt any of the devs would respond.

If I am an empire that cannot relocate pops, and I inherited a few planets with nothing but a single droid on them is there some way to get my people to move there?

Or do I have to purge the droids and resettle?

Barely any options for diplomacy.
I played it trying to win by making a big galaxy wide alliance.
Turns out it is really fucking hard to get someone to join your alliance when they don't have an AI personality that isn't basically "likes to join alliances".
Meanwhile you can just vassalise their entire empire with 1 button press.
I was hoping to unify multiple alliances into 1 big one, also not possible. If someone already is in an alliance they have a huge negative modifier for joining a different one.
And then finally I found out you can't even win the game in an alliance/federation because the other members don't share your victory condition progress. The victory condition basically telling me to kill my allies to win.

ELABORATE!?

>>143577353
This.
I have fucking warp, it works fine for most of the game, but now it wont let me get to that which cuts off half of my army and spaceships.
I NEED to know why the fuck this bitch wont let me pass through

Yes, all are the same tech as that science vessel.

>>143577723
Does jack shit.

For some reason I can't warp in the yellow line. Like there is an invisible force barrier.

Both above it and below it everything works fine though. It's JUST THIS ONE SPOT
