This looks similar to PCSX2 texture bugs for example in Shadowman 2.

http://ngemu.com/threads/psx-shaders-with-launchbox.183505/

@shinra358 :
I think that the profile system in ePSXe is meant to associate different plugins with different games (which is indeed a really nice feature). Not different settings for the same plugin (each plugin has its own way of saving settings, after all).

@ZeldaFan86 :
I'm currently developing my own GPU plugin from scratch (C++, threads, OpenGL 4, DirectX 11, WARP) with a profile system and with game/profile associations. It allows the user to create/edit/import/export multiple configurations.

Unfortunately, I currently don't have much time to develop the plugin (I'm busy working on my thesis), and there's still a lot of work to do. So it won't be complete for at least 6 months (and will certainly require beta-testing when it's done).

Both are wrong. Real console would output the active area in between those two display aspect ratios because it always maintained 8:7 PIXEL aspect ratio, as opposed to 1:1 pixel aspect ratio that results in square pixels and either 8:7 or 16:15 display aspect ratio depending on whether 224 or 240 lines are drawn.

So the correct display aspect ratio for 256x240 SNES is 256 (8/7) / 240 = 1.219047619:1 or slightly wider than 6:5.

How hard is a HW renderer?

What OpenGL version doe sit use?
>>
>>143471106
I'd imagine it's not all that hard to implement for the PS1. IIRC the only thing Simias was having trouble with was with mask bit emulation. And he's currently using OpenGL 3.x IIRC. Could be with time they can maybe get it down to 2.x just like Pete's plugin. Right now a lot of things are not properly implemented or at all, so some games will have heavy errors, while others look just peachy already, such as >>143430072.

>>143478521
Evidently, you slept through it all. 99% of the time, cores don't matter in emulation.
>>
>>143478647

>Emulation is taught in computer schools
>>
>>143478194
It seems that you are the uneducated one.
Software doesn't utilize all cores that are available. Only as much as it was designed to.
Having a quad-core won't make software run magically better if it was only optimized for dual-core and nothing more.
>>
>>143477051
FFXII is one of the easiest games to run on PCSX2
>>
>>143478701
Any good school would have taught you enough that you would have been able to deduce that the number of cores doesn't matter in most situations.

Is cemu able to take advantage of quadcores. I know the wii u is tri core and it probably emulates that. But I cant find it anywhere.
>>
Why is Play! so slow? This seems to be a bigger issue than compatibility.
>>
>>143478980
>Any good school would have taught you enough that you would have been able to deduce that the number of cores doesn't matter in most situations.
Please stop. You are sounding far too uneducated. Do you know what a thread is? Most software is multithreaded now. This isnt your intro level cli program.
Its just a matter of how many threads it uses.
>>
>>143479023
>do you know what you just said?
Are you going to try to argue and tell me that Dolphin uses more than two cores?
>>
>>143472361
Can anyone comment on the reliability of PGXP?

I've read that it now tries to use the old GTE accuracy hack as a fall back if it doesn't work, before having a final fallback of the original vertex positions.

I can deal with minor vertex seams, and it being jittery as a fallback, but it seemed to be having some major issues causing stuff like falling through world geometry and shit (according to the forum thread).

Is it stable enough to use for most games?

Is it worth trying to use, or should I just hold off for a while until the kinks get worked out?
>>
>>143479207
If you say cores dont matter than Im sure you think dolphin runs well on a single core.
>>
>>143479194
http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Computer_specs#More_Cores

>Emulators generally only utilize 2 cores (sometimes 3 or 4 with hacks), so having a hexa/octacore CPU, or one capable of hyperthreading, wont benefit you anymore than having a similar quadcore CPU.
Newer system emulators like RPCS3 can utilize more cores though, by emulating the system's thread scheduler it uses as many cores as a game makes threads.

If you're the end all source of knowledge, maybe you should update the wiki that nobody reads :^)
>>
>>143474580
That's a stupid question.

Quad cores unquestionably will run faster even if that's simply because they offload some OS processes.

That said, Cemu could very possibly make use of more than two threads. It's unlikely, but since it's closed source there's no way to know unless you ask the devs or run some benchmarks.
>>
>>143479342
Thank you for proving my point.
>>
>>143479260

> causing stuff like falling through world geometry and shit

You mean breaking the actual game engine and messing up things like collision detection? Because that's highly unlikely, the vast majority of PSX games don't rely on the GPU output in their engine.
>>
>>143479194
Hey, my entry level cli programs are multithreaded.

10 years. And I'm seeing it handle games like RE4 or FFXII decently. But the frame rate is super slow. The guy doing the testing has a really top of the line CPU. The good news is that they seem to be playing with relatively little glitches. They are just running 5 fps.

It wouldn't be so bad if iCatButler made his own thread about it and was editing the first post with info about the current glitches and shit. Part of the problem is that none of the info is in a single spot, it's spread all over the fucking place, hidden deep in the last 15 pages or so of a large thread.

Also, iCatButler doesn't quote the posts he's referring to, so it's hard to tell which glitches he's fixed and which haven't been.

I'm not gonna bitch and actually expect that out of him, given all the work he's been doing on this, but it's annoying as balls. I would have expected someone else to have written up an overview about it by now.

Wii U is tri-core, if Cemu emulated the Wii U's thread schedular it could make use of 3 of the host's threads. And another thread for GPU emulation isn't uncommon for 6th+ console emulation.
So it really wasn't a stupid question.

That being said, it only uses one thread for CPU right now. It's planned to change in the future.

Yeah there's this texture error that's probably because of the missing texture mask emulation.

Then there's the wrong opacity/semi-transparency effects on many items and during fade-in/out effects. I don't know what causes that yet but hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Then there's the whirl animation when the fight begins, those are notoriously hard to implement in hardware renderers, they're probably reading recursively overwriting the framebuffer with itself while rotating it or something like that.
>>
>>143487721
Case by case basis. 3D consoles does not render 2D like 2D consoles do. It's more complicated than that.

PS1 emulation is doing really well, and Dolphin seems to have stabilized to be usable for most games. Cycle accuracy for NES, SNES, and GBC is a thing that is reasonably achievable on most computers. Many emulators now have far more accurate alternatives that are becoming more and more usable on lower powered hardware.

Advances may not be flashy, but they're happening.

Doesn't the ps2 use some 64bit instructions? I like x64 because you have 2x as many registers. This is especially useful since compilers suck at register allocation.

IIRC, mostly 32bit and 128. Anyway, the extra registers would be of little benefit.

Emus don't release, that's a myth. Either you're using a crappy disc image or a disc drive emulator that doesn't work with SSF.
>>
>>143526904

If my experience with other early CD-based systems tells me anything, it's that an unexpected appearance of the BIOS/Music Player means it isn't even properly recognizing the disc/image. If you're lucky, this just means a bunk track layout, and you'll need to look up how SSF expects CD Media to be presented.

If you're unlucky, you've got an unsalvageable bad rip and you'll need to source from elsewhere. Please do note that I'm not at all familiar with the Sega Saturn per-se; I just know the general tech behind these optical-based units.

Well I'd say it's one of those games that needs to use the .cue and since VCD can't load that at all you either need a .ccd/.img/.sub rip or use a virtual drive that handles .cue (and even then you might still need to find a new proper .bin/.cue rip).

Looks like you're also using a darkwater rip and those are known to be of varying quality, a proper one should look like pic related.

Guys I need help. For snes emulation, I used higan .94. I tried upgrading to .98 and it absolutely won't work, no roms load at all. I even deleted all the old folders the other version had created and let the new one import the roms, but it was a no go. It just crashes as soon as I load anything into it. Is there anything I should do?

byuu made it so if you use the stand-alone higan, you need to set up Game Folders. They're retarded and don't benefit anyone or anything, while making Higan a huge pain in the ass to use. The Retroarch versions of bsnes/higan don't need Game Folders and can run ROMs normally instead.

If you don't want to use Retroarch, just download the newest version of bsnes before byuu merged it all into higan. It's cycle accurate and runs ROMs just fine. For all intents and purposes, bsnes was "finished" a hell of a long time ago
>>
>>143560114

Apparently the newest version of Higan is 25fps slower now.
>>
>>143560114
I have no qualms about retroarch, just never used it before, and it wasn't at the top of the wiki's list so I figured I'd ask. Thanks for the replies
>>
>>143560304
That would be because byuu removed the balanced core. The only difference between the balanced and accuracy bsnes cores are that accuracy renders each pixel one at a time, while the balanced core renders the whole scanline at once.

Despite the fact that only two games manipulate the PPU mid-scanline rendering, and only one of those games is broken, and it's not even a game worth playing, byuu decided that we didn't need the balanced core.

I don't know either.

>>
>>143569107
Yes.
>>
>>143569273

Edgbla is vile. He has prototype features that were well above anything else in PS1 emulation. For years he sat on them. Not even releasing protype versions. And all of his code is secretive closed source.

He is one of the MAIN reasons why PS1 emulation has lagged behind. IceCatHunter had to do the work of re-creating texture perspective correction. Who knows what other features Edgbla has made. Even if they are protype that don't work perfectly, releasing them would be a boon for other PS1 emulators. People could read and improve upon it.

PGXP came about because Simias was working on TPC himself. It didn't work. But seeing that inspired IceCatHunter and gave him some ideas on how to tackle the problem. That's how open source coding works.

>>
>>143569921

Sounds like he and the ePSXe crew would get along swimmingly.
>>
>>143569921
I can understand conceptually why some people are protective of their emulator code. It's pride that they figured it out and made it work, they don't want other people using it and not giving credit, and maybe some fear of legal retribution because emulation is kind of a legal grey area. Maybe for some it's because they're embarrassed by how terrible their code looks.

But at the end of the day, you're making a program to allow people to play (old) video games on hardware they were never meant to run on, and people are highly likely to play games they don't own. This isn't the place for moral grandstanding, or pride. This isn't something that will get you any sort of meaningful social status, or even much money (even if you're a code thieving Android or iOS emu dev). At best it might look good in a programming portfolio, maybe.

And unless you're a total NEET devoting your life to this, it's highly unlikely that you'll make an emulator on your own from start to finish. Even if you are a total autist it's unlikely that you'll never use ideas from other peoples' code, research, or documentation. Emulators of even simple, ancient systems don't just spring to life from the efforts of a single person in a vacuum.

It's so fucking cancerous. Just fucking share assholes. It's not tough.
>>

Egbla has never relased ANY code for Bladesoft. It was Mednafen and Xebra before those were even things. Then on top of that it's promised these experimental features like Z-buffer, Texture correction, etc. Yet he doesn't even RELEASE that, even in closed source form. Just teases us with some videos.

Once he gets to a certain level of health it just seems completely random whether he will counter attack an approach/block a hit. the same could be said about other "arbitrary tests" that mednafen might pass.
epsxe is way more usable. mednafen needs flexibility in it's accepted bioses (if not an entirely emulated one) a greater range of playable formats and then it will be better, weather or not it passes those arbitrary tests.
as it stands, epsxe with it's shitty plugins is still a more appealing emu because of these limitations.

Hope you like using the keyboard for emulation or have a key mapper handy, because there's no gamepad support yet. Also no shader support, no DRC, and apparently it has some issues with frankenmupen and OpenGL in general. Other than that, it seems to work, at least on Windows 7.
>>
>>143593908

That was my guess as well. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to accept other BIOSes though, after all you can find BIOS collections pretty much anywhere anyway.

I'm considering however changing the beetle code to find the BIOS file based on a checksum of its contents rather than the exact file name, this way you could just dump your BIOS collection in the system dir and beetle would sort it out. That's what I do in rustation.

So this has been happening when I try to play circle of the moon. I've never seen a GBA glitch out, yet alone this one. I've beaten it multiple times. Sorry. VBA. What's happening is that the sprites freeze on screen despite the game still going on. For example, the last time the glitch happened there was a still image of Nathan striking stuck on screen but it still scrolled left and right as if I was moving.

The game is Circle of the Moon. VBA is version 1.8.0.0

For some reason I want to say I experienced a VBA bug on that boss long ago but it was not a crash along with graphical errors, just weird messed up graphics. Yeah, that's what happened to me. The screen is frozen but the game is still going. I can hear myself getting murdered by death by the graphics just fuck up. I do have a hard save before the boss, will I be able to use that save in mgba despite it being a different emulator?
>>
>>143615802
The hard save should work but save states won't. Might have to name the extension something different but maybe not even that. Just start the game once before you move the save and see what kind of hardsave it creates and if it's basically the same then replace it.

An X modeline is more flexible, stable, and supports more video cards than CRT-emudriver. It's also possible to run 15kHz and 31kHz displays simultaneously. I don't recommend using an old Windows based 15kHz solution. Stay up to date and use Linux instead

I am basically swamped in work on tons of stuff. It's focus stuff on this or that first or have no new RA, or no new this/that developments ,etc. I still fully intend to do it all. It just all cannot be done at the same time unless some more serious devs come in (and no, they will have to actually do serious core development for me to consider them 'serious'. Like, guys who would actually do a Dolphin libretro port instead of just putting more on my backlog. That isn't much for 'help', that is just putting more on my backlog and then getting into uppity rants whenever some bipolar dipshit deems I am not doing my work / job as a project lead. Yes

Please elaborate

>You want contributors who will stick around and maintain their shit

Doesn't happen, ever. It's next to impossible for 90% of projects to get a stable flow of contributions. Even Linux (the kernel) has tons of drivers that haven't been touched in years and are broken in 10 different ways as the kernel evolves around them.

Maybe ask yourself why nobody wants to work on your project or with you.

I have a very strange problem.

I was playing castlevania or the commodore 64 on hoxs 64. in one moment, I accidentally pressed s and prompted the game to save. It took ages and it seem to hang so I closed the emu. Now, not only does the emu doesn't go past the "insert disk#2" screen but it refuses to play anything else.
I've rebooted, deleted and installed a fresh Hoxs 64 and a new d64 of castlevania and rebooted the computer. Still nothing.
I'm at a loss.

Plenty of people work with me and the project. And they are more important than some nameless nobody like you.

If you want to latch a lot of importance around Alcaro's role, have at it. The project will keep going on with or without him.

Looking slightly better.

My bad, looks like you have more than enough contributors then :)

><Twinaphex> it is impossible for one person to do it all
><Twinaphex> right now I have to run like 4-5-6 different projects at the same time
>>
>>143671583

You are not the one who gets to decide that, it's endusers and their 'demands' who do.
>>
>>143672057

It's still not enough.

RA takes on the workload of maybe 80-90 emulator projects put together. You need massively more devs for something like this than yet another little emulator project. Your average emudev with his own emulator is not even operating within the same ballpark when it comes to necessary infrastructure, developers, etc.

I kinda like the C64 kinda pale colors.
Still at least it has colors. Don't know how this guy got these pale to the extreme palette.

I could tinker with the palette but this flu is nagging me something fierce.

Yes, people thought it would be great to copy punes (since it's more accurate than the NES itself) and make it default in nestopia that the pixels have a ratio of exactly 8:7 (based on analog timings) instead of just having the output be 4:3.

It's retarded as fuck.

You need to document things more. You're just going to have to take the time to do more developer documentation because you're the only person who knows the internals enough to do it in a thorough way.

There are many people who want to contribute but don't know where to start. Documentation can help with that, by demystifying certain aspects of the code.

All the other feelings-based bullshit people throw around are irrelevant or just excuses to do nothing. Ignore them.
>>
>>143675121

It's not retarded though, unless you like things being wider than they were intended to be. If you want to do straight 4:3, it has to include the 280x240 full signal, or else the pixels gets stretched too much. Simple as is.
