The way dialogue is presented in MN9 still just bothers me so much when there are close ups on those character models with unmoving mouths.

Just use larger, more expressive character portraits near the dialogue box, that way the focus isn't on those expressionless, lifeless models. X8 did it just fine.

-Guts Blocks don't come back after death

I'd throw 2 up as being the easiest, especially on American Normal Mode.
The others are all probably fairly equal in difficulty, for different reasons with each title. Although, as I play through 5, it's probably on the easier end of the spectrum, especially with the strangely high rate that 1-ups drop.

Basically, you have to fire just after his projectile leaves and immediately jump, and then do the same for each of the following ones. The leaves are on arms and have thrusters, allowing Mandrake to glide and move very quickly in the air and on the ground, but are not very good for actual continued air travel. When retracted they shield Mandrake from rain and such when sniping.
The flowers are on prehensile cables and act as drones to give Mandrake cover, or he'll take control and have 3 more guns to his regular 4 for a devastating barrage.

Personality wise, he is more or less Zorro; graceful, elegant, but not in a pompous or effeminate manner, no flamboyancy with this guy. He's not much of a talker, until you gush about how radical his missions must be, in which case he'll regale you with a dramatic rendition of his latest hunt, hand gestures and hyperbole aplenty.
