McCree is my favourite character but I'm not as good with him as others

So far the way I'm playing is

>Hold down left click at mid range
>Right click at close range
>right click, roll, right click for burst
>Hit stun at mid/close range whenever I can
>Save ult for flanks

What am I doing wrong/should be doing differently? Holding down left click probably isn't efficient but it feels so much smoother. Should I be saving my stun for certain enemies/attacks instead of whenever someone gets close?

I wanna main widowmaker but I got to learn the maps more. I tried all the heroes and apparently I'm best with D.va. Holy shit can I melt faces with her, even without the mech too.

Tracer is the only character that requires skill. She can successfully fight every character but they are almost all uphill battles.

How do I gauge my own skill at this game? Should one player be able to carry an entire team if the other's shit enough? I normally get multiple gold/silver medals no matter who I play but often the outcome of the game is a complete tossup. I don't know if I'm just bad or if its just luck of the draw on who you get on your team.
