I started playing fairley recently and I have been having a lot of fun with the trial stormcrow that has 5x med pulse lasers, now I'm seeing crazy srm boat crows wrecking face and I'm wondering if I should buy one when I have enough c-bills.

Given that you can strap any pod config you like on the base CT chassis, why not both? Streakcrows take advantage of being able to deliver a fuckton of guided SRMs to gank lights, but weaken as heavier 'Mechs can absorb random damage better- but in Scouting (and some Invasion decks) that's common, and they can do the same in quickplay. Just try not to engage the fatties first, as your SSRMs will generally waste themselves sanding away armor and not gouging any exposed internals. If it's not your cup of team, just swap pods.

The Prize mechs come with a 300MC valued mechbay (this is the big draw) and they're also Champion variants for 30% more EXP. That means they're slightly more valuable than the regular variant (although they're not worth actually buying)

Currently the legs are one big part, so you can't blow off individual legs or anything. Though you can critically damage them to slow down movement.

As for the rest of the parts, they all have their own health and armor values. fights can take a long time so a huge part of the gameplay is about aiming for modules and weapon groups rather than just going straight for a cockpit or leg kill all the time.

2.5t of gauss ammo and an extra DHS instead, but that does work if you find yourself actually using all that gauss ammo. Probably won't though. 25 shots is more than enough when you have 2LPL to rely on.

The ML is mostly there to elevate the LPLs to the high hardpoints, so only use it when you've got the heat to spare and they're within range. Mostly just forget it's there since that mech is best suited to 600~900m hillhumping.

Clans will never make truly great SRMboats since they lack the IS Structure quirks to be survivable (they're all squishy)
The Summoner does SRM brawling but only because that's all the chassis is good for aside from LRMboating, and the Mad Dog can do it pretty good with the sheer volume of missiles it mounts (6*6 tubes, that's 36 Artemis tubes for 72 alpha) but the Mad Dog is still a fragile 60 tonner and does best when it has surprise on it's side. If you really want an SRM brawler, go IS.
