Minecraft for Windows 10 beta released, coded in C++.
FyberOptic ported the modloader "Meddle" to 1.9 snapshots.
1.9 has been released, and it's buggy as all hell. Contains The End revamp, beets, YMMV new combat, witch sounds and other features. Check the wiki for more info.
Team Cofh anounced that 1.8.9 modding is garbage https://twitter.com/TeamCoFH/status/709535352369909760 and that they won't be continuing. But they went ahead and started porting anyways so a fuss for nothing.

In fact, I found a little RR setup in my screenshots folder.

The barrels and diamond chests are all RR sorting variants. Anything piped into the chests is automatically sorted into the barrels.

I shotgunned my first RFtools dimension here, and wound up with a world covered in a never-ending ocean of IC2 coolant.
Would've been nice if it was playable. It dragged my game to a stop. Suffice it to say I don't shotgun dims anymore.

you've read reviews from or know some real quality assholes, anon. kiddie bux are an easy cash grab and Minecraft has been marketed so fucking hard to children its disgusting. Minecraft is also the wretched hive of spergs and autists, but its perfectly fine if you play alone or with a small group of people that you know.

I'd only recommend it to someone that:
- actually likes pixel art.
- creates their own objectives in a sandbox environment
- enjoys building A Thing even if its just pixels and like everything else in life doesn't matter
- knows what modding is and has done it to games in the past. this isn't as important, even if vanilla is very lackluster after a while.

like, for 25$? you could get something different that offers similar that Minecraft does--an infinite sandbox world with a hands-off ruleset and an array of tools to Do A Thing to the world--but frankly? Nothing can give exactly what it offers, but there are games that can provide something similar without some of the detractions.

Terraria for example actually has reasons to explore and combat that is actually good compared to Minecraft. That world though is extremely finite. Art's nice and it is fun while it lasts but I haven't picked it up for a couple years now, whereas I still actively play Minecraft.

Kerbal offers a sandbox mode, and though its vanilla game has gotten better it can leave a little to be desired. Its not a block-based pixel art game but the autism is real.

Pam's Fatcraft is only good for food that is stupid, overpowered and microcrafty as fuck.

Growthcraft CE got a little bloated with its bees module. its alright, good for farming Thaumcraft aspects ie ordo from its honeycombs or for making mead, but you could just use Forestry for bees that have near-limitless uses.
The rest of it is pretty great out of ten though. Rice is niche but neat, Bamboo is oredicted with sticks and useful for building materials. The Apple module is top tier for getting a shitton of apples early game for food and for making farms relying on apples for power/biofuels etc.
The rest are pretty alright, especially if you want to be a boozemancer. There are more modules to come though, community effort and all.

Pam's is fully Agricraft compatible. G:CE's rice is I think, but the rest of it doesn't apply--grapes grow on vines, bamboo/apples are trees, the rest are niche crops that some people might want.

GC doesn't have much foodcrafting. Rice is slow to grow unless you make a large farm for it, apples are apples, grapes can be eaten like apples but like rice is only useful for food in large farms.

It's more of a 'I want this particular thing to do' mod than 'I need a shitton of food, fast'.

I finally built my creative cell last week.

On the same day, a post to /r/feedthebeast/ revealed a team playing something like a hundred combined hours per day had crafted the guilty pool, and still had time to build an absolutely gorgeous base out of decorative blocks that nobody could even recognize.

It was demoralizing. So I did the logical thing and started over.

I think holding any abyssal material causes them to become hostile to you. After days of peace, i boated passed a group of them, and heard gun shots towards me. They are fucking hounds that smell blood, i had one follow me to my base near the shore and i dug underground to hid. All without any knowledge of java or forge, and watching a couple of basic video tuts.

Just bought it and tried it out, can say that it is very satisfying to the eye and ear.
It seems fairly up to date on features that are on pc, though key aspects are missing,
This includes, but not limited to:
Swimming when there is no block adjacent to you
Trading with villagers
Carrots, potatos, and beets

Could someone give an honest and accurate response to my question that has been looming in my mind for the past 3 years?

Not really, no, if you're just doing blocks and items (which was the point) you don't really have to anymore - there's even a special JSON-based animation API added by Forge now. In addition, the fact all items are now models may let me do some fancy pipe rendering optimizations with VBOs in the future...

Let me name just one: getters let Forge break things and change event mechanisms mid-version without breaking other mods. Which is ironic to how they've broken all mods by introducing it. Also, general code maintenance qualities - getters are far more future-proof than fields. It is a very minor change to be arguing about, though.

Anyhow, the best change that came out of this was the fact Minecraft 1.9 does multithreaded chunk rendering apparently - and in a much stabler way than OptiFine, as it doesn't crash BuildCraft or Tinker's Construct due to race conditions.

Rainwarrior is fucking up a lot of stuff. He also rewrote model rotations, so that instead of using Mojang's 90-degree increments you can specify any arbitrary amount. That alone is a performance hit, but he went even crazier with converting between quaternions and matrices and doing everything in the worst way possible.

Alchemy is the idea, but I hate EE. Perhaps a distillator that pulls trace minerals from Cobblestone, The result is purified stone (good for decorating) and a nugget of low tier metals (Copper, Tin, Iron). Slow, but flavour wise, the machine merely works from water and gravity, so it takes 0 RF and simply needs water put on the top and cobble put in the mid.
