Patience and distance are your two most valuable allies. Use the obscuring ring and stand out of their visual range. Wait them out. Time is on your side not theirs.

You can't tackle every invasion the same way. You have to read each group and figure out how to take them down. You are a hunter and have to act as such. Some groups you can just rushdown and kill the host while others you have to wait for the right moment. Sometimes it's just a matter of running in for a hit or two and then running away. Just doing the occasional swipe and beat them through attrition.

You need the right mindset going into invading to get he most joy out of it. Every encounter is a puzzle you are figuring out. You can keep trying to put a square block through a circular hole but you are only going to make yourself angry every time it fails to go in.

If I'm running a loose dex/int build, what is a good boss weapon to save my scales for?

At the moment, I have Arstor's Spear, and Crystal Sage's Rapier. I know that the Farron Memesword is Dex focused, and that later there is the Darkmoon Bow.

The game wasn't retconned at all though. DaS2 didn't advance the story at all or really change anything. Nothing was rectonned it just didn't have a meaningful effect on the story.

Even assuming that Aldia's ending was canon it just means there is some undead out there who is free of the curse and fucked off somewhere. It changes literally nothing about the overaching plot. Hell there are implications that Aldia ending is canon and Ludleth is the guy who snuck in and linked the fire after DaS2 guy walked away.
