as a pyromancer is it worth it to raise dex to 20 for cast speed and dancers weapons?

Is it weird that I'm enjoying this game so much I don't even want to play it? I know that sounds ridiculous but I just don't want to beat it too fast. I'm 14 hours in and I've only beaten 3 bosses. The Tree was the last one I beat. I keep making new characters to try out the different classes. I'm on a knight now since it's pretty easy to beat bosses.

I just got Artorias GS and upgraded it to +2 and I also have the Irithyll straight sword +2, I'm good at the game but shit at the minmaxing, am I doing something wrong or is there a reason why the Artorias GS sucks ass compared to the straight sword? I'm speccing quality. Seems to do barely higher damage for twice the swing speed, and the added range barely helps in the area I'm in right now.

Covetous Silver Serpent Ring: Go to firelink shrine, go onto the roof and inside to the rafters, walk across the beam and then hit the wall, it's illusory, drop down and open the chest, simple.

Farming Souls: Teleport to the Archdragon Peak, Dragon-Kin Mausoleum bonfire and walk inside, kill the 'phantom' that is summoned, reset at bonfire and repeat for easy souls.

How viable would an Archer build be? Bows seem to be a lot more effective in this game.
