Just to let others know, if you patch up to 1.3.11 and then use cocdater to 1.3.12, it worked on my machine.

However, using cocdater with a completely vanilla install or 1.3.05 caused a lot of different crashes.

I have seen a lot of discussion about Lost Alpha in the previous thread lately, about how bad it is, about how effortlessly it was produced, and how broken it is, and especially I became concerned about the criticisms of Lost Alpha's plot specially developed to satisfy this game's needs. Some posters have loudly condemned the plot for being absolutely poorly written and being overly emotional in a sexually devious way.

The stance of yours on the plot is very problematic and concerning, although I see it differently. While Lost Alpha may be technically broken (not from my experience at least, I had no crashes nor bugs occurring and the gameplay was very pleasant), the dez0wave team's specially developed plot has put up with one of the most brave stances on sexual openness in the game's setting, which during its times was ridden with complete condemnation towards sexual minorities - This kind of action is comparable with what Mass Effect tried to achieve, and it did. The original games had lots of sexist, if not overly misogynist and homophobic slurs, they teach people hatred towards oppressed people of different but in their circles unacceptable views, deviations and sexual interests. I myself am a bisexual male who pays lots of attention to such issues.

All three games released (ShOC, CS, CoP) have turned me down because of their harshness, in terms of difficulty and verbal interaction towards me, the player, but when I played Lost Alpha I was surprised in how actually tolerant it is towards the player and his ways and I played it all the way to the end, where the ending itself made me happy. I am genuinely happy that there are still some people who are willing to stand up against the stereotyping and verbal violence in video games and their mods. If I ever wanted my children to play a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, I'd give them Lost Alpha first, because it teaches you that you can be a good stalker without being a stubborn hater.

Guys, here is a thing I want to tell you.

I was always looking forward making the great genuine S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience of Call of Pripyat even greater, because something felt a bit off about it - its atmosphere was rather bland, the difficulty was rather meh, but I looked up some forums, learned some stuff and took appropriate action.

First, I installed Complete on my Call of Pripyat, everything worked as it should, the game looked better and played way better than vanilla, but this was not enough. I learned how to modify scripts associated with the game, main menu and settings. I edited the starting loadout to give you the F2000 and an Exoskeleton, so almost nobody will overpower the player, which is the most important thing in the genuine stalker experience. Nonetheless, I edited the settings and launch options, so it's all locked on Novice difficulty - nobody will feel all the frustration caused by constant deaths anymore, which is great. Even though, this was not enough - the atmosphere of the game was still a problem - I have modified the game's ambient level tracks to play ambient medieval music which is very chilling and will fit the game better, and also I put some great Skyrim tunes as battle tracks - now it's all better.

It still wasn't playing as I intend it to be played as, by everyone in future who will play my mod for maximum atmosphere. I edited the maps so they will now feature invisible walls and roadsigns preventing the player from accessing absolutely unimportant areas of the game and showing him the proper way. Soon I'll be working on a script after the removal of the invisible walls, and it will feature a 10 seconds timer to death after leaving the battle zone. At the end, I removed the ability of throwing grenades by the NPCs because this was against the principles of frustration-free gameplay, which S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fundamentally strived for, since Oblivion Lost.

There is a reason why the weight limit exists, and I think it should be limited to 30 kg for jogging and 50 kg for getting encumbered, unless you're wearing an exo or using artifacts.

And that's why the economy should revolve around non-common ammo (basically, divide ammo in tiers, tier 3/4 pays well, as in traders give you about 90% of its value in RU(*), tier 1/2 pays but not much and selling that kind of weapons ammo is more of a matter of getting rid of garbage), luxury items (same deal as with the ammo, I think I already said something about it in the old thread), and faction patches. Maybe make so that patches change quality depending on the rank of the original owners' experience level.

The boring way: make so that every trader has the same ratios.

Values luxury food almost as much as basic food. Shouldn't be able to trade with any other faction.
Duty: not interested in alcoholics (while you're at it edit out alcohol from the duty stalkers' inventory) and artifacts, they pay more for high grade PACT ammo and weapons, freedom/bandit/monolith patches and high grade medical items, and they pay less for luxury food.
Freedom traders are almost the opposite of duty traders.
Bandits: the only thing that I can think of is that alcohol and cigs pay really well regardless of quality but prices are more evenly spread out.
Mercs: artifacts are valued as much a the eggheads, other than that they pay better for high tier ammo (but not weapons)/luxury food and medical supplies, pays very well for cigarettes. Pay for alcoholics is lousy and most mercs shouldn't carry alcohol, like dutyers.

I installed CoC 1.2 from the torrent in its own folder under Programs.

I patched it up to 1.3.11 no problem, tested it and it worked fine.

I drop AO3.35 the version for 1.3.11, and upon pressing new game I get this.

And that's the fucking problem. Squares don't take account for the volume, and I can guarantee you that the 4 different kinds of ammo would take a lot more space than a Krink. In 7.62 you have the exact same fucking problem of a magazine occupying the same number of inventory slots as two double Saiga 12 mags.

You just have to be lenient enough that you can haul your basics and loot lots or pack for a week trip and be able to lot a little bit less which in practice will never be more than one or two ARs. So I finally got CoC up and running with AO3, DrX's faction relations / quests, and some eye candy.

My only remaining questions is what exactly are DrX's new quests? I haven't delved too deeply into the game but Star NPC's still offer basic "bring me supply" quests.

Also is there a way to not have to start off as ghetto mode for every faction? Was a bit bummed out to see every faction I picked start with a custom colored leather jacket.

I did, multiple times, by explaining as comprehensively as I could that the squares = volume mechanic would allow you to lug around 50kgs of shit that wouldn't fit in the backpack (ammo, because shit stacks, and even if it didn't you could still lug retarded amounts of it), while it wouldn't allow you to carry twenty packets of cigarettes.

The volume mechanic I propose would would assign the appropriate volume to every item, and display the currently used capacity in liters/total possible capacity next to the current weight/maximum weight counter, which makes complete sense and would be realistic.

Ideally I would like to see an inventory system that has pockets/containers for each pack to keep things in and each of those pockets/containers has a max volume value while the overall pack only has a maximum weight value. I know for a fact that a 50cal ammo can holds exactly 1000rds of 7.62x39 and that is completely stuffed to capacity, weighing 40lbs. Put this in a large enough pocket of the pack and now you still have a lot of room left in a huge pack and all of its other pockets but you're already using up about half of the total weight limit.

Then for rifles maybe instead of a pocket with the rest of the gear you have a volume limit for the outside of a pack where you would realistically strap the guns to. You could only realistically get two or three strapped on there and you would still have tons of room on the inside of the pack and add about 30lbs to the total weight.

From here you have tons of room elsewhere for supplies but only maybe 20lbs before you hit the weight limit.

Bandits being friendly/neutral with anyone is completely fucking retarded. Even having them be neutral with mercs is really stretching it.

Weapon deterioration would definitely help. I would say technician and maintenance need to become skills Stalkers learn. If the players can set the price, then they can potentially jack up the cost.

Some consumables should retain a similar price to vanilla, with drugs being far more expensive. I think ammo should become Metro 2033 levels of expensive and rare. This is in contrast to stuff like day z, where a few hours of monotonous farming on dead servers can net you all the ammo you ever need.

I can't call it a good game by any means, parts of it are pretty pants-on-head, but it gets some aspects of the STALKER experience more right than STALKER did. The Zone actually feels dangerous since there's more of a consequence than reloading your save, people that aren't brainless NPCs might be lurking anywhere, and the maps are just so huge with safe spots few and far between.
If you play with someone who knows what they're doing you can cut right past most of the really egregious MMO bullshit and get to the good parts but it's not easy to figure out on your own.

It will never be enough, that's just something you have to accept. I would lean the system to cooperation more than soloing however, there are plenty of 'survival' games out there that are just 24/7 deathmatch. Cooperation meshes well with zone life because so many factions are friendly or neutral to each other, so seeing large groups of Loners sitting with Duty or Freedom gives a good sense of common camaraderie.

Yes, you can stealth your way all the way up to the third floor where the docs are if you come up between midnight and 5am when most trips are aslerp. I recommend killing the three soldiers up there because one of them has a scoped rifle in vanilla and many mods. Be sure to go to the roof and knife the loudspeaker first so no alarm is raised.

Stealth in Stalker means avoiding sound cues as well as visual. So don't switch your weapons anywhere until you get to the roof. Don't save in the middle of the sequence, you will be discovered on load because you equip wraps on load and emit sound

If you want to mod things you should use trial and error. You increase one value and then use it in game to see the result. Is it OP then decrease it, if it's still sponge then increase some more.

Warfare is pretty ridiculous with the respawns. I'll be sitting in the middle of a base waiting for some friendly squads to show up and enemies will just keep popping up right in front of me. There are a ton of options to fiddle with though.

Sido gives a mission to spy some military just outside of the Rookie Village; this ends up with you stealing a proto-artifact which is some kind of psy emitter. Strong enough that I got zombie'd before I could even get into the container thing to pick it up.

Sido specifically tells you to go to Yantar and talk to the scientists there after you do.

You can pick it up without becoming a zombie if you're quick enough getting in and out. Prolonged exposure to any psi zone will zombie you I think. Psi zones seem to be a cloud anomaly that like other anomaly types are created by emissions.
