Someone pls post the pastebin
Also NG+ is GOAT

This game is wrecking me.
I love it and I want to get better at it and I'm not sure how.
>>

Dash a lot, don't mash buttons, don't lose focus , die a lot, keep calm
>>
Things you guys would change if you were in charge?

For me obviously have more content, just more areas, more bosses, more skills, more guns, hell maybe throw in another mini game like the soccer one.

More rpg like, this is just personal preference but hunting for the yellow chips is stupid. I'd rather just have a currency from mobs used to buy upgrades and have it so you lose some money if you die, bosses could have their own free upgrades.

Keep some of the hidden areas but remove the ones that actually just require wall hugging and aren't based on clues, add more puzzles to the game as well.

Remove the timing on the chain dash.

new game alt, it will become DLC later on
>>
>>137581469
You got to remember that enemies have VERY good tracking. Dash is meant to be used to evade at the right times, it has no iframes so dashing right before they attack or shoot will just spell doom for you.
>>
>>137582990
>I don't like NG+ where they put effort in by changing enemy placement and making them tougher, rather than fucking with your HP for lulz
>>
>final boss does not have 2nd phase
I mean it was fun as shit but the entire boss fight feels like just final boss's 1st phase
>>
>>137582002

>Remove the timing on the chain dash.

HAHAHA FUCK OFF

Serious question, I would honestly probably just include a lot of padding, whatever makes the game longer. More rooms that are just big, fun fights.

I didn't like that the underground was just a corridor to the final boss, I was really hoping for some difficult fights mixing enemies from the various areas, boss refights, and (most of all) refighting the South Area bosses in pairs.
>>
I don't get the upgrade system in this, I found a few yellow squares but it doesn't seem like I can actually do anything in the shops in town, how do I do?
>>
>>137587976
Four found bits = 1 credit
upgrades take either 2 or 3 credits
Hold "E" (or w/e inspect is on controller)

Most important upgrades are:
Chain dash
Bullet deflection sword
>>
>>137587976
most items cost 12 yellow squares

I'd recommend buying chain dash, bullet repel, and charge slash
>>
>>137588573
The Grenade is an underrated gem too

Against normal mobs it's a great crowd-clearer, and against some bosses it's free 3 damage.
>>
It seems like the only way to not die in this game is to be dashing 99% of the time, just to get a single hit in before going back into the dashing montage. Any other strategy results in these big charging motherfuckers dog piling me. It's not even that hard to do, but I just can't imagine why I would want to subject myself to this schlock.
>>
>>137588834
What you just described basically only applies to the fat plants in East.

Which are probably the stupidest enemy in the game btw
They have i-frames on dash when you don't? That's pretty bullshit.

That currency idea is pretty good really but mostly because the exploration is ass right now. Currencygrinding would require the inclusion of fast respawn grindspots.
Make chaindashing baseline.
Include some way to get easy healthpacks so you don't have to farm for 20 min before a boss.
Add more warp-points, especially before bosses.
Make the map more precise and have it track doors and other landmarks you've discovered.
Include some way to know where you still have undiscovered secrets. Like the stone monolith room but more explanatory perhaps. Maybe treasuremaps you can buy that give a rough estimation of where, for example, all keys are in East or one that shows all yellow bits in South.
Revamp the secrets/exploration somehow. Wallhugging, ledgehugging and aiming out into the distance in random places to find switches to shoot are all bad ideas.
Slightly wider window for chaindashing since I can't even do it reliably after like 20 hours ingame. Maybe it's just that it's framerate-dependent.

>>137599810

holy shit I didn't even know I wanted this so bad.

>>137600051
http://imgur.com/a/ybMHO is actually an updated set of maps. I did not notice someone made another thread here, people seemed to be bitching about this being flavor of two days so it shouldn't be here, so I refrained from making another one.

Also did some more testing, confirmed what all of the color sets do but green/blue - which does not make chain dash timing any easier.

>>137582002
Put some of the upgrades now into default own like the early build, Dash Stab was much more important in the early build as those 4 health robot enemies had shields you had to break with it - put chain dash as an upgrade you get after a short mandatory introductory area.

Add some more upgrades, stuff like further dashes, or double dash without needing ground to do the second dash from, to add more exploration options.

Put some sort of puzzles/mini game stuff into the dungeons, like hitting turret shots at targets to open doors, shit like that.

Boss rush mode.

Alternate drifter characters (more than just one locked to whale backers/pirates) with more unique playstyles, like the ability to float over gaps + a shield instead of a dash.

Two things:

Did anyone figure out how to get the "Natural Leader" achievement? It has something to do with taming a snail, apparently.

Also, aside from the large room that displays all of the stone tablets that you have collected and contains the brown outfit, I've seen screenshots of a different room filled with tablets that apparently has some sort of message on display and can be translated. Where is this second room, though?

To the people having trouble doing the 800 chain dash challenge and want to use a macro.
Download this http://ac.murgee.com/ auto mouse clicke. Set the click coordinates to X: 950 and Y: 800 and position the drifter at the bottom recharge pads, set Dash to left mouse button ingame. From there dial in the timing for the clicks, I think the sweet spot is around 190milli seconds and 300 milli seconds.

Post your results and click timing so we can all be purple cape wearing "cheaters"

Prioritize ranged enemies or get out of line of sight.
Bait attacks from melee.

If you're dashing that much in fights you're probably playing too defensively. Try using grenades to get a breather. I also like spraying with the small gun.

>>137600051
Oh and the other day I thought it might be cool to have enemies with a small alternate (blue) healthbar for a shield that recharges after not taking damage for like 5 seconds just like in muh Halo. And maybe enemies that can heal others.

>>137600442

>>
>>137602238
Used Consolas 1.5pt, color matches the sword for each set. And one day I'll figure out the green cape.

Also in the Early Build the robot guys down south that shoot 3 projectiles/2 damage slash had shields that you had to break with the dash stab, or do enough damage to before you could hurt them. Breaking the shield would stun them for a bit. I don't remember if it regenerated.
>>
ive been gone a couple days, have we found any other functions for the cloaks?

also the speedrun for this game is like 43 minutes with a lot of time that could still be shaved off, kinda crazy
>>

A picture detailing the gearsets' bonuses was posted literally half an hour ago dude.

>>
>>137603017

>>137600442

Also the speed run being so short is not surprising at all. The game is 80% exploration and 20% fights. If you already know where the important stuff are (mostly 4 modules per area) what you are left is just the boss fights.
And does aren't even required since the important thing is getting the pillar activated.

How do I get this module that I've circled in yellow ? Is it like in the same room as the boss or am I just mistaken ?
>>
>>137600442
A question regarding this picture..
do you need to have the full set equipped or just the cape?
>>
>>137603560
Any of the three pieces in a set provide the full effect, so you can have 3 effects at any given time.

>>137603524
Pretty sure that's right after one of the bosses.
>>
>>137603560
Each piece gives a bonus, so you can combine them to have 3 bonus at a time.
>>
>>137603723
I already have the shard/module after killing the boss. Which is the one above the one I've circled in yellow.
>>
how many hours did you pack into the game for your first play through?
So far I've spent 17 hours and I've only completed North, West and East. I've got everything you can get from those zones tho, but even then, I hardly could find everything by myself.
Am i bad at video games?
>>
>>137604254
Nah, I took a long time too, but I explored on my own and didn't consult any maps or guides until I realized that I was stuck trying to find the 16th key for several hours.

As long as you are enjoying yourself and having fun, who cares?
>>
Could someone with the hot pink cape please test whether it gives 50%+ ammo recovery only from kills or if it's from slashing crates and absorbing projectiles too?
Maybe I am too autistic about this shit.
>>
>>137604514
I just realized how much of a pain in the ass should be to test costume hidden skills..
first you have to go back to the town because is the only place where you can change clothes.
second is find a place with enough enemies and activable objects to test with.
then try to figure out what you are doing different.
fuck
>>
>>137604514
Okay, I've tested it a bit more thoroughly, it's any action to do with enemies that it increases that ammo gain from. Objects and projectile shield are unchanged. So hitting enemies gives you 50% more ammo back, either from killing them or just doing damage with your melee.

>>137604865
Yes it has been a huge pain in the ass testing all of them.
>>
>>137600442
Oh, I thought those are just cosmetic.
>>
Another random question, do you unlock the costumes automatically in NG+ or you have to unlock them all over again?
>>
>>137603397
I did a quick few tests, that does not seem to be the case, unless it only activates while hitting enemies, which would be... difficult at best to test.

I suppose I should try range next. I tested to see if it gave life back for various ways of killing enemies, no go there.

North is probably the best starter path, finishing it gives you a gun that lets you get to some secret places that are otherwise inaccessible. In terms of the story/game world changing due to path, no, there's no difference in what direction you go first.

North has the hardest boss imo. Maybe you should do up until the warp point on all three to gather some upgrade-currency before hitting any boss. Also get acquainted with how the map works with the double layers etc or navigation will be a shot in the dark.
And as someone said, East has the easiest boss. By far I'd say. And people seem to like the shotgun he drops, good burst on bosses.
Also I recommend you read the pastebin.
>>
>>137613228
>>137613445
While East definitely has the easiest boss by far, the enemies there are way harder than North, or even West once you get used to them. They seem to be totally balanced around you having Slash Reflect, or at least Dash Shield.

Still, any direction works - the shotgun is crazy useful though.

No reward for collecting all 32.

I feel like the mouse controls are pretty laggy and unprecise, atleast for a rather fast paced game like this.
Already disabled V-Sync via video card tools but it is still lagging and not on spot.

The only controller I have is an arcade stick which is pretty shit as its joystick only knows 8 directions.

Intentionally or not, it's marked wrongly and is infact in the room just north of it. So there are two in the room with big eyeball-jars and elevator. >>137628464
its not so bad, theres only a few enemies/attacks thatre just mind bogglingly stupid. The large plants that sometimes just insta leap with next to no delay and the samurai boss sometimes just doing a 180 backwords slide slash are the only real things that mess me up.
>>
>>137628464
If you're a cool enough dude, presumably you could get all the monoliths and equip the brown sword/droid and have 3 health. I haven't tested that.

Still though, it's only strong attacks/explosions that do two damage, long as you play proficiently you'll be fine.

So, was there a way to beat Western boss that didn't involve baiting him into breaking his own crystal warriors before they could be summoned, and then just sword-reflecting his gay missiles for 10 minutes in between dodging his attacks like a fancy blue mosquito?

Felt like a cheap way to beat him, but his slash spam is cheap too so I guess it's sort of fitting.
>>
>>137581469
So uhh, what I did was I got the charge slash upgrade. And then I'd bait melee attackers, get out of the way, and then counter them with a slash + charged slash which kills pretty much anything.

That does entail buying the charged slash upgrade of course.

And you really should get the ranged enemies out the way first, but thankfully they don't have much HP. Projectile absorption dash helps with closing the gap.

Is that the room with the prison cells?

Well, regardless, the secret for any of these areas is simply to walk along all ledges and walls, pay attention to your droid in case it locates a hidden path for you, in open spaces look around around using your railgun for switches to shoot, and destroy and nearby destructible objects in case there are switches/paths hidden underneath/behind them.
>>

I've walked along every ledge I know of and have even started jumping out anywhere that looks even remotely promising, just in case. It should be the area where you take the first lift down from the warp pad, go through a one-module door, then through some rooms and down a second lift, across a bridge. The room starts out with an energy door with two more energy doors right after it.

A lot of people don't know what to do with a game where the objective is just to advance. Well it's not like it isn't clear what there is to do in the game, at least after you've been playing for a couple of hours.
Killing the bosses and raising the pillars is the most obvious, and to do that you quickly learn that you need to get those shard things. Then most players will realize there are more shards in each area than you strictly need to face the boss, so collecting all 8 per area becomes another thing you can do, then there's money to find for upgrades, and keys.
I mean if you're doing any of the above, you're not playing without a goal in mind.

I found it to be better than the pistol early game because you could thin out enemies before you stepped into shit, but later on as I got used to being more aggressive it was almost a chore to keep equipped just for the sake of looking for secret switches. I think I'd prefer the Pistol + Shotgun for most of the game though. That shotgun really fucks up big enemies and bosses if you can get close. Pistol is great later when you get some balls and want to spray into a crowd or take out mid range enemies so they don't fuck you while you're dick slapping closer ones.

>Remove the timing on the chain dash.
No. In the room where you purchase it, there should be a beat that maintains the timing of it.

The hardest part about Chain Dashing is not the timing, but figuring out the timing Needing to hit 5hz to chain dash is not exactly hard, but figuring out that its 5hz is a lot harder.

What's the criteria for activating the dash shield? Sometimes it pops up and sometimes it doesn't, and I haven't quit figured out what makes it tick yet.
>>
>>137656563
I've noticed it glimmers when you're already close to a bullet, so you can't run into a bullet at the mid-point or ending of a dash, but ramming into one at the start of the dash should absorb the shot.
>>
>>137656563
I think it has to do with timing your dash just before a bullet arrives.
That is the closest I can give you, since sometimes I get hit degardless while doing this.
Which is why I got the slash-repulses-bullets ability.
>>
>>137628029
It does earn some points when you remember the game is based off of the dev's losing battle against a terminal heart disease.
>>
>>137656563
It only activates if a projectile is within a certain distance of you when you -start- the dash, and it stays on for the whole duration of the dash. If a projectile is further away and you dash towards it thinking the shield will activate, you'll get hit.
>>
>>137657106
Also be aware that the projectile doesn't even have to be travelling towards you, it could have already missed, but as long as it's still close enough it will make the shield activate if you dash.

Dash and attack following mouse is nice, until you want to dash over a screen transition. Then there is a 50/50 chance of you having the cursor one pixel to the left, and you reverse dash.
Or when the game is not sure on dash direction, where it can start going in weird circles.

Have you guys done any challenge runs? I just finished my no upgrades run. Gonna do NG+ next followed by no deaths.

I figured out a great trick with the shotgun to do massive damage fast.

If you don't already know, you can cancel a gunshot by immediately swinging your sword after. If you try this with shotgun however, there is a huge cooldown. Try it yourself by firing shotgun then cancelling it and trying to fire it again.

HOWEVER, you can circumvent this by swapping weapons. So you fire the shotgun, cancel by swinging 3 times, then swap weapons twice to get back to shotgun then fire again and swing and repeat.

Check the webm and you'll see what I'm talking about it.

Threw 4 hours into this tonight, great fun game, was about to give up trying to find the triangles for the 1st boss since I'm a casual, but now I'm gathering the ones for the north boss.

Only issue is the framerate desu, but it's not a huge deal.
>>
>>137693016
Some of the bits are in bullshit locations though, like the secret within a secret where you have to intentionally "trap" yourself by hitting a switch from the other side of the floor tiles it raises/lowers.

After I found that, I went back to the northern most part of East to see if a similar thing was done with the island the key is on, but there you actually do trap yourself, go figure.
>>
>>137693475
You only need 3 triangles to reach bosses and 4 of them get marked on your map, you can find them.
>>
>>137693738
Oh cool, I thought I needed to finish the whole set for the north boss since I passed a door that required all of them, but then further down found the 3 triangle door. I saved and quit since honestly I need some sleep and was getting sloppy. So the 3 triangle door is the boss entrance?

Also how fucking easy was the frog guy compared to the 1st boss, didn't need more than 1 try.
>>
So I bought this game on Steam, now I'm wondering, can I replace the install files with those of the Pirated Kickstarter version of the game to unlock the alternate drifter or nah?
>>
>>137693905
There's no real 'first' boss since you can do North, West, or East first. The Frog Boss (East) is generally considered the easiest, West boss the hardest, and North a happy middle ground.
>>
>>137693905
>So the 3 triangle door is the boss entrance?

Eh, kind of.
It's a choke point. You can't reach the boss from the teleporter unless you go through it, but there's a lot more behind them then just the boss.

>>
>>137694231
>Oh I started at West, I think most would though.

Wat?
The note about the triangles in the drifter's house indicates North, and the dog in the center of town that the camera focuses on goes East

West first is probably the least often picked option

>>
>>137694782
Sorry, I still haven't figured it out. All I've been able to do is disprove some theories/suggestions.
It does not make chain dashing more lenient
It does not make sword swings any faster
It does not make your dash longer
It does not make any attacks visually bigger (I have not found an effective way to test actual hitboxes for stuff like charge slash)
It does not effect either dash attack's performance/functionality
It does not give any invuln frames on initial dash (I have not proven this for chain dashes, but why the fuck would that be different)
Far as I can tell it doesn't restore health through any method
It does not make guns shoot faster or more accurate.
It does not make any gun hit harder
It does not make the bomb hit harder
It doesn't make any sword attack hit harder, though the possibility exists for counter attacks still

I'm kind of running out of stuff to test.
>>
>>137694795
Lots of encounters has to "spawn". Which they do real time to do, and then the walls pop up.
>>
>>137694471
The movement optimization is surprisingly disappointing. I shouldn't have expected much since the game only recently came out, even if it is a speedrun
>>
>>137695851
Yeah from what I can tell, the people running the game aren't even particularly good at it, they just routed it out to be efficient and found some bypass tricks.

There's probably additional time to save by going sanic fast like >>137695707 would suggest. But it's hard not to hit stuff so they probably don't go for anything like that.
>>
>>137689076

>>
>>137700261
You're not "supposed" to fight the bosses in any particular order, but some are definitely harder than others and having upgrades is definitely helpful. The east boss is definitely the easiest, and most people find the next hardest to be north, followed by west.

Interestingly, the eastern area actually has more difficult enemies than some of the others, so what I did on my first playthrough was to explore each area up until I hit a wall - either the boss or enemies got too tough - then went to explore another area. This let me get a few upgrades to be able to make it through and defeat the first boss in the east.
>>
>>137701103
Top right exit from the room, break boxes on the upper wall, the 3key gate is behind them, after that it shouldn't be tough to figure out.
>>
>>137701174

Go through the three-key door.
North is one of those moving crushing blocks. Move passed it, take the secret path to the left.

The rest should be self-evident.
>>
>>137701174
Yep, East is largely balanced around projectiles, at the start of the game you do not have a good way to deal with rooms full of frog ninjas and bomb chucking frogs. It also has a few chain dash sections. I feel like North is probably the easiest area to start in, then once you've got an upgrade or two move over to East to actually hit the boss and finish an area out.

>>
>>137707458
This is another thing, I need to find a better visual indicator. Yellow means above ground, dark red means underground, there is a bright red stripe on ones gotten from combat.

Red on red I know, it's not very good. I probably need to rethink the symbols and coloring entirely.

This, I did East first then West.
I found situations that require chain dash to come very early in east, & there were a lot of fucked up encounters like that area with both mole bombers & rat ninja as well as bomb plants.

West on the other hand had less hard-to-read enemies & encounters that just swarm you like that, & I don't think there was an area I needed chain-dash in at all. Plus I found some 28 pieces (7 currency) while roaming.
>>
This game really doesn't do scripted events very well. Once I was fighting charger plants, when they spawned I dashed back & then a wall came up between us, enclosing them & keeping me from proceeding.

Another time I think I was about to have another collapsing vision but before I collapsed I'd already dashed to & activated the elevator, so I dunno if I missed anything.

Yeah, it almost seems like the guy making the game didn't know which area he wanted players to go to first, so he matched an easier area with a harder boss, and a harder area with an easier boss.
>>
>>137710150
there's one point in east where you're above ground near the lakes / temple area, and you have a scripted fight with some frog ninjas and the little thief dudes who drop grenades that explode into 5 bullets

I had a frog ninja jump backward out of the encounter area, and refuse to come back in, trapping me.

The railgun has really good range and can hit multiple enemies if they are lined up.

Railgun is dece if you can line up your shots from the hip, probably has the highest overall damage potential per shot since it penetrates. The pistol is actually not shabby either if you mix it into your combat as a habit and keep your weapon energy from getting full.

Is there anything mroe to NG+ other than "you get to keep all your stuff?"

Also, this game needs a challenge mode, the challenges behind the 8-diamond-doors were awesome!
This is the kinda game that would greatly benefit from a level editor and workshop support, like dash-race challenges or constant enemy barrages or multi-boss-battles
>>
>>137714365
Go back to the area below there, there are 3 rows of bookshelves. In the middle row, against the left wall there's a secret passage. Going up takes you to a teleporter pad which brings you to that area, going down takes you to another pad which leads to a bunch of secrets like gearbits and a monolith I think? Or a key? One of the two.

This game is absolutely incredible

I bought it solely for the graphics, I heard about it when the Kickstarter went up and had it in the back of my mind since. I didn't expect the gameplay to be so fluid and satisfying, I don't even notice the 30fps

Absolutely phenomenal game, it's like Zelda in every dungeon has a new gimmick which you have to figure out instantly. I'm loving this.
>>
>>137718554
Pirated, so I can't really complain.
I'll probably buy the game when all the major bugs are pruned and the DLC comes out.
>>
>>137719571
What I like is that each dungeon contains enemies that, as you learn to fight, prepare you for the boss, who represents a sufficient test of your skills up to that point.

Racoon boss charges and dodges like his samurai minions, and fires missiles in you in 3 round bursts like his gunner minions as well.

Pepe tosses exploding bombs just like the bomber frogs, and you can use the commonplace exploding plant minions that he spawns against him as you could throughout the course of the normal dungeon.

DDR Bird summons hordes of the dive bomber minions that you've fought all throughout his stage, and uses geometry magic that is basically an upgraded form of what the fat bird wizards spam as well.

I guess the only exception to this rule would be the southern bosses, who each have their own unique moveset and tricks that don't really get replicated by anyone else.
>>
>>137719941
Yeah I think that was patched pretty quickly. There are still some bugs and shit, but the devs are patching a fuckin mile a minute.

>>137720001
Don't forget the last boss foreshadows his moveset via those times he kills you in the hallucinations.
>>
>>137720001
bird boss fucked me up something good man
>>
>>137582002
Make the east less based around projectiles so it's better for early players.
Remove invincibility frames from the fat plants.
Make the west harder.
Make chain dash timing slightly more lenient.
Make credits drop randomly from enemies rather than be collectibles.
Make those spikes in the west do 1 damage rather than two.
Add counters for collectibles.
Have a bit more interaction with alt-drifter.
Fix the game's many bugs.
>>
>>137720001
I haven't reached the southern boss yet, but it seems to me that the bosses in this game are way easier than just going through areas. I beat east and north boss in one try each, only west gave me a bit of trouble, but I still beat him in like 5 tries, and he was the first one I fought. Does anyone else get this feeling? I'm not even very good at this game, I think.
>>
>>137720723
once you get all of the upgrades the game does become drastically easier, yes. i would have appreciated it if a bit more effort was put into the final boss and it had an additional health bar, phase or something.
>>
>>137720723
I had the opposite experience. With the exception of the east, I died dozens of times to each boss before beating them, while there were few rooms that took more than a handful of tries to get through.
>>
>>137720723
I beat north in 3 tries, west in 2 tries, and east in 1 try.

The game just isn't that hard.
>>
Is there a prize for beating that little shit?

They were probably considered too difficult. They're the only projectile enemy that you can't effectively spam reflect or dash shield through their shit easily.

They also have a shitload of health and can't be stunned.

Really they were awesome and I wish the game was that hard, or got that hard normally.
>>
>>137723431
I think they appear in the 8 module door area in the South, but you never have to fight more than one at once.
>>
Do your unlocks carry over into NG+?
>>
I think the game is actively hurt by the choice to go to any area you want. The problem is that each area was made so that a new player could get through it, but consequently, people who have been playing for hours can just walk right through it. It robs you of a normal difficulty progression, and you end up feeling overpowered quickly. Maybe it would work better if there was a system to make the other areas harder if you beat one of them.
>>
>>137723262
Those are the worst assholes to face when you're dealing with other enemies. On their own you can get close and dash behind them for free charge slashes whilst they pivot.
>>
>>137723772
You start NG+ with all sword and dash upgrades unlocked automatically.

You must repurchase health, bomb, and gun upgrades once again, as well as rediscover any outfits that you had in your original game.
>>
Most annoying enemies:
- carpet fire ogres
- knockdown-for-two-damage leaping plants
- those fast crystal bugs that root you in place
Honorable mention: rocketeers, those dogs that you have to first bait into attacking to safely hit
>>
>>137723905
agree
>>
>>137724907
Just pistol slash the dogs to kill them before they can reach you.

Rest I'll agree with, though I feel the more 'annoying' they are the better, since it's upping the difficulty. I would say the leaping plant monsters should have a little more windup on their attack though, since they have invulnerability throughout.

If you really want to explore and find everything on your first playthrough, expect more like 15-25 hours (depending on how bad you are), the normal person just playin through it, finding stuff but not getting hung up on finding everything will be between 7-10 hours, if you REALLY rush and just don't want to look for anything ever, then it's like 4-5 hours.

Also using maps/outside help will speed things up significantly. If you're looking at a map you could probably move any of those estimates down a decent bit.

People who say it's easy and only takes 4 hours are full of themselves. The game is definitely challenging, and gamers that have less than lightning-quick reflexes and timing will probably find some of the bosses near impossible to beat -- especially with few gear upgrades. And the upgrades require exploration, which takes up a lot of time. Figure 10-15 hours to make it to the end, on average, 20+ if you want to find everything without guides.

What this game needs:
>a challenge mode/open challenge mode
>challenge creator for steam workshop
Also, this game would have been great for rogue-like, where you find single pieces of equipment and upgrades rather than the buy-system.
I know the decision to upgrade still leaves some choice and tactic to the game and the world is amazingly crafted, but still, the gameplay is too god to be wasted on one single game

Incidentally, who wants to play some Risk of Rain?

I agree to the agreeable things you said in your post. However, I think the devs are insanely amateur so expecting too much will probably end in disappointment. Especially considering the creator/leader will probably die of his horrible disease soon enough.
>>
>>137582360
I had the same problem for literally hours.
Firstly, there's a cool down after you fail to initiate a chain dash thatmakes the next dash impossible to chain. And if you try again in that dash it makes the dash after that one impossible to chain, and this can happen up to about 3 times. You need to run for a second and then try again. This is most annoying in that if you just want to make a single dash across a platform or something your next dash might be on the cool down.

That probably threw me off the most.

And lastly you really really really need to try turning the music off. listen to the beat of the button presses, and watch the character's animation to gauge if you're pressing it too soon or too late.
>>
anyone else having trouble using grenades? i hate going for a clutch nade toss and nothing happens while i get stuck in the throw animation
>>
>>137739893
Yeah, happened to me a lot when doing the arena.
I think you have to stay put while throwing it for it to work properly.
>>
>>137740368
yuck, who wants to stand still in a game like this? i'd rather just dash in and get a shotgun blast off than run back and wait before tossing a grenade. it really breaks the flow of the game. even though the arena was the only place i felt i needed grenades, i would have used it more often if this wasn't a problem
>>
Where are the save?
>>
>>137744139
The game saves automatically as you progress through areas (usually at the entrance of a new section of a stage, or right before a large room/fight), but you can also manually save by visiting a warp point and using it to refill your health and ammo.

Given the devs' apparent experience and expertise, even stuff like that is probably a pretty big undertaking for them. I doubt they have any good level/event creation tools, and instead probably just program stuff as it is needed.
>>
>>137756526
Yeah I know, it wasn't so much of a comment on how easy or difficult it was to implement, so much as a design solution that would have made more sense and relieved the boredom of the challenge.

At the moment I think It's a good game that could be great if only it were slightly more canny and ambitious about some of its design.
>>
>>137757736
Yeah, even in the second to second gameplay stuff there's some fine tuning I would've wanted - slightly longer startup on plant monster charge, slightly reduced active time on crystal wolves' attacks, some very minor changes to the input buffer, etc etc.

I'd put what we came out with as great, for me personally, but yeah, it's hard not to see just mountains of untapped potential. Which I guess is a much better problem for a game to have than just not being worth playing. It should be heartening to the devs to hear that the game is too short, since it generally means people just want more of it.

So my take away is that my reaction speed too fast for the game.

I heard it makes the timing for the chain dash a bit more lenient, but I dunno if that's true.
>>
There is literally no reason for the Chain Dash timing window to be so small.

>inb4 git gud!!!!!
Imagine if they made the chain dash timing window 1/10 of what it was now. Difficulty =/= good game design. The combat encounters in HLD are a good example of fun difficulty. Having such a small window on Chain Dash isn't fun, it's just tedious muscle memory.

How do I get to the first purple triforce north of the teleporter?
>>
>>137791837
That one's underground, you have to take the long vertical path to the left of the underwater titan, then look far left and shoot the switch that's there, opening a path.

Am I missing anything here? It feels like there should be something but there doesn't seem to be.
>>137792964
I saw the updated map and figured it out after I posted the question. I guess I never bothered to look over there with the laser gun. That felt bad.
>>
>>137796778
Top right of the second image there's a series of invisible platforms.

I don't remember. Might have been a gearbit, but not sure.

So does anyone have the latest version link?

Every. Single. Fucking. Time. I beat the fucking final boss, my game crashes. I'm never going to see the fucking epilogue.

What sort of a game is this? Is it like a top-down metroidvania? A brawler?

I love super metroid and hate Bastion. Would I enjoy this?
>>
I just got a complete gear bit, what should I upgrade? I already have the sword-deflection special.
>>
>>137800926
People relate it to Dark Souls quite a bit. It's fairly difficult in places, but most people could make it through. Just do yourself a favor and don't go east first, some of the worst enemies in the game are over there.
>>137801081
Chain dash is pretty good. It's the first upgrade in the dash store.
>>
>>137800926
Just pirate it and try it out. Best way I can describe it is Zelda-esque but with an increased focus on much more fluid combat. Some fights require a bit of strategizing too which is nice.

>>137801081
You need 3 complete gears to upgrade anything good. I'd go for the chain dash, it should have been your first upgrade.
>>
Wait, what, I just got the alt drifter's death scene{/spoiler] for the second time, first in the north, then in the south, what's going on?
>>
>>137800926
its a fun game but dont have too high of expectations and dont read about all of the cut content

its a decent length game with good gameplay and fun boss fights but it feels like it could have had so much more
>>
>>137734419
Saving the alt-drifter? Did I miss something?
>>
has anyone considered the Hoader achievement may not be bugged and is just one of those bullshit achievements for getting all achievements?
>>
>>137802596
I'm sure someone's gotten all the achievements, but to my understanding Hoarder is still 0% of people.
>>
>>137803113
well shit, i'm just getting frustrated searching for these gearbits
>>
>>137801606
You encountered a bug.

In order to allow you to go in any direction, the game simply keeps track of the number of times you've seen the alt drifter and plays a different scene depending if you haven't met him yet vs 1, 2, or 3 times.

However, if you die on one of the screens you meet him on before hitting another checkpoint, you'll get to meet him again, adding one to the times met count.

I know for a fact this happens in West, and before a recent update it would also duplicate the triangle markers on your map.
It might also work in other locations. So you can get him to die right away if you just suicide in the West repeatedly after meeting him.
>>
>>137805202
I actually got that bug with the duplicated triangles in the west too, alt drifter is bugging the fuck out for me.
>>
so are keys consumed? do they count for and from any area? I could have sworn I picked up a third key in the east and could now go back west and open up this door, but I still only have two
>>
>>137806647
They are not consumed and they count for any area. If you die after picking up a key, but before a checkpoint you won't have the key anymore and will have to go back and get it again, so maybe that happened.
>>
>>137806841
alright thanks for confirming, that seems most likely
>>
What are the blue square of the final Boss?
Do I need to destroy them?
>>
>>137802534
As long as you don't talk to the Alt Drifter on the third encounter (when he's on the ground coughing) he won't die. You won't get his costume options, but after you kill the final boss and reload the game, he'll be back in his house.

We're not sure if that's a bug or not.

How do I get across to the other side here?

Also can we spoiler shit like >>137809806 at least until a few more days have passed.
>>
>>137809907
>How do I get across to the other side here?
You don't. It's the 'normal' side of the map you probably passed through. (and probably saw the secret plateform, thinking "How do I get across?")
>>
>>137788683
It's not, unfortunately. I spent like an hour figuring out the available timing for chain dash (1-2 : .25s to .45s | 4-5 and beyond .20s to .30s) and that the green/blue set does not change that at all.

>>137774112
>>137780286
Sorry, I've tested a LOT of stuff and haven't found jack shit.

>>137799556
Abuse those walls, the rocket guys walk pretty fast so it's pretty easy to bait them into melee. Also try to just dash around the whole arena right at the start and pick one troublesome enemy to instantly kill. You can take out the lizardmen commanders by shotgun>slash>heavy slash before they can do much of anything.
>>
>>137809907
If you git hit by the frog's ninja star midair over the water, you can preform a floating chain dash and get across larger gaps.
>>
>>137812494
Yeah, nah, I already figured out how to get there. Nice try though.
>>

>>137661994
Does this actually work? I just beat the boss twice, but I don't have any new save named epilogue or anything like that.
>>
>>137817307
should be an extra square to the right of your save file showing what happens to the drifter after the fight.
>>
>>137817726
Oh fuck, I'd never actually gone into the load menu before so I thought that was normal, then I loaded my regular save and fucked it up.
Better go kick the shit of of the final boss again.
>>
>>137809907
a bit late but, you need a certain number of keys to open a door hidden behind a destroy-able block right before the exit of that section.

how do I open this? or activate the pillar in the room above, for that matter... I've tried the shotgun, the blaster thing, the pistol, the weird homing thing, reflecting enemy's shots, nothing works and I can't see a way to melee it
>>
>>137822359
You can't.
There is a secret path a little further ahead that leads to the other side of that door, but the door itself can't be unlocked.

this area? I also found a hidden passage that heads right (back towards where I came in) that seems to serve no purpose, since I can't even pass through the other end with the crystals... but I feel like I'm missing something obvious here
>>
>>137823113
there is a hidden path right there. To the left of the switch.
I don't remember if is this one or the other one that leads to the other side of the locked door.
>>
>>137823295
I see that now, I'll have to revisit this later and see if I get something new to shoot that pillar... same issue with one in the east, now
>>
>>137823717
The Line Rifle you get from the north boss is required to activate those thick pillars.
>>
>>137824024
always in the last place you look, huh? thanks
>>
>>137799904
Is it? I thought it was a weird shadow monster posing as a bird using a dead bird as a puppet. That's why the bird doesn't bleed but the shadowy being in the robe does.
>>
>>137825545
Yeah that's what I took from it, but if so it's the only time that black stuff would actually take over a creature instead of just being those little black leapy guys.
>>
>>137825545
>>137826572
I'm not sure it's the same "black stuff" as whatever happens when you start coughing hard but I agree there's definitely something that isn't a bird wearing a bird to be their king
