I dunno about Avalanche Abaasy, but topplelocking is something that works well on absolutely anything that isn't immune to it. While topple spikes were designed as a counter to topplelocking, speccing everyone with 100% spike defense makes it less than trivial. Lower topple duration certainly means that it's harder to topplelock, but that's really a non-factor, as surviving and recovering in those small windows when the boss is up isn't difficult. Most importantly, topple durations will stack each time the monster is inflicted with it while it's down, meaning that as long as you can keep throwing out topple moves, you're fine.

Basically, topplelocking is retarded and the counter for it barely exists.

I just went back to XC the first and decided to complete the maps. It appears that because I used the "unlock all landmarks" code on the file back when it was on my Wii (I have a no hacks file and a hacked file), it also accessed every location, but didn't clear the maps, and I have 253 hours into the file :^)

I'll take this brief MH break to say that I've recently seen the Huntress drawing and it looked impressive. That fucking Dragonseal was incredible, I really mean it, and the pose of her and the Rebellion torso tramsitted a lot of action.

Whoops, was talking out of my ass. Appendage Crusher > Weapon Attack Up _even_ for the Rust, with the caveat above that you Appendage Crusher caps at 2 or 5 depending on the enemy appendage (and so you'll end up with WPATK UP for the remaining slots, since they are better than, say, Ether Attack Up or Slayer)

Interestingly, for weapons with low weapon attack you can get Appendage Crusher > Ether Attack Up > WPATK Up

Proof: For adding 2 appendage crusher +250% independent vs +150% independent is a factor of 1.67, whereas 2 extra WPATKUP augments will just add 880 to the base term, which (assume a hit scaling of, like 5, say) is the equivalent of 176 attack stat (melee attack / potential) which is much less than a 1.67x increase in overall damage.

You can't miss things, but you can get npcs in normal missions killed by the wrong choices.
Don't waste all your BP early if you aren't sure about the class.
If you want to grind classes but not regular levels early, find a bunch of weak mobs that give 1xp and nuke them repeatedly. You can get up to 16 points per Phoenix if you stand next to the pond in the starting area at night.
Once you hit rank 10 in the last class in a line, you can always equip its weapons, so reclassing is less painful.
Kick Elma and Potato out of the party whenever they aren't required so they don't hog all the xp and affinity gains.

Elma is pretty consistent with liking you when you inquire over encourage, press for information, etc. but yeah sometimes when the response is too good to pass up even though you want to build affinity, they turn around and like it anyways out of nowhere. I remember Elma liking the sarcastic remark you make about playing the world's smallest violin, and I just didn't see that coming from her. Elma has a slight bit of edge to her.

I would say so but then again I post in Xenoblade Chronicles X general. There's a lot of stuff the game doesn't explain mechanics wise even if you go through the digital manual (which you should) and if you're looking for a good story then you're gonna be disappointed. The setting is fun and the world is fun to explore, although I found it a lot more fun when I didn't worry too much about story missions and explored to my heart's content before doing any of them. Post-game is pretty lame too, so I'd advise not rushing through the story.

I have a kanji/dictionary app that lets you write the kanji and it'll attempt to figure it out for you. I tried running that kanji in the image through it and it wasn't coming up with anything that looked even remotely close. Then I tried 間, and got it first try. New to this general, new to actually trying to metagame this at all. I've been running a Beam-centric Galactic Cataclysm set, subbed into assault rifles for the ramjet rifle through the early game and currently still using them for my TP gain by slapping TP up gems on ARs, but I basically don't use any of that tree's skills except the topple.

Is Core Crusher good? Is it worth switching to an ether build for? Is there a better ranged weapon compliment to Photon Sabers than Assault Rifles I should be looking into? Is Galactic Cataclysm total ass and I should be restarting from the ground up?

Core Crusher is fucking broken; use ether if you can.
Assault Rifle is actually really good with Photon Saber because Photon Saber learns a reflect skill (an aura that reflects one element, but you can equip augments or equipment to enable reflecting additional elements while the aura is up.) and Assault Rifle has a really good topple skill, so you can keep enemies toppled indefinitely. For TP though, Yelv (an optional party member) teaches you Essence Exchange on his first affinity mission which turns your health into tension and vice versa which is a far quicker way to get TP.

I don't use Saber/Assault mind you but I've seen people make it work really well.

Usually, no. Some augments work for both, such as Treasure Sensor, but otherwise you're going to need specific augments. Ranged Accuracy Up XX, for example, only boosts your ground range accuracy, whereas Ranged Accuracy Drive XX or whatever it's called will increase your skell range accuracy.

Most ground gear augments just don't work with skells, which makes sense. At least most augments on Skell-type ground gear, whether it's bought or dropped, work for Skells.

Ether is just good in general simply because of Core Crusher, as it's a variable all on its own in the damage formula, unlike a lot of other things. Because of that, Ether basically 1-ups every attribute in a lot of cases.

If you're set on using Photon Sabers, your prime attribute options are Ether and Beam, though some people say Gravity and I don't really wanna figure out why.

As for the ranged weapon, that's mostly dependent on what you're trying to do. Looking only at Photon Saber, your options are limited to the Reflect build. With ranged weapons, your other options are to use Assault Rifle or Dual Guns, as they allow for a topple-lock build or memewalker build. I would personally pick Dual Guns because it comes with Primer, which boosts TP and critical damage.

There's also the Ether memedance build, but that means switching to longsword. That's entirely up to you.

It's probably because I'm running Electric, but it's pretty shitty compared to other melee weapons. I'm only really running Javelin/Duals because I wanna fool around, but I did spec it for Potential, and damn does Maximum Voltage do practically nothing even with a broken skell.

Core Crusher is a separate boost from most other +X% Damage, think Enemy Slayers, Element Up, +800% if your Skell explodes Art, +300% on Shocked enemies Skill..., are all on an additive black hole that's rather depressing but Core Crusher and Offensive Stance, maybe some other I can't recall, are easy to abuse for being an absurd boost to damage that escapes that.

Ether Sabers are pretty good with CC and Phenomenon plus Astrolibrium's Reflect is a great lifesaver. I'm still working myself on a Saber/Rifle build for toppling with a side of SSS style and damage.
