Is it important to create a strict gameplan that you try to follow as much as possible while playing? Like having a consistent use for most of your normals, certain actions to take when you expect the opponent to do a certain thing at a certain range, etc.

If everything has a counter in fighting games, how much of improving is just figuring out how to counter the various tools of the various characters in the game? This is my first fighting game and I'm losing a lot online, but when I think about it I'm mostly losing because I don't understand the options my opponent is using. It seems like a big part of pushing past this beginner level would be figuring out what everybody is doing and why they're doing it instead of something else, at least online, and from there people would have to out think me or guess to beat me.

I only played KI for a couple hours but I had no problem getting matches at all.

Plus, if I really can play with Americans, then that's an entire continent of people to play with. Right now, I'm stuck in Western Europe if I want to play SFV, and there really is no guarantee that it's playable.

I actually prefer SFV to KI from what I've seen, but playing SFV online is just torture.

Probably not as easy as it sounds, they make the PC version after the Playstation version and you need to work with both Sony and Steam to get it working correctly. Keep in mind Xrd worked with PSN names and Steam names so you can't just patch it in, in SFV one reason you need a CFN id is because there might be a PC player fighting a PS4 player and communication between PSN and Steam doesn't really work.

So playing Ryu is now bad for beginners? I assumed that, as a beginner, Ryu would be the best character for me because he has a very clear and powerful anti-air, his combos are very straightforward, and I want to better understand fireballs.

If this is not the case and Ryu is actually not good for beginners, what character would be better? I would almost be interested in using a character with very good pokes and no fireball, because I'm very interested in zoning with normals instead of projectiles and improving at whiff punishment. Perhaps Vega would be a better pick?
