I just started playing, after accidentally taking upon an escort quest for Reynard, the merchant, I hiked our asses up through hordes of enemies. After all that trouble, I slept at the wooden fort place. My pawn had gotten like 8 items and a ton of knowledge, and all full ratings. Then it said "would you like to change your pawns equipment?", and I had nothing new. Is it all lost forever? It was literally knowledge for 24 unfamiliar foes

You mean when you answered the question your pawn's equipment disappeared? Someone probably undressed it and sent it back without putting anything new on it. Your old stuff should be in storage.

Nah, everything should be intact. That dialogue box about your pawn's equipment was asking whether you wanted your pawn to wear the equipment that they received from the other Arisen who hired your pawn, or whether you wanted to keep them with the gear they had before they were hired and ship the other gear to storage. It shouldn't have any effect on whether your pawn keeps knowledge or anything.
