It's a fucking opt-in, clearly marked beta which they've said since Survival mode was announced was intended to get balance feedback from players. It's not intended for you to pick and choose. If they wanted details on the number of people who toggled on save anywhere or fast travel they'd make those options.

They probably don't have enough T60 suits for all of their infantry. I think they were patrolling a residential area anyway, so they probably didn't need a full squad of power-armored dudes to keep the peace, nor any of the really heavy combat armor for the regular infantry dudes. Okay, it occurred to me first when it's suggested Nick be hooked up to Kellogg's brain implant with the warning that doing so could be incredibly dangerous. Nick immediately goes "Let's do it", not in a "It's for the best" way, which you could interpret it as if you weren't really thinking about it, but in a way that suggested he jumped at the opportunity to be in harms way.

That led me to reflect on how he is constantly putting himself in harms way, and how he uses the Original Nick's altruism to push that. Why would he need to tear himself apart repairing things in diamond city? You don't see anyone else doing that.

They've been moving away from restricting players since Oblivion. Most people (read: the ones who subsidize our fun little Bethesda modding sandboxes) don't play a second character, or even necessarily finish the game on a first one. They jump in, do some epic stuff like in the trailers, maybe follow some questlines and then quit at level 30 when something else shiny distracts them. They'll come back for DLC and continue with that level 30ish save, and drop it again when they get their moneys worth out of the DLC.

Locking content behind requirements (see Morrowind's guild membership restrictions) doesn't make sense when most of your players will never see more than one of them. That's why I was surprised the faction choices in Fallout 4 were actual choices, not just "Yo BoS are good guys Institute bad, go kill them in power armor."

Sadly, this is the state of the videogames industry in 2016. Anyone who thinks the people at Bethesda enjoy making watered down shooters is a fucking moron, those people are just doing their jobs and cursing silently at the Zenimax people who hold the purse strings.

Yeah but for each you'd have to have a fail and success response from the NPC so they've had to limit the checks because the two voices PCs ate 75% of the VA budget that would otherwise be spent on NPC response.

Having a variety of different checks also means more voice work needed for the PCs themselves, if the player is going to have the option of using a variety of SPECIAL attributes to pass checks, you need VA for each one as opposed to just Charisma.

Bethesda sacrificed a lot on the altar of voiced protagonists.

Morrowind's dungeons, disregarding loot, were actually the worst in the series. Almost all of them were small, and didn't just have copy-pasted rooms but outright copy pasted entire dungeon layouts.
When a huge amount of daedric shrines looked like this, yeah.
Ancestral tombs often followed specific templates, to the point where you could predict what was in what room based on the layout.
What made exploring in Morrowind good was the loot, not the dungeon design.
It's only with Skyrim did they start expanding the level design team and start using things like kitbashing, and a lack of warehousing.

Not to mention the only reason Morrowind's dungeons weren't linear simply because they were too SMALL to be.
And small isn't bad by any means, the problem is there were never interesting. Consider Fallout 4, which has many small-sized dungeons that don't create dungeon fatigue while still being entertaining and having something unique happening in them.

Megadungeons have two roles. I have to give Survival this it is pretty fun.

My new character got parasites so I decided to hike straight for Diamond City after doing Concord.

Every encounter being potentially game ending changes things. Especially with a legendary Raider hunting you through Lexington when you are still toting a bolt action pipe rifle as your "main".

They should probably tone the hunger/thirst down some, but that is the only real problem with it in my opinion.

If we assume that satiation would be just:
weight * quality = satiation

We'd end up with an iguana soup probably satiating you better than radroach meat, despite it being a tiny bowl.

Right now they only seem to care for weight. If you actually eat too much you'd probably vomit or get very sick.

So there was the thirst effect. I made my SS drink 10 bottles of water, that would mean death.

All things considered, I prefer NV in spite of it's glaring flaws.

Bethesda can't write a game that grabs you like Obsidian can, instead relying on neat gimmicks and stripping away options from previous games until all they're left with is a shallow but amusing shell of the previous game.

Obsidian masks it's inability to make a game run properly with excellent narrative, storytelling, expansive options, and player agency.

The truth is that if they'd work together, recognizing each other's strengths, they could make a fucking amazing fallout game.

Guns and Big Guns should never have been split up in the first place. Big Guns have always had strength requirements, so giving them their own separate skill is unnecessary. Fallout 3 didn't have strength requirements for Big Guns, so keeping them apart was acceptable, but NV did it better.

Karma and reputation are literally two separate mechanics. Karma's flaw is that it's too linear and universal. You're either good or evil and that's a poor system of measurement when considering all the different factions. Reputation works similar but it's a direct upgrade in how it works in the game, because it spans across all factions separately, and yet still ties some together by association.
