At least the last thread lasted quite awhile. That's always good.

All I made today was this rock. Today was also the first day of my first job ever (yay me!) and I was tired when I got home. I guess any progress is some progress.

Good luck with your games everyone!

I'm having some trouble.

One of my characters is a short goblin-like creature. Short legs, long arms, claws on all limbs. It is supposed to crawl on all four, but I can't figure out how to make a decent 3-frame animation for this.

Anyone have any tips? Or even premade images for such an occasion? I can do the pixel art, but for the life of me I can't draw decent animations.

Somewhat like a gorilla, but also like Gollum from LotR. The design is something slender and lithe, but strong enough to at least lunge/claw. I didn't think about gorillas though, that might be a decent inspiration.

Also, the hands are nubs, but with claws on them, kind of like pic related (just flesh and bone, not robotic). Can't go the way of a gorilla with the hands, but the posture would definitely work.
>>
>>137091921
My first thought was that it's too blurry and abstract, if that makes sense, but I'd have to see it in use to be sure. It's clear enough what I'm looking at, and maybe an indistinct background would keep the focus on the characters and enemies.

>>
>>137091921
Probably could use a bit more contrast.
>>
>>137101842
I wouldn't decide on one arbitrarily like this, it should depend on the game experience you are trying to deliver.
>>
>>137101842

>>137100671 here

It really depends. I'm making my game in the vein of FF Mystic Quest and so you can save anywhere, and there are spots littered throughout the game where you can restore all HP and MP.

Games like Majora's Mask, SMT and Undertale are different because save points tie well into their main system (Majora's Mask ties them into the gameplay, Undertale ties them into the story, and SMT has the system to add to the dungeon-crawling tension.) I personally don't see the reason in my own game to not let the player save anywhere.

I kind of want to go super basic and make it so enemies always hit for 1 damage, bosses being the exception, but that seems like such a cheap way out.

How do you guys balance your damage?

Two days of progress here, just learning how to do this stuff. Got a question though;

My text box is transparent, but the system.png file is solid. There's absolutely no transparency on it, except for the arrows. How do I change it to be fully opaque?

Using MV, if that matters.
>>
bump, don't die
>>
>>137108623
What's the premise of your game? I'm interested.
>>
>>137110586
Not entirely done writing a proper story, but the barebones is this;

>Girl doing her thing
>Suddenly dead
>Turned into that green monster (Named "Husk")
>Basically a sentient zombie, she works with unlikely allies to find the guy who killed her and regain her humanity, and also to help prevent others from becoming Husks
>Husks are incredibly weak, so you are the weakest of your party members until you regain your humanity
>At one point, you "borrow" a body, and can freely switch between Human and Husk. Some puzzles/areas require Husk form, some require Human.

Nothing else is set in stone, but I did take some inspiration from Legacy of Kain 2 with the design for the Husk. The webm is just a test area, making sure I got my common events working as well as testing the sprites I'm doing. Took me half a day just to make the husk overworld sprite and battle sprite, and yesterday was setting up the basic events.
>>
>>137108623
I think you'd need a plugin. It'd be super easy if you don't mind every window in the game being opaque, but it'd be a bit harder if you only want battle windows opaque. If I cbf I'll do either if you'd like.

Look at my webseries, which is also cringe-tier nonsense but netted me some very talented voice actors and about 45 subscribers

Hey guys, could I get some feedback of a track I'm making? It's the theme of one of the antagonists, who you encounter throughout the game. It's about the FACTUAL theory that reptilians exist, taking the form of humans, and are trying to take control of all of the world's governments and, by extension, the entire planet. They are actually aliens from space that populated on our planet and have been living in the center of the earth since the Jurassic era.

Neat-o. I'd play it.

It's not necessary, but it'd be pretty cool to turn that into like a wavy background, kind of similar to Earthbound. It'd keep things from looking bland and mixes well with a cartoony style. But if it's too wavy, you won't be able to tell what the background is, so I don't know. Maybe my idea was shit after all.

Inspired by Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and generic fantasy.

Hero loses her soul to the bad guy, wants it back.
Villain is a demon thing with five eyes and eats souls. Typical bad guy.
First boss is a righteous soldier. He becomes your ally.
Final boss is a dragon and the villain. At the same time, on a cliff, over lave. Sleeping Beauty x 2, motherfucker.
Favorite NPC is a Fisherman. He's a recurring character who helps out with minor things.
Bikini Armor. It's a joke armor that the Fisherman gives you if you complete a stupid fishing challenge. It makes every enemy drop fish when defeated, which can be eaten for health and mana restoration. The stats suck though, because it's a damn bikini.

The open world part is easy enough.

"Easy" as in I don't think you'd really need scripts to do it. It'd be an enormous, backbreaking load of work, though.

The action battle system part... I've never used one, so I can't say, but I have heard that they tend not to be very good. You'd have to look around, see what's available, and if it's worth building a game around.
>>
>>137171826
Like I said, it's autoplayed, so the next time I enter a map the music starts playing automatically, even if I turned it off before. I found a compromise though; I just turned off the overworld music entirely (my normal world, nightmare world, and dream world are all on the same overworld map) and make an event prompt to play music only in the normal and dream world. This is a hassle because I have to remember to turn on the music every time, but it's better than nothing. Also, it doesn't allow me to make smaller houses in the nightmare world silent either. Whatever.

If you're talking about rpgmakerweb, I'm not surprised. Anything more than a recolor is too big for them to handle.

Is that the Little Paw request?
The last part basically reads "I plan to make money off you, sucker." Kinda of a deal breaker.
You shouldn't make it sound like a personal request when it something for everyone.

Alright. I might know a guy that can help. But he's probably busy preparing for a indie game show thing. He'll probably do it just to one-up rmweb.

The start is really good and it does keep going good but the others are right, the main melody of the wind instrument does sound a bit like Battle against a True Hero. I'd say just change up that melody a bit and you'll be good.

Reminder:

If you want to make Undertale-esque boss battle music, but don't want to be a faggot that just rips off Undertale songs, study Touhou songs.

There are plenty of MIDIs out there of Touhou songs, especially for TH7 and TH8, the entries with the most iconic songs that also influenced Kunta Kinte.

Actually rather like how it came out, even if its a bit rough around the edges. I have an actual keyboard to practice my scales on now, so I'm slowly gittin gud. Better than the shitty normal battle theme, which needs a serious rework I think.

Shit man, this brought back memories. Do you guys have any custom sprites you've had for a long while? Any sentimental ones?

Closest would be the kind wizard erupting in rage at a flower girl. He just gets absolutely mad, and throws tons of insults. Completely contradicts the image of "That kind old man who is like your grandfather" that I've built for him. Flower girl is intimidated and runs away.

Not really intending to have anything spooky, but I might add some flair to a cave or dungeon.

Question; how much is too much?

>Intro waits 60 frames, starts with cart and horse moving up
>Intro has four characters (player included) introduce themselves; Name, home, and a brief plan of what they're studying
>About 9-10 lines per character
>Cart driver tells everyone to get ready
>Gameplay begins after a fade out-in

Too much to start with? I want the player to get to know the characters on a very basic level at first, so you know that your friends will be unique from the get-go, but I don't want to go too far into it. How much is too much, and how much is too little?
>>
>>137278530
I only stick around for long introductions if the visuals and music can keep me interested. If you're using RTP graphics and explaining all the characters at the start then I'll assume the rest of your game is lazily made and I won't feel compelled to play through it.
>>
>>137278826
The graphics are placeholder, since I'm going to do everything from scratch (game engine excluded, obviously). I don't intend to make it too long, but just long enough for the player to know "Oh, this is so and so from place, and he's a collected person. Okay", but for four characters. Right now, the intro lasts 2 minutes with all the text.

All the character development happens later. Intro is just so you know the characters' basic design.
>>
>>137278530
I'm gonna give you some Hollywood-tier advice:

Get a stopwatch, boot the game, and see how long it takes you read everything. If the player does not get control in the first two minutes. you need to shorten your intro or break it up.

Ironically, the latest podcast deals with this issue in-depth. Do what I did and study LPs for SNES-era RPGs
>>
>>137279115
And you can't get that information across in a less info dump-like manner?
Players won't initially care about your characters, and giving their life stories at the beginning of the game won't change that.

>>137293560
Well, for starters. I have fetishes for slavery, exhibitionism and ahegao / o-faces, so the setting is built around that.

Basically, this is a world where orgasms create energy that can be turned into spells. This energy can be transferred, but is difficult to store it and will naturally deplete if not used.

In this world, Magic has permeated most areas of society and often fulfills roles that machinery or animals would fulfill in other worlds. So, there are no Windmills, Blacksmiths or Carriage Horses. Different types of Mages grind grains, craft armor and make carriages move with the help of "Retainers" (almost always women, since they have a much shorter refractory period than men).

There are different types of Retainers: permanent-willing, temporary-willing, temporary-criminal, slave and permanent-criminal, with slaves being the most common. But all retainers need to be trained appropriately by their Mage before being put to use.

The existence of this "orgasm magic" has also made the world quite a bit more dangerous than our own. Succubi and Incubi, monsters born from the sexual fantasies of humans, roam around the world.

That is mostly it for the setting so far. I have some ideas regarding villain groups and main characters, but those are probably still prone to change.

Mechanically, for combat, you would have your designated Mage Hero that can launch spells based on the "combined mana" of the supporting cast or start fucking a supporting cast member to create more energy for spells. The supporting cast can perform regular attacks, use items or "masturbate" to create more energy.

Outside of combat, you have regular town-to-town travel RPGing, but also involve some Slave Maker elements in the adventure, where you push your Retainers to different sexual acts, and also figure out their kinks to increase the effectiveness of your Fuck command.

I want to make it so that the player cannot use the Attack command in a specific battle. How do I go about doing this? How would I do this?

>>137311432

It does work on enemies, but I'm trying to do it to the player in the tutorial.

>NPC tells you to show off your magic
>Escape, Attack, Guard, and Item greyed out (For this tutorial fight only)

That's what I'm trying to go for. Unfortunately, Seal Skill doesn't work on the Attack command's attack. Kind of sucks.
>>
>>137304514
The setting sounds good. ...I... guess I don't have anything in particular to comment on, sorry. But it seems like a good base to build lewds on.

The mechanics will depend on how exactly you want them to work, but you should be able to manage that with little to no scripting. If you just want the mage to gain MP from the party's actions during battle, that should be easy. Balance might be tricky, since you'd need to make sure neither energy-building or regular actions tend to overshadow the other, but not impossible.

>>137302514
I say side view if you have the time and skill for it.

I'm thinking this area is gonna either have no enemies, or have enemies but not use the battle music and all they do in battle is say "turn back now" or something like that. Which one should I use?
>>
>>137313327
Or, just have the battles completely silent, and also have enemies say "Turn back". Cannon fodder enemies, even; 1hp, no resistances, they just die as you sneeze on them.

Not sure about anyone else, but ultra frail enemies like that would give me the heebie jeebies.

As it turns out, her mother has Munchausens By Proxy syndrome and has been poisoning her. If you collect and deliver all but the last bear before the final dungeon opens (you can't get the last bear until that point) and then get the last one and try and take it to her, you'll find that she's died. But you can then find a series of clues leading to her mother poisoning her, and her mother will be arrested. Then you will take the last bear to her grave and you can find the last reward there. If you don't deliver all the other bears before then, you never find out what caused her to die and all her remaining rewards are lost forever.

In my unending quest to enhance the artwork in my game, I come to you all with another remake for my tree.

I wasn't going to update my tree again because the previous efforts just didn't work, but while I was making an unrelated sprite, I noticed the pattern on it looked very leafy. I realized that this might be a good way to redesign my tree to look more leafy. Despite not really wanting to work on trees again, I decided to give the tree thing another try anyways and copy-pasted the leafy pattern all over it. I retained the shading pattern from the original tree as well. I added some lines to the trunk too, but I think it could be done better.

Give me your honest opinions, as always. How does the new version look?

Noise filter?

Judging from the last few things you've shown, everything is on a small scale. You don't want to try cramming a million details in something so small. Your tree reminded me of Kirby's Dream Land, so I'm gonna base my suggestion off of that.

Keep it like the left, but take the trunk from right. Up the contrast on the green so that the shadows stand out a bit more, and add a VERY simple pattern to the leaves (like an apple hanging off). Make a few alternate trees where the details are in different places, and populate the world with different trees.

Kind of like pic related.

Does your game have choices, or situations, where no matter what the player chooses, they still technically don't win? Is it a good design choice to have these kinds of choices/situations in the game?
>>
>>137375829
It's good only when you've built up the bad guy as absurdly strong. If you're rocking the Greatsword of the Gods and Zeus' Loincloth, yet a common slime puts you in a dire situation, that's bad. I've got a situation like that though;

>Bad guy was guiding you the entire game, specifically to train you to be his tool
>He knows how you fight, so he's built his resistances to your abilities
>Supposed to lose the fight
>Best friend sacrifices themselves to let you escape, final boss is pissed
>Learn a new way to fight later, final boss is finally capable of losing
>>
>>137376209
>bad guy
In my situation, the character in question is very passive, even friendly. I'm still trying to finish this up, just in terms of an idea, but it's something like this.
>Find a creature that lives in the sewers under the city
>MC starts talking to it
>It tells the MC that it used to have a friend, but hasn't seen in them in a while
>Asks MC to go look around town to see whether or not MC can find her
>MC walks around town, asking for someone with a specific name and describing looks
>At one point, a character tells that that sounds awfully a lot like her grandma, when she was still a child
>MC asks whether or not she used to have a weird looking friend
>Character tells that she used to say that she had a friend a weird looking one, but an awfully kind one
>MC asks about said grandma
>She had passed away many years ago
>MC realizes that creature living below, hasn't seen the girl in decades and doesn't even know she's already passed away
>MC's choices, upon returning back, is either to tell everything how it is or try and lie it out somehow, to give the creature some false hope
This is kind of the general gist of what I was planning on adding.

Sometimes I forget that not everyone is going to play this on a 32" screen (I plug my laptop into my TV and I never use the laptop screen). I'm always able to see the details nice and large on my TV screen, but when I switch it to my 14" laptop screen, they are pretty bad. As for the apple thing, fruit doesn't grow from trees in this world (fruit plays an important role in my game). I'll try to think of something else though, if I can.

I did make the unshaded part of the tree brighter. Which of the two looks better with the two grass patterns I have?

I really should focus less on trying to put excessive details on small things. As always, thanks for your opinion :)

Before I even bother spriting a dozen costumes for multiple characters, how easy is it in MV to make it so that wearing an item changes a sprite, and removing it returns the sprite to normal?

I know in VX Ace there was a simple script, but I don't think I saw one for MV.
>>
>>137385359

Depends on what you want.
You can make it so that equipping an item changes a sprite, but combinations are a lot more complicated.
>>
>>137385878
Yeah, just one sprite.

>Equip Bunnysuit
>Player's sprite shows a full bunnysuit
>Remove Bunnysuit
>Player returns to original sprite

That's all. Not going for "Show this hat, this chest, and this thing", just a full sprite change when equipping one item.

>>137379262
Since you and the other person mentioned it, I had no idea what noise filter was before you mentioned it. You're right, though. I have to get my head out of thinking noise filter is detail, apparently.

>>
>>137398819
Give your players the benefit of the doubt. As long as the story makes sense, they'll buy it. Letting them ask frivolous questions wastes time.

>King: "My princess has been captured by the Dark Lord Britbongadingdong! You must save her!"

>The Player:

"Why?"

"How did he sneak into this castle?"

"You're kind of a jerk. Are you sure you didn't deserve it?"

"Why am I the only one who can save her?"

"What's she look like?"

>"Okay."

See how easy that is? Stop overthinking it. They'll still buy into the story.
>>
>>137391162
I don't think it's that limited. I have almost no scripting knowledge and with events alone I've managed to make timed hits, a dodging system, a completely customized shop with pictures and a new inventory system. Remember, you're only limited by your own creativity.

I was going to make progress, but then my family wanted to watch a movie and I felt obligated to join them. In any case, I finished what I was in the middle of when they asked. I made baby rocks for more scenery and turned them all brown to match the rocky walls. I might remove the freckles from the rocks to match the walls, or I might freckle up the walls to match the rocks. Probably the former, but I'll have to think about it for awhile.

Don't worry too much about it, I say. As long as what's going on and the basics of why are clear to the player - or, if they're not supposed to be, that they're a mystery - the details aren't as important. Trying to explain everything will just drag down the plot.

From what I've seen, people who will pick apart your story for flaws either didn't like it in the first place or just do it for fun. Very few people will notice or care on their first playthrough, as long as there aren't any gaping holes.

So I have a question. When I exported my games in VX Ace, I usually have the option to encrypt data and include RTP. In MV, however, I only have platform options.

So is the RTP no longer included in "deployed" projects anymore or what? Will others be able to play the game?

Also, the files aren't encrypted anymore. What gives?
>>

I haven't really used MV, but I think there's no such thing as an RTP anymore. Games are expected to include all the assets they use, whatever the source.

I dunno about encryption.

Both gone because of html5 game feature. RTP was kind of needing to be gone, since worthwhile games use none or little of it, and it could be a needless hassle for distribution. Harddrive space and bandwidth are higher now, there's little reason to justify telling users to go download/install it, or setting up an installer to account for it.
Encryption's gone because html5/javascript. It was false security anyway. If you want that, use a program that wraps it up in an executable, like web2exe.

Am I missing something or MV's performance is hot garbage?

I put like 5~7 pictures on screen and the framerate goes down from 60 to like 15~20, it's retarded. Feels just like the kind of problem I had back in 2k3, I thought we were over this

Performance seems to vary wildly depending on who's using it, and having a better computer doesn't necessarily mean it'll work better. Mine is pretty old, but I've only noticed minor lag.

I like it. The style is super charming, the music is fun and the dialogue is entertaining enough. Paul doesn't really give anything even if you beat him multiple times, does he? I only beat him once. Ah, right. Nonetheless, I did enjoy it. Great style and nice enough pacing. All the complaints I can think of are there because it's a demo (assume), such as low enemy variety, few skills, linear progression.

For some reason looking at this makes me want to make a small RPG where you can go to the big bad guy at the start, and the entire game is doing stuff to get stronger until you can beat the final boss.
>>
>>137490106
The map you're looking at belongs to a game where you technically only have to go through 3 out of 9 "dungeons" before you can go face the final boss. You'll get stomped long before that, but, hey, technically you could!
>>
>>137490649

I would make it so that you can go to the bad guy's fortress from the very start.

I might actually make that. It's probably better to finish a smaller game before finishing the bigger one I've been working on..

I'm trying to go for a pokemon approach with damage values, but I'm not sure what sort of formula I need.

>Spell does static Fire damage (10 damage, for example)
>Enemy 1 is weak to fire (150% taken)
>Enemy 2 is neutral to fire (100% taken)

What sort of formula would I need for this? My 150% enemy takes 10 damage from the fire spell, but I want it to take an extra 50% damage.
>>
>>137524159
You wouldn't need a formula at all. Just make the skill do 10 damage and then give the enemy a 150% fire element rate.
>>
>>137526482
As I said, the enemy that has the 150% fire element rate only takes 10 damage from the fire spell, where it should be taking 15.

If I made a game with RPGM2003 using 100% vanilla assets and tried to sell it for like 5 bucks, would I get immediate and unconditional hate for it, or would people give it a shot?
This is assuming it's actually well-made and well-written, and obviously I'd stick a "Made using only vanilla assets" thing on it or something so people don't feel cheated.
>>
>>137528997
Dont sweat it, but seriously thanks a lot.
>>
>>137529989
If it's good, you can possibly get some help from people who enjoy it. Otherwise, you really have to focus on showing people that the writing and quality more than make up for the RTP.
>>
>>137531185
>Otherwise, you really have to focus on showing people that the writing and quality more than make up for the RTP.
I assumed as much, I just didn't know if people would ignore it from the outset on principal due to vanilla resources or actually give it a chance.

Hell I'm not even sure if you can still release commercial games using 2K3 RTP legally, but I assumed so.

I just don't have the time in my life to actually work on original assets for a game in one of the later RPGMs, and can't learn GML to save my life, so making a game with built-in stuff is all I can really find time for, and 2K3 is the only one that's nostalgic and enjoyable enough for me to consider doing that.
>>
>>137466829
The bit in the top left of the map is the last one in the game, right?
Anyway, I enjoyed it. Will be more fun when there's a bit more to the battles than there are now, but as early game stuff it's fine.
Regarding the campfire: a bestiary? A way to get new skills? If a lot of characters end up being thrown into this, maybe a way to switch them out?

You're more likely to get ignored than hated for it, I think. RTP games have trouble standing out even when they're free.

Rock-a-billy is a strong attack that misses 50% of the time. Same thing with Rocky Mountain. And I probably should change that escape into a 100% success rate.

The river is just for show so far. You'll need to cross it to go to other areas. The arrow was just a clever way to say, HEY, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO GO HERE AT SOME POINT, you know?

Pretty good. I love the art and style you have going with it. Though what I originally had in mind was that you basically just had to beat the 4 guardian bosses and then the final boss in order to beat the game, which meant that you'd just have to grind on normal enemies (via the gate on the left) until you were strong enough to beat the next boss.

I'm not talking about hidden bosses or anything, i'm talking about "beat the game using only one weapon while not healing once and performing Oh Come All Ye Faithful on a rusty harmonica you only find 5% of the time in one area while you tilt the cartridge" easter eggs.

Yeah, THAT kind of cool hidden shit.

>>137563581
So I got these two party members right. We'll just call them Red and Blue for the sake of this example.

Red joins your party for a short period but is secretly the main antagonist.

Blue is your resident Blue Mage (copies enemy skills) and she's also a spy, but she eventually joins your party for good.

While Red is in your party, Blue turns traitor and leaves the party and you have to fight against her.

However if you wait for 20+ (haven't figured out exactly how many) turns to pass, Blue will use her skill-stealing move on Red in your party and learn a new skill. This will be reflected when Blue rejoins your party shortly after that and now has Red's skill.

This foreshadows that Red is the villain long before it happens and the only other way to get Blue to draw that skill from Red is during the final boss fight.
>>
>>137563581
I've got something that you can miss during the tutorial.

>Dark patch of grass right at the start, doesn't blend with the rest of the grass
>Inspect to find a seed
>Take seed with you to a pot, plant seed
>Find Fertilizer (interactable object in a house, only if you've found and planted the seed)
>Find a watering can
>Tend to the plant every time the game returns you to the house you planted it in (This happens every time a story chapter is completed)
>If you've done this from the start, you find out that you grew a Mandragora
>Fight it (easier than tutorial stage), and it joins your party
>If you beat the game with the Mandragora as an active party member, it learns to speak and thanks you for showing it that there is more to life than a potted plant's life.
>If you take it to a kitchen, you can activate any cutting board to cut the Mandragora into an edible item that teaches one party member of your choice how to scream like a Mandragora (Stuns the enemy for one turn, works on bosses)
>Parallel event changes their sprite to look like it's become plant-like (vines in the hair, leaves over ears, etc)
>Post final boss, if you have a party member that ate the mandragora, they reference themselves as the one to rule the world in the body of a powerful human, and instakills the rest of your party. (Alternate ending, ends showing the Mandragora party member turning others into plants)

Not the most imaginative, but it's something.

I'm using boscaceoil to make music, and I'm running into an issue; the tracks don't loop. I made a short 4-second loop for a fast-paced battle, and it loops perfectly on the site, but when I save it as a wav, it doesn't loop correctly. It just has some odd pause at the end.

How do you make it so that it loops correctly?

WAV files are raw and don't have loop data in them.

Try this.
>>
>>137578006
If it's just a 4 sec wav file, then it should loop just fine as long as rpg maker has no delay before restarting the song
Wav is bad long term though, huge file sizes for anything long
There's a plugin that lets you specify loop points in songs regardless of file format
But .ogg is usually the way to go, yeah.

Create a variable, for this example let's call it 'inn gold'. At the start of the inn event, use "Control Variables" then select 'inn gold' then use set and then Game Data "Actor (X) Level/HP". Afterwards, keep toying with the control variable mathematical functions to make a sort of formula for the inn gold cost. Then, when deducing the cost for inn usage, just make it use the variable instead of a flat amount.

>Inns
The Player's room is the only "inn" setting in my game, and when used, fully heals you. You can only visit this bed at the beginning and end of chapters, as the middle points of each chapter tend to take place in a location until a goal is met. I even have bonus dialogue options when the player tried to use the bed with anyone else in their party, such as;
>1 party member: "Do we really need to share a bed?"
>2 party members: "That's a bit cramped, isn't it?"
>3 party members: "Well this is a first for me."
Of course, each party member has actual dialogue, but still.

The bed fully restores health and mp, regardless of level. Simplicity is best.

>Potions:
My game doesn't have extremely high health values, but there's a few healing items.
>Fruit (various fruits you find): "A fresh (fruit). Heals 5% hp"
>Steak: "A fresh and delicious steak. Heals 10% hp"
>Red Potion: "Tastes like strawberry. Heals 20% hp"
>Purple Potion: "Tastes like grape. Heals 50% hp."
>Manga Meat: "The holy grail of meats. Heals 100% hp."
Manga meat is pic related.

As for MP restoring potions, it's all milk.
>Bottle of milk: "Delicious cow milk. Restores 20% mp."
>Jug of milk: "That's a lot of milk. Restores 50% mp."
>Dragon Milk. "Dragons produce milk? Restores 100% mp."

No, the last one isn't a lewd thing.

>That´s lewd anon
Well, I am trying to make a lewd game.
>care to share up some tips on how you managed to do that
It's a bit convoluted and I still haven't fully finished everything, but the gist of it would be that I have 2 variables, state and pose, and one array for clothing. Character states change the facial expression, character pose changes poses. The drawing process itself happens in scene_map.
Basically, whenever I change clothes, I change the clothing array. In scene_map it redraws the clothing upon exiting the menu, I still need to finish that so, that I can change clothing on the fly, so that enemies can undress her, but the idea is that depending on the pose, you change and redraw clothes on top of the base body.
Sorry, I'm very bad at explaining things.

>>137623887
It´s fine i think i get what you mean. And best of luck with your game, looking forward to it.

How would you feel if you were playing an RPG and had gotten about halfway through the game, when suddenly the main character gets killed off and is immediately replaced by a new main character with identical abilities?

Keep in mind this wouldn't be completely random. There would be buildup and the replacement, new main character would be someone who has been around for most of the game and whom you are already familiar with. It's just that this moment would not only kill off the person who you THOUGHT was most important in the game, but also expose this new main character as having been the key player the entire time, right under everyone's noses.

I need honest opinions about this here.

Well yeah, I code a bit, so I'm trying to make my game a bit more interesting, from a gameplay point of view, by changing existing and adding new mechanics to RPGM.
>not that I could make that much ar
I can't really draw much myself, I've been drawing for a bit less than 2 years now, I think. So I'm not even really sure if I can pull off all the art for my own game, but I'm hoping on it. Just need to practice more, I guess.
>I was wondering if there was an easy way to handle it with events. I know you can check if a character has a certain item equipped, but as far as I know, not if the slot is empty.
Honestly, not a clue. I haven't really looked into eventing much, maybe you can do that with eventing, but I'm almost done scripting that mechanic anyways, so I'll just leave it as is.

So, I've been thinking on how to make Golden Sun style puzzles, where you can use certain abilities in the field to affect the environment. The best way I've come up with to handle it would be to create an event on the player's space, move it in the direction they're facing, and have every possible effect point check if it's overlapping the right kind of event, activating if so.

Say, you'd give the player a Fire spell that can burn down bushes, then have every burnable bush be an event. When the player uses Fire outside of battle, it calls a common event that creates/moves a Fire event on space in front of them, causing any bush events on that space to change to their burned state and become passable.

I don't know exactly how you'd do this, though. Is it even possible without scripts? Is there a better way?

VX Ace question here.

So I'm walking around and testing all my events to make sure they're working as intended when I notice I'm able to do pic related, which is walk from the lower level of the forest to the higher level.

I know the reason this is happening. The wall of the higher ground, part of tileset A5, has the proper 4-directional prevention marks to stop you from climbing the wall magically, and the flowers have full 4-directional movement onto it. Apparently, the flower's 4-directional movement overwrites the cliff's.

Is there any way to fix this, or should I just move all scenery away from the wall sides and move on?

I always felt like replacing dead characters with mechanically identical characters kind of cheapens it, but it might be okay if there's a reason and/or it's the kind of game where you can customize your characters and invest time in learning and improving skills.

I'm fine with the idea of losing the main character halfway through, though. Death and related plot twists can be good and memorable parts of a story if handled well, even (especially?) if it hurts.

>Figure out the main cast, villain, and setting
>Figure out the story's beginning and ending
>Work on assets for the main cast and villain. Some tiles too
>Work on battle stuff for low levels. Work on game for the first few levels' worth of play
>Test test test etc
>Once I have the battle stuff set up just right so that it's JUST tough enough to make you worry, but not impossible to defeat when a few levels under, I move on to the next set of enemies
>Build the world as I build the fights

Right now, I'm focusing solely on the intro and first boss, which is literally just five minutes into the game. The main party is two people (Player + healer), and the enemy is strong enough to make you run out of mp while spamming heals. The enemy CAN crit you, but you can't crit them (explained as you being new to the fighting scene, and enemy being a seasoned veteran), and you win by the end with little to no mp left.

I've got it set up just how I want it, as I've done about 50 test fights, each having varying amounts of crits against me, and I've won every time without one party member dying, but both came REALLY fucking close half the time.

I want all of my fights, even cannon fodder enemies, to feel like this when you're at the appropriate levels (between 0 and 3 levels below the target)

I want a challenge, but nothing impossible. I want it easy enough for casual players to be able to progress, but enjoyable enough for people who want to sweat. Can't just run from every enemy and only fight bosses though. That's too easy.
>>
>>137642316
I just do whatever I feel like I'm in the mood for. I think general assets and scripts should be the first thing you put in place so you can get a feel for your game but I'm guilty of just throwing things in and and removing them if I'm not feeling it.

I feel like if you just go with the flow and let your emotions guide you you're going to make a more fun game than if you plan everything out in a specific order. If you're feeling upset then you should go make a sad scene and if you're not feeling any particular way then work on some boring database stuff.

With that being said I usually do a lot of worldbuilding before starting anything. I already know enough about the characters and the world enough to drop whatever scene I'm currently working on and work on a different one. It's not the best way to work if you want an organized project but I think it makes for a more charming game.
>>
>>137642316
I'll work on TECHNOLOGY getting plugins then script, then maps then writing events. Music, writing and hopefully gameplay will be the only original thing, probably.

Honestly mine's the polar opposite of organized. It'll go something like this
>Have idea for GAME
>Spend an hour thinking up name for GAME.
>Start on the intro
>Oh hey i need to edit the CHARACTER A's sprites from the default here
>edit CHARACTER A
>Go back to the intro
>Continue working on intro until obligatory tutorial fight scene
>have to set up troops and enemies
>think "Oh hey it would be cool if they dropped WEAPON/ITEM"
>Design weapon/item
>edit class to use weapon/item
>Continue with intro into town
>Design the town & interiors
>Need to come up with content to fill it
>think "Oh hey, this building over here isn't doing anything, why not use it to recruit CHARACTER B?"
>Set up CHARACTER B's sheet
>Think "now If i were CHARACTER B, what would I want CHARACTER A to do for me to prove i should travel with them?"
>Begin working on DUNGEON
>Dungeon feels empty
>Design more TROOPS, and WEAPON/ITEM to populate dungeon
>Grow bored
>Forget project
>Months later, repeat.
>>
>>137646616
Honestly, if i were to cut & paste all the intro sequences, parties, etc i've done I'd have a 24+ hour long game. It wouldn't make much sense, but it'd have length.
>>
Ok, I'm having trouble figuring out how I need the opening to go down. I don't plan on TOO much change but so far, it goes like this:
-introduces the planet in one image and text.
-explains the setting, underground, and the fact that the society exists in caves.
-explains that traveling between them is dangerous and so the main character's group exists to help people.
-this is shown as something the main character is dreaming about and is fairly light hearted. Then, the mc wakes up and the story begins.

However, one MAJOR plot point is that people are disappearing, permanently, and no one knows why/how, but it happens to nearly everyone's family. Most of this world's inhabitants, unless sheltered, know people who have disappeared or have family who have. However I don't know if I want that to be introduced in the intro cutscene, or for it to be mentioned in small NPC and environment text until it's addressed directly a bit more than halfway through the first act. I'm not sure if the 'hook' is there without that knowledge immediately, but adding it may make the tone of the intro different, as it's mostly lighthearted now.

Any ideas as to how to deal with this?
>>
>>137646914
Go Deus Ex nigga. You can always add parody stuff later.
>>
>>137647159
Forgive me for being a retard but I don't know much about Deus Ex or how parody plays in here. What do you mean by that?
>>
In MV, is there a way to make my actor disappear in side view, appear on the enemy (or next to them), then do an attack?

And more importantly, is there an easier way to arrange enemy battlers in the troops section? Shit's so disorganized.
>>
I'm feeling stupid; I can't make my actor's sprite change when equipping an item.

I've got the following common event;
>If Actor has equipped Armor
>*Control Switches : #0001 Armor on = ON
>*Change Actor Images: Actor, None, Overworld02, Battle02
>*
>Else:
>*Control Switches : #0001 Armor on = OFF
>*Change Actor Images: Actor, None, Overworld01, Battle01
>*
>End

The common event is running parallel to the "#0001 Armor on" switch. Everything in google that leads to MV shows this, but the sprites don't change. Did I do something wrong?
>>
>>137647746
Add some grim conspiracy theories around a la Deus Ex and then make it all blow as you insert the parody part.
People may get pissed tho.

For the intro? I'm still sorta confused. I have my plot planned out, just not sure how the intro cutscene should go. You're saying I should introduce the disappearances from the start? And build up to it later? Or that I should mention something about it and start working towards it?

Would you all play an RPG that uses the smallest map size for each map, kind of like Link's Awakening-style mapping? I want to make an RPG, but I feel like I'd do better making games with the smallest map size possible. I'd just make hundreds of those kinds of maps and connect them all together seamlessly. You play as a dark witch trying to restore her master's demonic castle while he is outside conquering the human kingdoms. You'll find plenty of puzzles and secret areas. Game focuses mainly on RP, puzzles and exploration, but I may add a lot of VN elements because why not. Secondary characters are a cocky demon bard manlet, a silent dark knight merc and a legendary lich who happens to be a fraud. There may be no combat at all, but there's stealth. I started literally yesterday

Could be good with some more work on it then! I'd expand on the intro just slightly, maybe at least have him crush an enemy as he lands and instantly level up or at least complain about getting blood on his boots.

Only other suggestions I can throw out are potentially changing to a realtime battle system, or customizing the heck out of the normal one, at LEAST the messages to be more GORGOTH-themed, e.g;

>Sounds good when "DIE, YOU RECYCLED SPRITE", breaking the fourth wall a bit, angry, all caps
>In battle, no commentary, no caps, no thematic attacks, just "Gorgoth attacks"
>not "GORGOTH CHARGES IN AND UPPERCUTS (the) [Target name]" or "GORGOTH JUMPS UP HIGH, LANDING ON [Target] CRUSHINGLY"
>nor mid-battle dialogue, especially vs a Dark Gorgoth, that should be dialogue heavy with lots of frustration since dark gorgoth would be just as stubborn and thick as him

I know, it's just a fun little project you did, I just wanted to throw some thoughts out if you ever do start up the side project.
>>
>>137682159
You honestly caught the spirit of what I had already done.

>Gorgoth tends to speak in third person, or breaks the 4th wall
His design was a self-centered, egotistical asshole. Think Wario, but doesn't care about money.
>No commentary in battle
Gorgoth speaks with his fists in battle. His big fists.
>Fancy names for moves
That's reserved for enemies. Gorgoth doesn't need fancy names for his fists, after all.
>No mid-battle dialogue
I MAY have one or two at some point, but otherwise yes; that ain't going to be a common thing.
>Dark Gorgoth
Honestly, he was just a placeholder enemy. I got lazy and just recolored Gorgoth for that to test the stats on the weapon.

Also, the intro was entirely cut from that. It was originally some RTP nonsense that went something like this;

>Gorgoth feasting on a massive banquet by himself
>Not a servant in sight
>Suddenly, a maid comes up, says some people defaced one of his (many) solid gold statues
>"WHAT?"
>The maid cowers in fear, and says which statue (among the several thousand) it was
>"I'LL TEAR THAT BASTARD APART!"
>Gorgoth throws the maid out the window, leaves the castle through the wall (Not the window or door, but shatters the wall)
>Cue the webm from earlier

I didn't include it because it was all RTP, and I don't like showing my work with RTP mixed in. Feels lazy.

I may have gone off on a rant, but god damn I'm interested in starting up Gorgoth's game again.
>>
>>137683183
>Gorgoth speaks with his fists in battle. His big fists.
Touché, though the text reflecting at least that simple and lethal fact would make it better on the player's end

>that intro
Oh man you gotta keep that for the intro. Though, would Gold matter to Gorgoth? Maybe a tougher metal or stone to embody his strength?

>GORGOTH CARES NOT FOR YOUR SOFT YELLOW METALS! GORGOTH ONLY USES THE HARDEST OF METALS, DIAMONDS!
or something along those lines

>I may have gone off on a rant, but god damn I'm interested in starting up Gorgoth's game again.
Glad I could help, I'd love to see it come to at least some fruition! Wish there was a better way to keep track of it than these threads though.
>>
Aww yea. Had a part of my game that was a bit tedious, but managed to make it more interesting by throwing some character quips in to get the player used to the newest party member. I'm pretty happy with that.
>>
>>137683542
I'll make sure his fists are well-feared by his "loyal" citizens.

Just keep the names as "Left Hand" and "Right Hand".

The door animations work the same.
Although I wasn't looking that closely to the Mill sheet,
The quick events for doors doesn't rotate the directions clockwise, but rather goes down, left, right, up.

I suppose it's up to the artist's preference.

2003 can still make RPGs, but the more advanced features will be out of reach.

If you want SIMPLE, use a console RPGM (PS1, DS, etc.) Custom assets have to made by hand, scripts are nonexistant, but if you've used a controller all your life making a game is super intuitive.

Just worry about making aproject for now. If 2003 appeals to you, then don't worry about extra bells and whistles you have no clue how to use

Since I can't make small webms anymore, here's Gorgoth's game so far. Just the tutorial, but still. So much placeholder shit, but it's a work in progress obviously.

>>137746418
Didn't know about that site, thanks.
>>
>>137747960
No problemo, and enjoying it! looking forward for more Gorgoth
>>
>>137747960
The visual mess still bothering me a little, but it's WAY better than the last throne room. Do you have plans to draw the enemies or will you use RTP? Also, have you consider lowering the game's window size?

>>137720108
>>137720243
Thank you, guys. It really means a lot, since I have plans to sell it and I'm spending about 6 hours/day with this project.
>>
>>137749675
You can change the window size? How? I'm using MV.

As for the art, I'm doing ALL of the art. I don't believe in using RTP unless it's absolutely necessary.
>>
>>137750662
Nice! I appreciate that. Your game seems to have a strong identity, RTP could spoil its "spirit".

Also, plugin parameters for Yanfly's Core Engine. You could use another widescreen resolution.
>>
>>137750958
Alright, I'll take a look into that.

Glad Gorgoth has a strong identity. I didn't think "Asshole king who yells" was very strong, but I'm glad I was wrong.
>>
>>137751491
It reminds me of Wario, and that's a good thing
>>
>>137633259
I think you can make the flowers an event and change the passability there
>>
Bump, we're almost there
>>
>tell classmate about my game
>she asks what engine
>tell her RPGMaker
>she makes a sour face and rolls her eyes

Fuck you too lady, I'm going to work twice as hard today because of that
>>
RPG Maker MV question here

Do you animate enemies the same way you animate actors? 9x6 sprite sheet?
>>
>>137757294
You need a plugin to do that, unless you mean the overworld sheet.

Otherwise yes.
>>
>>137757458
Sorry I meant battlers yes. I see I'll need a plugin.
>>
>>137757784
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aP7k9uUFL8 this shall help you
>>
>>137757784
>>137757956
In my opinion, this plugin is absolutely mandatory if you do side view battlers. Why the fuck is that not just a built-in feature?
>>
>>137756727
It's always shit like this that motivates me to work harder, strangely enough
>>
Almost bump limit. Post whatever you want included in the OP now or forever hold your piece.
>>
>>137759204
Preferably some kind of links to music guides. Like, an introduction to understanding notes and shit. Music is the hardest part of making the game, other than making the game.
