running around as chicken trying to find the weapon chest and then suddenly big bandit when i did
shot some grenades at him and reflected some bullets then out of nowhere everything turned blue and i was underwater

The Horror Beam is best used after you reach level Ultra. Alternatively, when you have its Thronebutt and you're in a pinch.

By maximizing the possible difficulty via visiting all of the extra stages (Pizza Sewers, both Crown Vaults), you increase the number of enemies on each stage, thus increasing the number of rads dropped/collected, thus increasing the amount of time you can use the Horror Beam. The Cursed Caves are also good for rad gain, but they're hell if you're not prepared. Keep that in mind.

Trust me when I say nearly everyone in this general has done this at least once if not several times. If anything, you need to take it up a notch and point-blank your grenade launcher at a stationary prop you forgot existed.

I'd personally recommend avoiding explosive weapons as a beginner (unless you can get Boiling Veins) because those weapons are honestly more dangerous to you than they are to the enemy, but if that's your thing then go for it.

If I had to take a wild guess? JW made it so that BRAAAPing does the ammo reduction first, but returns it afterwards if you don't have enough. Because Ultra Weapons do a check for rads before the ammo reduction, it doesn't reduce any ammo, but still returns what would have been spent. I know this sounds fucking retarded, but you gotta understand: this is the same guy that made maggots shot from jungle flies reduce your killcount instead of simply not factoring them in to the equation.

As a confirmation of this, I tested it out with all the Ultra weapons. I don't honestly have any reason to believe what I hypothesize is wrong.

Also, in case you're wondering about the infinite ammo, it's because it only does checks on stuff like health and ammo when you pick it up, or through means such as Bloodlust, Lucky Shot, Steroids' Thronebutt, etc. This is much more efficient than doing it all the time, but it's less idiot proof.
