Raids, depending on who you're running with, can take about an hour if you're doing King's Fall. Vault of Glass and Crota's End are stuck to Year 1 values, so there won't be much need for you to do those except for a certain quest.
In normal PvP, your light level doesn't matter, as everything is normalized. The only events where power matters is Iron Banner (once a month) and Trials of Osiris (every weekend)
Just play at your own pace. We won't be getting new content until April 12. That gives you plenty of time to get to around 290-300

Destiny as a shooter, for me, has incredibly satisfying gameplay. It does what I want it to, but explicitly as a shooter. In fact, it's the first shooter in a while that I've actually enjoyed.
As for the story itself, it's actually pretty interesting with lots of lore. The problem is the story-telling. I feel like Bungie went for a Dark Souls approach with very hidden and indirect lore, but botched it entirely by not including it in the main game. The characters I've come to love (like Toland the Shattered) are actually not present in the game at all, which is incredibly frustrating.
Overall I'd recommend it for the addicting gameplay. The story is decent, but really hard to access, so that may or may not be a dealbreaker for you.

I actually like the detached storytelling though. I quote enjoy the fact that I can read the lore at my leisure while I'm on the khazi or whatevs, and I don't have to stop playing for 15 minutes while impress or someone explains what is a vex in a cutscene.

I quite like PoE, it'sa decent way to kill 20 minutes and you might get a exotic. As a y2 player, I've never even done the harder ones with skolaa an shit, do something that gets people interested in them again it's cool with me.
Update rewards to y2 light, put in matchmaking for all areas and that would be an alright part of the package. A new strike, New exotics, new questline and I think that would be a satisfactory medium content update.

I came into this thread the other day about starting to play this game on xbone. I decided to roll a warlock and have been having some good fun so far. I'm at level 12 right now and have been trying out all the different weapons.
Is there a certain weapon class that compliments a warlock's abilities well? I'm not sure which subclass I'd go though. Just as long as I get to use space magic.

The problem is, most don't do the other quest and quest trees, which offer exotics at the end of them.
Don't be fooled, check the numbers, less than 40% of the active population have even beaten the raid. I doubt those have even done the other quests.
You just have a bunch of people who want to use three of coins to get free exotics, get piggybacked through raids, and carried in IB where they just quit in the middle of matches otherwise. It's a huge amount. There are people who legit think getting strange coins and legendary marks is hard. People tend to forget that the majority who play these games just want free loot and then they quickly get out.

And what do the exotic quest lines really offer in content? They give you the same story missions just with a harder difficulty. a strike with a harder difficulty. They have you dick around in crucible and wait a week for armsday or weekly reset.
3oC don't award exotics from the exotic quest lines and are the easiest way to bring up your legendaries to 310. I'd rather farm Champions or this week's tier 3 boss than all that other bullshit.
