Plus all those teleports make him hard to control.

Just out of interest, do any pokes have a guaranteed followup to their counter?

The only attack I can true combo it into with chandelure is burst, strong forward is the next best but my opponents keep jumping out before it can hit.

Also PSA make sure you turn freeze on in free training, it shows how long the enemy stays in hitstun so you can see if your combos have any escapeable windows.

I mean I like the fact that there's secret characters, but jesus christ I've been going through this for ages. I just got to the part where you start fighting the trainers on different parts of the map after the Red League and they're the first CPUs that have offered any challenge whatsoever.

Is it just me or are Gardevoir's field phase projectiles a bit underwhelming? She seems to sort of lose trades with other zoning characters, and fast characters can just dodge them. Once she's in duel phase it feels like she gets a lot stronger.

I'm trying to give everyone a fair shot, so I'm leveling each Pokemon up to 10 before I move on to the next one.

Currently leveling Machamp now, who I really like a lot. Haven't touched Braixen, Mewtwo, Chandelure, Suicune, Weavile, Charizard, Garchomp, or Shadow Mewtwo yet.

It's made the story mode a bit more bearable because every 10 or so battles I get to try a new character.

I like to use reshiram/cresselia on my chandelure
Chandelure for the first round usually makes sure i have enough burst for the second round no matter what
suppoer bonus lets me max reshiram next round and reshiram is good for getting people away from you in duel phase if you need to

The only thing that can be universally cancelled is the chargeable counter attack.

Just like most fighting games, some attacks are cancellable and some are not, and only into certain moves or maybe even only in specific situations.

We won't know what every cancellable move is or what they can be cancelled into until some autist rips the game apart.

As far as I can tell, you just can't fucking win round 2. You have to win round 1, you lose round 2, then round 3 is where it counts.

I really don't have any advice other than be careful. Try to block his burst attacks, and don't even bother trying to grab him. Grabs like never work during that fight.

Just did it. It's pretty heavily scripted, the AI was very clearly set to dial down on its difficulty if you lost a couple times.

That first round becomes an absolute cakewalk with him just standing around and taking everything you throw at him, never attacking himself

The second round is just him with beefed up defence and blocking, his Burst attack is completely unavoidable and is basically just supposed to kill you or at least get your HP down to shit, so you fail that round

Round 3 gives infinite Synergy so it's a piece of piss, supposed to be "cinematic" I guess

Pretty disappointing. I was hoping for a decent AI fight.

Machamp was one of the first characters I tried and I thought he's pretty easy to use.

He hits hard and has good defense, so you can get away with making some mistakes.
